The T-bolt is great and the Thunderhawk looks headed in the right direction as well. Nice work!

Do you do commissions? At some point I'd like to have a few orky flyers done up this way. Just curious...

I'm borrowing a camera so these photos are a bit poor (Iphone), but I had to take a pre-paint photo. I'll have some grey-coated photos up on Thursday or Friday. I think everything is done. A few hundred rivets and some bits for detail it should paint up nice.

All great, but the engines are pathetically undersized. In my opinion, you should rethink them.

Just because anyone agrees with anyone, doesn't mean they are correct. Beware the thin line between what is "Correct" and what is "Popular."

I have to agree... everything looks incredible, one of the best scratch builds I've seen period. But it does need beefed up engines, the valk ones don't cut it imo.

I spent quite a while trying to come up with a better idea, and I decided the detail level of the valk engine compensated for it's size when compared to using plasticard tubing with no detail. I'm hoping that the final paint scheme will minimize the draw of the eye to the engine and it will be less noticeable. Once I prime it I'll put up more pics and see if it looks as bad. I wish it were an easy fix :(

you could use valk engines as inner turnbines with large tubes around them.

I think you should lay off the rivets, to many and it'll look more guard or something than SM.

95% of teens would go into a panic attack if the jonas brothers were about to jump off the empire state building copy and paste this if you are the 5% who would pull up a lawn chair grab some popcorn and yell JUMP BITCHES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The rivets are actually just in the spots the FW thunderhawk has them: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/thunder1.htm so I'm not too worried. You also have to remember this plane is more than twice the length of a landraider and has a wingspan more than 2 landraiders wide too, so those rivets are VERY spread out.

I like that idea of an extra set of valkyrie engines underneith the wing. Wish I'd thought of that earlier!

Course, SM and IG vehicles both come from the same place, so it's not exactly such different construction, besides that instead of purely tropospheric conditions, a Thunderhawk has a thicker and different material hide to cope with the vacuum of space and the heat of splashdown. So, it can have plenty of rivets, but they would still be sparingly, as such a fun loving craft needs the best enclosement it can get. . But still, nice work so far.

I still think you have enough rivets as is, maybe just a little more.

Best thing for Thawk engines is to get a star wars podracer and pull the engines off that. they are perfect.

I primed the 'bird and took some more pictures. I'll get to work painting it when I have some time.

I plan to paint the bottom and front faces black and bleeding the colour onto the sides to simulate burning from reentry, what do you think? A black belly so to speak.

It is AWESOME, but I still think you should at least get another pair of valk. engines.

I'm just throwing this out there, but one of the best engines I've seen for a scratch built thunderhawk come from models/toys of Anakin Skywalkers racing pod from SW EP 1.

You might be able to find some discount toys or what not. Just be sure to check size/scale of course.

See pics of my Orks, Tau, Emperor's Children, Necrons, Space Wolves, and Dark Eldar here:

Those engines are almost the perfect size, but I could only find them for around $25 and wasn't prepared to spend that much on a bit.

Very nice! Primed grey it's really hard to tell it's been scratchbuilt.

I finally found some time to finish off the thunderhawk. I'd babble on about it but pictures speak louder than words:

The painting isn't the best but it's done, and I'm far more proud of the modelling anyway. I took a leap of faith and dull coated the model (the first of my marines) and it doesn't stick out that much from them, but I think I actually like the more varnished look.

PS. Yes the engines are little, but there's 3 of them and it's 40 000 years from now
