Would any body else be unsurprised if they dropped Dark Eldar altogether? I mean, hell yeah they need a new codex (i voted 5) but I would be massively surprised if they were dropped...

They're in there! or out there..... Page 200 in RT. supported by a 50% zoat slave force. Genestealers still being a seperate alien species then, even before cult armies.

Obsidian has a point. Unfortunately GW is a business and has to choose the most profitable/viable decisions to keep being a business. I'd rather suffer from a few (ahem) bad or rather unpopular decisions and still have the wealth of models and resources they offer than they went under. This doesn't mean I agree with some of their choices or apparent attitude towards gaming (More dice/models/money) and have often ranted at/past or around GW. It's a shame because a little more consultation with us, the gamer, and I think more people would be satisfied.
Just look at NetEpic and bloodbowl (the only game in my twenty year hobby that has truly got better IMO).

I still play RT with my Squats (although the models were weak, or sometimes plain bad, and as a force they needed a lot of work to be viable). I'm now merrily converting them to be used as IG in 5th ed. Not because of the rule set but because I'll have more opponents and the social side is important. Also true line of sight...now, how do i make a kneeling squat?

Concerning the DE...If I was a DE player I'd be worried, a race you like (and have bothered collecting and lavishing time and money on) that hasn't been updated in years and is floundering in the immaterium.....and the Tyranids are coming again!!!!!!! deja vu. Marmite up.

There are two armies that I hate facing - Eldar and DE.

I've never beaten either of them - EVER!!!

DE are an awesome army if played right.

Yes they do need new stuff, but they are still a lot more playable than Nids and certainly more playable than Tau.

Ok, seriously, 10 years....idc how much some other codex's need a redo, don't you think thats a bit extreme? DE players are some of the most loyal GW supporters (have to be not to get another army) so why not reward them a bit?

Imo, update list should be:

DE, Nids, Inquisition, Tau, Chaos (Legions)

But of course, we all know how much GW loves to reveal info...

Only if one willfully ignores the Nov. 2003 DE update, can one claim "10 years".

Otherwise, if we look at Codices that have gone longer without any updates, we have:
- DH from Mar '03
- Necrons from Jul '02
- Pups from Apr '00 (finally redone this year!)

And Nids being the oldest of the major Codices getting an update first thing next year makes sense, too.

thats if you count the update, which believe me, is not a popular subject among DE players. So I generally tend not to.

Although thanks for reminding me about Necrons, imo should be between IQ and Tau.

IMO, it's hard not to count the update, given that it was actually printed and sold.

what i've heard from my local DE player (also a good friend) about the update:

But i can see your point, and its probably the road GW will go, shunting aside that codex for more popular armies (although i've seen a lot of interest expressed in DE, if only they would get updated...)

The Emperor doesn't seem to do much for you but you sure are expected to be mutilated, suffer, and die to make him happy. And is he dead or what? If he's entombed that would mean he's dead as a doornail, right? So, how can he be happy about anything you do, or even give orders to anyone? Are you worshipping the dead now? Is that something you'd really want to do? Because it sounds freaking creepy to me.

YES!! For the love of Nurgle!! Reprint the Dark Eldar!!
I'm tired of the bitching. Everytime you mention something that could use a little tweaking in another army codex the only response I get is: "Well, try not having a new codex in ten years."

I'm tired of it, too.

As a Dogs of War player, I'll see their 10 years (with an update 6 years ago) and raise them a couple more years without any legal Army Book, and only a bottom-tier rulebook list that's since been disallowed at GT events.

AFAIC, the DE crowd can STFU until my DoW get theirs. The DE have a competitive army, an army that can play at any current GW event, a printed Codex, and a printed update that isn't close to the oldest of current Codices (at least 3 or 4 older, non-DE Codices). When GW tells the DE crowd that they can't play in GT events, takes their army completely off the webste, *then* they can talk.

In the mean time, the DoW and CD crowd would give their eyeteeth to be where the DE are today. Along with the LatD and Kroot players on the 40k side of the house. Not to mention the WFB SoC players.

Bunch of crybaby ingrates.

OK, that was maybe a bit too much ranty-rant. The idea that somehow DE are suffering more than others, and "deserve" special treatment does raise my hackles quite a bit.

It's one thing to be kinda neglected, and I get that. But when you've been well and truly Squatted, then your perspective might change.

and you know what, the bitching would stop if GW would actually finish the codex....a project that has been "ongoing" for a couple of years now. Its one thing for GW to just ignore an army (not something I agree with, GW needs to cut back on the SM turkey and let some others shine) but its another thing to announce a codex and then stall for years. Thats what I believe is more of the core of the problem, the fact that GW just cannot seem to finish its promises

OTOH, actually formally Squatting the Squats *did* have the desired effect of shutting up all of the Squat players asking when they'd get their Codex...

Despite my namesake I hold no real grudge against GW for what happened to the stunties (as i said; the models were weak and the stats weaker). I've maintained a force for twenty years (although some of this time was spent in R&R in a box in a cupboard.) and whilst i still play RT I am adapting (slowly) and intend to use them as counts as IG in 5th. Unless you are attempting to play in or win tourneys with DE simply adapt your codex if you need to and play with friends who won't mind. Your other option is to force people to take up RT again and simply design the DE as you would want them.

DE players take note though; ten years is along time without development especially with a race that matches perfectly with one of the reasons they stopped supporting the squats: a fantasy archetype in space. Not trying to offend DE players as I rather like a slightly fantasy/space opera setting; as it is just a game........but if the DE do return will they be recognisable or will you have to add their "new look" to your book of grudges? Chris Fitzpatrick did a nice job on the DE line but there is so much potential there they could be developed into an almost unrecognisable force. I know that if the squats did return (I know this won't happen and am not sure I want them to) they won't be the bearded, mohican-ed, smoking, short, high-tech IG they were.

DE are more playable than nids right now, and nids are a bigger player in the fluff. I dont blame GW for putting them off and frankly they can go the way of the squat for all I can I think its a silly idea. Just make exodites or darkly painted Eldar if you are emo.

Exactly and besides those old farts who will whine about anything anyway (and still drop all their spare dough on the game, go figure) who even cares about squats anymore. Just get rid of DE and all the forums in the world will rejoice at the future bandwidth saved.
