Your fears of scale issues are quite unfounded.
They look brilliant. The smaller size compared to the purstrain is a good thing IMHO for a skirmish size game.

No fur capes or anything like that! The Iron Bears is just a name for the unit. I know it's very 40Kish to haul around stinky, mangy bundles of fur and half-rotted meaty skulls and stuff that say you are the manliest man around, but I wanted to root my Bears a little more to the reality!
(Not that this stops me from covering my Space Wolves with said stinking and mangy bundles of fur! )

I know GW has that vibe a lot, so as soon as there is an animal in the name all those associated with that group tend to dress up like that animal!
However, I like the more realistic approach, the Iron Bears could simply have a logo of a bear on their shoulderpad or on their vehicles, sort of similar to the clans from Battletech!

Sick; have you ever seen the rules from World in Arms? It's also a 40K skirmish game based on the Mordheim rules, I really like the rules. Especially because they already have rules for a Genestealer Cult/Brood! They sure would give some inspiration on the basic rules you're creating!
I have taken a peek at the rules and found that my take on them is quite vastly different but we shall see...

I just can't keep my attention on one set of figures for long it seems. I started working on eight new figures than consist of the five major NPC's and few extras.
I'll try to start painting everything that's ready after I've built this batch.

As I was building Pvt. Vasquez (female scout w/ long-las), it felt natural to continue work on some of the WIP Bear models. Then I realised I need to build just four more models to have all my needed Iron Bears together and I could start painting them all together (thus ensuring an uniform look). So I need just few more days to build the remaining Bears, then it's painting time!
I found a nice Flames of War british decal sheet with Iron Gauntlet symbol on it. I decided to use that with the figures. I guess the emphasis will be with the word Iron instead of the word Bears...
So, this means that the work on the Stealer Brood will continue next month...

I haven't thought the painting of the Brood that much yet. Shades of purple most likely.
I'm now going to paint the Bears first and move back to the Brood in January, so it'll be awhile yet before I tackle with the Brood colour scheme.

I think this thread needs more pictures, so a small update:
Some WIP pics:
León Chabot and Amélie D'Aoust, the civilians in charge of the expedition. I didn't feel that the Infinity figure for Amélie needed any conversion at all. Léon is a bit more converted.
Colonel Abbadie, the Iron Bears CO. Again, after I removed the SM symbols, I felt the figure was perfect as is and I didn't convert it any further.
Pvt. Vasquez, Iron Bear scout. You can't see the face well in these pics, but I hope I can show it better after I have painted this. Since the cape covers most of the figure I felt the head swap was enough to make it female. The figure is a bit slimmer when compared to the SM scout figures I'm basing the rest of the Bears.

Awesome, awesome minis. These will be a great base for a narrative campaign- looking forward to seeing more, especially battle shots.
Side note: Col Hammer and co., have you read Planetkill, the new BL collection yet? If not, I highly, HIGHLY reccommend it. There's a great 'Stealer story in there. In fact, all but one of the short stoires are top-notch (the other is "meh" but not abyssmal). Anyways, there's some great background on broods, and some other faction stuff in there that I'd rather not give away. Great source material.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

Aside from Felix & Gotrek books in fantasy and most of the Abnetts books in 40K I haven't really read that many GW books. Since the Planetkill contains a Brood stuff, I mught check it out. Thanks for the tip!

Leon's green-stuffed shoulder looks a little off in the top pic. Just kind of wide and slightly off joint. Might just be the angle, but wanted to give you a heads up.
Otherwise, great stuff!

Sorry, I can't see it. And if I can't see it, I can't fix it!
The whole figure is a bit stumpy and wide (all of the new commissars are). Perhaps that's throwing you off?
Leons hand is a bit drawn back from his shoulder, it is not hanging straight down. He's half hiding the pistol behind his back (but only a bit). That might throw you off too.
I looked at the pics again, but just can't see anything I need to fix there.
I hope it's not too distracting for you. Thanks for the info anyway!

Looked at it again. I think it might be the angle/lighting. The second pic looks fine, and I think it might just be the green stuff casting funny shadows. Wanted to give a heads up in case something was indeed off!

Looking good so far, but Amélie's legs look pretty long for her torso. You may want to consider either lengthening the torso or shortening her legs. Legs may be easier if you want to avoid re-sculpting.

I would leave her legs alone as thats the base is a Cadian Sniper and when painted I know from personal experience it won't matter. And besides who doesn't like a girl with long legs.

Ghost, I think Lasgunpacker was talking about the Infinity chick and not the cadian sniper...
Anyway, the Infinity figure is a bit different from the GW stunty style, but looks good enough alongside the GW models. I like her long legs, and I'm afraid I would ruin the figure if I tried to convert her in any way, so she stays as she is now.

Got distracted by terrain building in the weekend, so did not get any progress on the Bears. I will continue working with them today.
I want to have a small underground laboratory for some of the scenarios to take place in. It means a lot of energy and time spent on the terrain and that will slow down the figure side a bit. But I think it'll be worth it in the end.
I just can't focus on one thing at a time, so my modeling time will be divided with the terrain, Bears and the Brood. I hope to get everything done in time though (I have about 6 weeks left before I need to start thinking of the starting date of the first Broodmunda game somewhere in February).

I have started to work on 4th generation hybrid (which Magus is) psyker. But the "real" Magus character along with the Patriarch I have left for Sickbunny. He is making about half of the Brood as well as the Brood NPCs.
Right now I have my hands full of Iron Bears and terrain, so I'll return to the Brood in January.
I'm hoping that next week I have finished most of my IBs and can start painting them. Same with the first terrain pieces. It feels like they are taking forever to get done!

Ok, here's some WIP pics. I took them in a hurry and didn't have time to set up a proper lightning, so the pics ended up quite dark. I like to think it adds a bit mystery to them (yeah, right...). Anyway, for whatever they are worth, here's the pics:
I'm building a series of rooms to be fought over in the campaign. Obviously the walls will not be transparent when I spray them with paint!
These are poor pics, but I guess you can judge the size of the rooms from these. I will add some additional details to the rooms once I have painted them. Computers and stuff.
First three new Iron Bears. Combat engineer, lieutenant and flamer operator.
And the next three: SAW gunner, sniper and scout.
