Was reading the WHFB O&G book the last few days and got the sudden and overriding urge to do Orcs and Goblins.

I had the Battle for blckfire pass models sitting in my shed so I cracked out a few NG archers to do test paint jobs on.

Cork for rock, GW sand for basing.
Sprayed black...


The next coat (1 layer everything except 2 for skin and 2 for the bow and arrow shafts.
Yes they look pants.
About to be Devlan Mudded (already done)



After the devlan mud has dried I'll rehighlight where needed.
Essentially I am after an extremely quick scheme that I can pump out 20 models per day including assembly and basing.

I'll need advice when the models are finished on which scheme (black with heavy grey highlights or black with fine grey highlights) to go with. But please wait for the finished models.

I think I would have painted it all grey and hit it with badab black since you're doing it this way.

Looking forward to seeing the finished models though.

I have to go to bed now (11.30pm here and the wife wants sleep) but the devlan mud has dried and I've started highlighting (just a quick job) one of them.

The wife will be going to buy clothes tomorrow so I'll camp out at the GW and paint whilst she is shopping for a couple of hours. So I'll finish the highlights and post finished pics up in about 16 hours.

I am so impressed with the effect the devlan mud has worked. Probably a little dark in some places, necessitating the highlights but overall an amazing effect, perfect for O@G, chaos and any other 'dirty' races....

Finished alot earlier than I had thought.

For 10 minutes of assembly/cleanup, 20 minutes of painting, and about 1 hour of drying time (primarily the glue for the sand, undercoat and devlan mud) it turned out really well.

Looks good. I was expecting to like the black with gray highlights more than the grey, but I think that the wash has toned things down to the degree that I now like the grey more.

The red bows look great of course. I would also suggest a darker color for the teeth and nails, like rotting flesh for instance. Might help to make them seem a bit more "realistic".

Darker teeth has been suggested in the modelling post, I'll look into it...

Went to paint today at my local GW whilst the wife shopped and got a heap done on my Dante model and finished the armour on another marine.

I'm really enjoying painting at the store, people to talk to and in airconditioning.

All activity has ground to a halt thanks to a huge storm and blackout.

I did manage to buy a box of night goblins to mix and match with my NG archers from BFFP.

Also went through my shed and found 16 40mm squre bases to help with batch basing for units and a special edition orc BSB.

Have started basing the larger bases but had to stop as too dark doing it by candlelight...

A tutorial on how to do the mass basing using cork as rock.
The same is done for the small bases but obviously on a smaller scale.

I'm using strip cork bought from a hobby store that is designed for model railway as basing under the railway tracks.
3mm thick, about 35mm wide and 3m of cork for $5AUS (about $6US)

The cork laid on top of a 40x40mm base and cut to fit the top exactly.

Grabbed my box cutter and scraped off the edges in a random manner, the cork just falls apart and makes it really easy.

Shot with another, smaller piece to look like a crag for more variety in the unit.

The batch all done up and glued down (use superglue).

4 NGs based.
2 BFBP NGs and 2 regiment box NGs to try and add as much variety as possible.

The eventual plan is no filler bases... currently I'll need around 200 models for my 2000 point NG army.

Are the goblins removable from this base? If not, you're going to find it damned tricky to paint them!

I'll have no major problems with painting them.
I'm used to painting larger bases.

A couple of years ago I did a heap of bases like this (all with a 20-0 brush and about 10 layers on the bone) :(



Also I made sure I could jam a brish in the recesses.

The problem I do forsee is drybrushing the cork around the NGs and trying not to mess up the robes too much.

Fair enough. I'll shut up then....

Are you planning on adding snow for gobbos as well?

Still not sure on snow.

I think it would fit the theme of the army, coming down from the mountains in winter (I'm using yellow/brown flock) but not sure if there will be reoom for it with the flock.
The robes on the NGs cover a large section of the base...

I would like to see more of the Blood Angels...

More BAs are coming.
Am waiting on a bitz order for SM commander backpacks.
The first batch of 5 BAs are progressing slowly- 3 are almost done but I want to get all 5 done before I photograph them.

Ah yes of course Rogue Trader. Unfortunately, I missed that era. I love the guy using the Orks head as a club!

Got to sit down for 6 hours today.... so thought I'd do a semi real time photo gallery.

I've been assembling models and have 40 short bows done now so thought I'd atrt on the large bases.

Start at 10.15am... sprayed black + chaos black for undercoat. Also with a backpack for my BA captain.

11.15am

All sand done, all 1st layer skin and started on the codex grey for the stone.

12.15pm

All shoes, all arrow quivers, all the rock done.

Have jumped ahead on one of the bases, just the bleached bone to go on the one on the far right.

Devlan mudded the one I was working on in advance of the others, and have done all the ropes and cords...

Spent some of the last hour having lunch, but have done most of the rehighlighting on the advanced unit.
