Interesting thread!

There are some very nice speeches commissars give to the troops in one of the Gaunts Ghosts novels...the one where Gaunt acts as a commissar in the field and not as commander of the Tanith 1st. Where they attack the city in the desert.

I don't have the book with me, but I can try to improvise something that sounds a bit like it.

*bellowed by a strong voice over the shriek of missiles and the crack of gunfire*
"Men of Bellephoron! I want to tell you a story! The story of our fathers that fought and died on the shores of the Trave. Did they feel exhaustion? Yes! Did they feel fear? Yes! Did they falter when all seemed to be lost? No! Because they knew something! The knew, that in this very moment where they fought the archenemy tooth and nail, there are happy places elsewhere. Places of bliss and beauty. They thought of this places, and they knew, if they would falter here, in these very trenches, those places would perish under the feet and treads of the enemy! If they would fail, all that was good and true would be lost! Men of Bellephoron! Think of these places you are protecting right now! You are fighting for the glory and the beauties of the realm of the Emperor! Well, that really came out rather improvised.
