Drummerboy wrote:Well being an old ork player I understand your argument, but if I were playing guard 30 orks would never make it to my lines with 30 orks.

I dropped 19 out of 30 orks in a mob with one turn of shooting with my tyranids last game...only 2 models (Tyrant and Carnifex w/devourers) shot. Imagine what a real gun line could do.

As far as ork boys go do you run shoota's or slugga & choppas?

I run a Kan Wall army so the entire army gets 4+ cover (Either from a KFF protecting the Kans or from shooting through the Kans). People always have a hell of a time wittling down my boys.

That said, I do run SHootas. I've run both but I find pound for pound hte extra 6" range and extra shot outweighs the extra CC attack. It seems to help shoar up Ork's major weakness, poor BS, and I'm never at a loss of attacks in Close Combat.

Current Armies:

Warmachine:
Shae Pirate's Life 50
Durgen attrition 50

WH40K:
Orks (5,000 pt Apoc Kan Wall, 1850 Bikerz)
Grey Knights (1850 Crowe Purifiers, 2500 'Ard Boyz Draigo)
Sisters of Battle (Seraphim spam)

Tau

Best basic troop gun in the game.
Marker lights.

It's crazy.

Effective BS5 with S5 weapon?

Math hammer shows Tau win in Prue shootiness.

Lets not forget a Twin-linked S10 AP1 railgun for base 70 points.

IG is second.

I have come to steal your pornography and sodomize my vast imagination.

I am still surprised at the attention that this thread has gotten. I think I'm going to guard and then slowly turn it in to a witch hunters army. That's something that is fairly unique and I personally have never seen.

The question lacks enough data to be able to give a reasonable answer.

Sheer number of shots? Anti-tank? Point level? Competitive in 5th ed environs?

For instance, my standard necron 2k list had 96 str5+ ap4 shots with bs4, all models having t5, 3+ saves with wbb and an effective range of 30+". Throw in 20 bolters that could glance vehicles and I would say that qualifies as good shooting.

Guard can get way up there as well with a massive amount of hydras, vendettas and platoons.

More info, better answers.

Kung Fu Jim wrote:IG is by far the Most shooty army, even if they have a 12% kill ratio per shot (for me anyways). Templates are the name of the game: Warhammer 40TemplateK.

Speaking of templates.. I'm kind of tempted to make something like this for Orks:

Mek w Shokk Attack Gun - 100 pts
Mek w Shokk Attack Gun - 100 pts

10 lootas - 150 pts
10 lootas - 150 pts

19 grots w runtherd - 67 pts
19 grots w runtherd - 67 pts

5 Deffkoptas w Bigbomms, TL Rokkits - 300 pts
5 Deffkoptas w Bigbomms, TL Rokkits - 300 pts
5 Deffkoptas w Bigbomms, TL Rokkits - 300 pts

Looted Wagon w Boomgun - 105 pts
Looted Wagon w Boomgun - 105 pts
Looted Wagon w Boomgun - 105 pts

= 1849

Turboboost all deffkoptas in the scout phase, then turboboost them across the opposing army if they are infantry and drop 15 S4 AP5 Large Blasts (unless you are facing mech, in which case you move, shoot, maybe assault).
Then drop 3 x S8 large blasts and 2x S2d6 large blasts.
Follow it up with between 20 and 60 S7 shots from the lootas.
Put either the grots or the lootas infront of the Looted Wagons' so that they can't move more than an inch or two if they happen to roll a 1 for "don't press dat!".

Only reason I'm not heading out and making it right now is that it seems slightly one-dimensional lol
The thought of landing 20 templates on a guard infantry army Turn 1 tho... oh man, it's tempting.

imweasel, I wasn't really trying to get the end all answer...I don't think that exists, I was just wondering what the general consensus was on dakka. I've looked at Necrons many of time and I would play them if they had a little variety but they don't. There is only like 5 units in the codex that see consistent table time and I'm afraid I'd get bored with it after a while.

I like the 96 Sr5 shots, but especially with the new Guard codex, given the same amount of points as all of those immortals, you could get 15 plasma cannons on AV14 tanks plus another 200pts to spare...36" range 2+ kills with no WBB...1 HS slot

number9dream: that is an awesome list...That is orky as hell and would awesome to see on the table. May not win every game, but it would be fun to play with.

2000 Volts wrote:i'm shocked orks aren't on the list, they are one of the most shootiest army in the game.

Try mathhammering out a full shoota boy mob. For 195 pts (no nob in this calculation) you get:

54! bs 2 S 4 18" shoota shots and 9 bs2 s 5 36" big shoota shots. Many a maine squad has fallen to my ork shooting.

In fact.... Here are the results:

Shoota Shots: 50 shots at BS 2, S4 vs T4 AS 3 results in 2.777764 unsaved wounds + 4 more shots which is .22222 unsaved wounds so you're pretty sure to kill 3 marines with just the shootas.

9 Big Shoota Shots, BS 2 S 5 vs marines nets .666 kills! For another 1 dead marine. So ork shooting will take out half a marine squad!

Note: The same mob on the charge kills 4.99999 marines not counting a nob.

Inversely, a full marine squad kills 6.6666 orks out in the open BUT - since most of my orks get 4+ cover saves from KFF's or, are in cover or shooting through stuff (what ork player doesn't do that), it drops marine shooting kills to just 3.3333320. The marine shooting is also assuming the squad did't move and is within 12 inches to rapid fire their bolters. On 10 shots the marine shooting drops to 3.33/1.66(in cover) kills.

Also, Ork shooting cuts a marine squad in half. Marine shooting barley cuts the Ork mob down by a fifth!

QFT..,Don't let the BS 2 fool you,Orks are a very effective shooting army

Number 9 dream, you can't turbo boost in the scout phase.

You really can't beat IG at shooting. I dont think its possible.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.

Guard have tanks, Valks, etc. But take those away and all you have at the core are lasguns.

Whereas Tau has minimum S5 and by far the Longest ranged guns. (well...basilisk is further...)

Markerlights can help with crappy BS

Plus, Railguns.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

That's only Dark Angels. Nobody else has any problem turbo-boosting during a Scout move.
