I'm actually going to be running sessions of both Space Hulk and BFG this weekend. Most of my gaming group has played Hulk before, but years ago, and I'm the only one who currently owns a full copy of it. BFG is something that I think I'm the only one of the bunch to have played, so that'll be an introductory session to show them what I still think is GW's best-written game.

On the OOP front, I did just buy a couple of months ago GW's ancient Judge Dredd-themed game Block Mania, but I haven't played it yet.

I have played several SG, but they're very different.

I'd recommend BFG and Epic - both are great systems and lots of fun.

Necromunda and Mordheim are OK as-is, but very problematic when you get outside of the basic rulebook. Add-on's like Ratskins and Beastmen really unbalance things.

I've only played Blood Bowl. Guess I'll have to sit over there with the uncool kids. It wasn't even proper Blood Bowl, either; only later did I learn that, for instance, it is not the case that Jordell Freshbreeze can never fumble. It's thanks to Blood Bowl that I always make sure to learn rules firsthand now.

Do you think they just weren't playtested as much before release? What would bring them more into line with the relative strength of the other warbands?

You can playtest the poop out of a game and still get it wrong, by not structuring your tests to cover all the important cases. Still, there have been some GW games (mostly early ones) that had obvious, major flaws that I picked up in 10 minutes play.

I don't think they do stuff like that so much these days, though the recent Eldar Holo-field ruckus indicates a lack of capability in the maths department.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

The basic rulebook is fairly sound, particularly Necroumunda - all of the basic gangs are essentially the same, varying only in upgrade paths.

Mordheim is more ambitious, which opens the door to more imbalances.

I don't think GW did too much playtesting with Outlanders or Town Cryer additions. If it were up to me, I'd simply outlaw Ratskins and Beastmen.

I think so. While I agree that Skaven and Possessed are tough, T4 Ungors are extremely unfair.

i have a warmaster army (undead) and a mordheim game (CoC) but never use them. i have bloodbowl orcs i use occasionally. i have 10,000 points of epic eldar, painted, that i use once every few months, im also making a tank company and titan legion. i have pit slaves for munda and a good 6 man INQ retinue for inquisitor.

I suppose you're right. I blew all my crowns on a Minotaur when I played Beastmen! I can't say that I regretted it, though. That bull can chew (literally!) through half a warband!

Skaven aren't too bad unless you're facing an extremely optimised build: Max heroes, everyone armed with slings and 2 daggers. Fortunately, my regular Skaven opponent hasn't tried to field anything like that...

The sink.

I play BFG and blood bowl. BFG is probably the most fun I've ever had with any GW game.

I'd play warmaster if I could find someone to play it with.

Mordheim: Undead, Middenheim, Reikland
Gothic: Imperial, Chaos, Eldar
Necro: startings of Orlocks

I like the fact that for the most part, games take about 30 minutes or so (BFG, Historicals notwithstanding), so our group, with limited time, can get a few games in an evening.

I also prefer the lower model counts to make it easier for me to paint them up.

If I were to do Necro (which we might start soon), I'd use =I= minis (28mm), and use the Van Saar rules to run them (proxies). That way I have my aesthetic, and its still within the rules.
