But conservatism is relative to the values held by the generation in question. One can be considered a conservative leftist if the established belief is left on the spectrum. I will certainly be conservative at 40, but only because my values will be considered accepted wisdom (I hope).
As for the population getting older. That makes sense, the baby-boomers are aging and dragging the average up with them. We may see a temporary spike of conservative thinking as a result, but I suspect that economic realities will largely mitigate that. That is, of course, provided that the Democrats can generate a cogent theory of regulated economy that amounts to more than 'not-Republican'.
