Hanging Out with Russ until Wolftime

Gavin Thorne wrote:IIRC, Bjorn the Fell-Handed was around during the time of Russ, but was only a little kicker back then.
-Slowly Awakens as the Dust falls off-
Bjorn the Fell Handed is the Oldest known serving Dreadnought loyal to the Emperor. He was the first Great Wolf, and was the youngest member of Leman Russ' Wolf Guard. When Russ vanished, he took all but Bjorn. 7 Years passed, and yet Russ did not return, so Bjorn was elected Great Wolf, to act as a Steward in Russ' place. Every hundred years he is awoken and told the new sagas of the Sons of Russ and tests the Rune Priests of their Knowledge of the Sagas of Old.

Fun fact: To represent the fact he is well over 10,000 years old (aka HE IS A FREAKING PRE HERESY MARINE) he has I3 in the new Codex. True Story!

I've never thought or heard of that idea before. I really dig it. Might be a fun house rule to write up some stats for and use.

LiberatedObject wrote:My guess would be it is all dependant on rank. Also, consider there are three different types of Dreadnought, the Reg, Venerable and then Ironclad. Plus in some instances, great heroes might even get a customized one. So maybe there is the possibility that a regular old guy dies heroicly, Reg. A great hero dies, Venerable. Crazy guy who likes to hit stuff, Ironclad. And then super fantastic heroes get a nice custom Dread.

I just take the different dreads as similar to different weapon loadouts right? It's not like if you are a heavy weapons guy you become Ironclad.

Jimsolo wrote:A friend brought up an interesting idea too. The dreadnaught sarcophagi may be more numerous and available than the armor itself. Some chapters may have buildings with dozens or hundreds of sarcophogi bound warriors awaiting a suit of dreadnaught armor for their own. Kind of a creepy image, if you ask me.

That is a really good idea for some legitimate sounding fluff, I like it.

Loricatus Aurora wrote:think white dwarf ran an article speculating what the stats of a SM would be if they mirrored the fluff - anyone read that?

Anyone got a copy of that? It sounds interesting.
