Yeah, that was the one thing I preferred about maccrage, it included that cool downed Aquila lander.

One of the reasons I bought macragge too...

Still I have the black reach now and it is a better starter set as you have more different types of units (vehicle, jump infantry, normal infantry, heavy infantry, different types of weapons (melta, assault, rapid fire, heavy))

All in all I think you can teach more with this set then with macragge. Terrain would be icing, but it is in no way nescesary to play a game, as anything can be terrain...

it is a good set and a unit change or something is IMHO not needed. A balanced force would be nice (maybe a buggie or a trukk would be good...)

Just my thoughts on the matter...

I never realized they did a LoTR one, but I just came across it. It's neat.

I would have let the ultramarines stay with their buggy friends, and given the Crimson Fists some love. Or perhaps another army. Whatever. Just not Smurfs again.

Oh, and orky shoota boyz. Far better than Slugga/choppa.

Finally, I would have perhaps added a trukk. The Orks need something like that.

i think maybe multi-poseable models and heavy weapons upgrades, but then again this is for beginners i guess.

I wish that GW would release a starter without any trace of SM's i would allow CSM's but not SM's, like back in 3rd when you could get dark eldar in a starter pack and others.

And maybe more boyz to replace the koptas.

Can you buy koptas in a pack or blister?

I would have made it so it came in smaller peices, like the packes you'd by, so you could convert more.

One cool thing we worked out is that, if you buy 10 Black Lagoon Boxed Sets, you end up with 100 Marines, 50 Termiantors, 10 Dreads, 200 Slugga Boyz, 50 Nobz, 30 Deff Koptaz for very little money. Those are huge armies!!

BYE

Yes, but why would you want an army of such horribly static models?

You don't have alot of imagination do you?

I like the terrain suggestion from porkuslime.

I'm going to make a suggestion that NO ONE wants to hear.

Pre-painted.

Yep, you heard me. This is supposed to be an introduction to the game for beginners, not fodder for vets to get more gubbins (though many of us--myself included--picked it up for that purpose).

If GW had been really smart, they would have made it like AT-43 Operation: Damocles. Same factions (marines vs. orks) and just had them prepainted and based. AT-43 showed that it was possible to do this and look good, and if GW really wants to get new customers, they need to get into prepainted plastic.

I'm not saying the whole range needs to be prepainted, nor am I advocating 40k become like Heroclix (i.e. a cmg), but if the purpose of this kit was to get new people into the game, even simple figures that you have to paint aren't simple enough when I can go buy a similar game and the figs are ready to go out of the box.

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

For me, just make the mini-rulebook available separately. That's all I wanted, the rest is getting farmed out.

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

Yah, mini-rulebook. Need to look on ebay again.

You'll notice that 'Koptas use the rules for bikes and jetbikes, the dread is a walker (walker rules and vehicle rules in one), and there are combat troops vs. shooty troops. Almost everything covered as far as unit types. This box is really nice for teaching.

Some of those comments cracked me up. "I wish it had a Battlewagon for the Boyz!"

Anyhoo... Wow! What an amazing gift for the GW hobbyists. Trading my marines for DOUBLE the amount of value in Orks just gave me a nice, warm feeling in my hobby tummy. I can hardly wait to make a converted plastic full unit of Nobz and make an attempt to use the plastic Boss to make a Biker Boss.

Changes - I would've liked to see some army-specific objective pieces that could fit on 40mm bases. A lot of the little extra pieces in the Fantasy starter set seem really cool.

Us Blood axes have learnt a lot from da humies. How best ta kill 'em, fer example.
