19 grots and a runtherder make a great meat shield for my big mek with shokk attack gun. They sit on (and hold) an objective and suck up shooting attacks while the big mek tries to blast things.

KingCracker wrote:Ok simply put grots are the secrete big SC killers in the Ork horde. One mob has 30 grots! Thats basically 30 wounds. You need 3 runtherds in a 30 grot mob. BUT give those 3 the prods, and presto they wound on a 4+ PERIOD. Imagine how pissed off a necron player would get killing a nightbringer with grots.
They are totally badass....but really only in certain circumstances IMO

Any good necron player knows the Night Bringer can just use Gaze of Death "The Nightbringer may choose to use the Gaze of Death instead of attacking normally in close combat. Place the Ordnance template over the C'tan. Any enemy models beneath it are hit automatically. Every model hit takes a Strength 4 hit with no armor saving throw permitted."

He can kill 30 grots in about 2 turns =).

A squad of ten grots is always a good investment for an ork army, unless you've maxed out on troops choices (like me).

Also, yes, rebel grots were one of the factions in Gorkamorka, and there have actually been quite a few 40k armies made in their tradition (using both IG and Ork rules). I'm working on one myself, actually. There are some other good ones at The Waaagh.

The Emperor doesn't seem to do much for you but you sure are expected to be mutilated, suffer, and die to make him happy. And is he dead or what? If he's entombed that would mean he's dead as a doornail, right? So, how can he be happy about anything you do, or even give orders to anyone? Are you worshipping the dead now? Is that something you'd really want to do? Because it sounds freaking creepy to me.

Grots have a place in the army. It depends on what your over all game plan is. "How do you want your army to win?" is the question.

I dread to think...

I use Grots. Mainly as a meat shield and for holding objectives. But don't keep them TOO near a SAG. Believe me, i know.

95% of teens would go into a panic attack if the Jonas brothers were about to jump off the empire state building. Copy and paste this if you are the 5% who would pull up a lawn chair grab some popcorn and yell JUMP BITCHES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Small units is the trick, when they're assaulted they lose combat, fail leadership, the squig eats up D3 gretchin, fail the reroll anyway and run, that's their job.
I don't want them in CC anymore during my own turn, because sending in boyz while gretchins are fighting is just asking to get badly spanked on combat resolution.
They serve to give me an extra turn of shooting & more time to move reinforcements before they finally hit my boyz line, to soak up the bonus attacks from being assaulted and to claim extra attacks & the furious charge bonus when I charge them next turn. And occasionally gretchin actually manage to kill something, but that doesn't matter much, it's not about what they can kill, it's about the unit(s) that would have died if they hadn't died.

Also, the look on your opponent's face when he realises your gretchin's shooter spam actually killed one of his termies.

I collect:
Guard - 2k of mostly infantry
DA - 2k of deathwing, 2k of other bits (no vehicles)
Sisters - mostly converted/proxy because I'm waiting for therange to go plastic.
Tau - 2k with no riptides because I can.

I use them because theyre always underestimated in areas with few mob- type armies.

Watching the SM guys with las/plas cookie cutter squads fail to kill them and get assaulted by green midgets amuses me.

I had alot of fun modeling mine too. Plastic goblins plus a couple blisters of old gorkamorka grot weapons = fun.

I use Grots alot. With Cyborking (which you should NOT do by the way, massive waste of points) they can hold a carnifex up foor several turns. I have won games just using them as a pain in the ass. Even without cybork they can do this effectively.

Their guns also really do kill stuff.

In a Society in which there is no law, and in theory no compulsion, the only arbiter of behaviour is public opinion. But public opinion, because of the tremendous urge to conformity in gregarious animals, is less tolerant than any system of law. When human beings are governed by "thou shalt not", the individual can practise a certain amount of eccentricity: when they are supposedly governed by "love" or "reason", he is under continuous pressure to make him behave and think in exactly the same way as everyone else.
