Well, considering that the Tyranids were around before Starcraft, I would say that the Zerg were a total rip off of the Tyranids.

I'm pretty sure starcraft was made in the 80's.

If I remember correctly, Starcraft was originally being made to be a Warhammer 40k game.

I may be wrong on that though.

Deductive reasoning: a powerful tool....when used.

“Sanguinius. It should have been him. He has the vision and strength to carry us to victory, and the wisdom to rule once victory is won. For all his aloof coolness, he alone has the Emperor's soul in his blood. Each of us carries part of our father within us, whether it is his hunger for battle, his psychic talent or his determination to succeed. Sanguinius holds it all. It should have been his...” -- The Warmaster Horus

Back off-topic, remember those movies that were popular a couple years ago? The Twin Towers, Fellows in the Ring, Return of the Ring and all that?

Full of elfs and dwarfs and orcs and stuff. TOTAL RIP OFF OF GW! They even had a bloodthirster!

I walked out I was so pissed off.

Your right. For some reason GW didn't want to be associated with the game at the last second. I guess they though it would bomb...

Starcraft came out in '98. It was a Windows game. Not DOS.

Harlequin is french, actually.

from M.Fr. harlequin, from O.Fr. Herlequin, Hellequin, etc., leader of la maisnie Hellequin, a troop of demons who rode the night air on horses. He corresponds to O.E. Herla cyning "King Herla," mythical character sometimes identified as Woden; possibly also the same as the Ger. Erlkönig "Elf King" of the Goethe poem. Sometimes also associated with Herrequin, 9c. count of Boulogne, who was proverbially wicked.
In Eng. pantomime, a mute character who carries a magic wand. His It. form, arlecchino, is one of the stock characters of commedia del'arte. From his ludicrous dress comes the Eng. meaning "particolored" (1779).

The joker's girlfriend, is Harleen Quinzel, "Harley Quinn" is her aka. She shares the same inspiration and the same source material as the whole clown posse Harlequin eldar.

You're wrong. I assumed mid-90s, but a tiny bit of research showed that it was released in '98.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StarCraft_(series)

Let's be honest though, the genestealers are directly inspired by Alien. The game Space Hulk was directly inspired by the film Aliens. Tyranids as a whole owe something to Heinlein's Starship Troopers, as does the whole Imperium. Inspiration is what drives all creative endeavour, and as long as they are something more than the sum of the inspirational parts, or evolution makes something new, I have no problem with it.

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.
