I can see it now,

Company Chaplain, after reciting a chapter legend to a scout squad, " And so, with Holy Assault Cannon and Blessed Powerfist, did Ancient Iron Nuts claim the lives of a thousand Orks that day."

"The Emperor Protects - And having a loaded Bolter never hurt either !" - Proteus and Pythor, Ultramarines, The Movie.

Nothing in life is so exhilirating as being shot at without result - Sir Winston Churchill (1874 - 1965)

I read about one Dreadnaught piloted by a toenail, because that was all they could find of the dead Marine, and they weren't even sure it was his.

I'm pretty sure that was a Turnsignals on a Landraider comic, but I couldn't find it in the archives...

i got my informason from a comic book called damnation crusade from BOOM! studios and i have rite hear so i going to tell what it says. For a chose few, immortality is found within the armored hull of the Emperor's deadliest machines of war. in these rare instances, the life essence of a deceased space marine is enclosed inside a fearsome, tank-like structure called a Dreadnought. For decades, even centuries after their physical deaths, these most venerated marines will continue to wage war in the holy name of mankind's supreme ruler.

A little of topic but did anyone ever read an Aliens book called Berserker, in that book and its sequel they have a dread like dude that goes into the hives. At the end the guy plugs himself into the machine and does some serious damage to his body and brain. I know this is not in the 40k universe but if we follow the same logic you dont have to be near dead to go in, but once in are, you are not the same. So it could be said that putting a healthy marine into a dread is a big waste of a marine. And in the endless war torn hell of 40k there are always near dead marines.
