I really wonder why the DOW games were rated M, i mean blood, yes but nothing worse then some T rated games I have. Body's, nothing new. No cussing at all, Call of Duty II was worse then DOW in that respect.
Blood if used correctly can enhance the story, in the novels there is gore but it isn't there for the gores sake and that makes the story great and not another Sci-fi blood bath.
I wouldn't let a 3 year old see it but 10 and older should be able to, a good chunk of the people who play 40K are probably under 18. After all Burger king had lord of the rings toys in the happy meals.

I just heard of the film myself. I expected a larger outburst of fandom for it, I'm thinking it's still quite under the radar.
Anyway, I hardly ever see anyone ever play Ultramarines. I'm the only person at my gaming club who collected and played them, everyone else used either fists or grey knights. Regardless, I am looking very forward for this movie. ANd just because its a straight to dvd doesn't mean anything. FF7 advent children was a cgi straight to dvd and it was an outstandingly good movie. I'm just hoping for a truely epic storyline and an R rating.

I always felt like they would take an IG story and turn it into a decent action/scifi movie though. Something like Gaunts Ghosts would be easy enough to explain quickly in afeature film.
If thats the case , maybe it'll come out in the LE release of the Space Marine game .
Either way, as soon as its out , its going to be ripped and downloaded for free.
generating almost no sales thus GW will lose money.
In b4 next GW price hike to cover the loss.

Netflix is a wonderful thing. Makes it difficult to use the DVD as skeet if the movie truely sucks though.

I want the Marines to be fighting giant sacks of meat who explode into gory heaps of hamburger. The climax takes place inside a slaughterhouse, where meat gets exploded into smaller meat. It will be retitled "Ultramarines: The Giblet Chronicles"
All kidding aside, I'm cautiously optimistic. GW is really protective over their IP and have turned down plenty of offers to make movies and TV shows of their product, so for them to greenlight this is a good sign.

I second that. However, I know some pretty harsh PG-13s. On that note, i think if anything Ultramarines should have more than the necissary amout of gore rather than Less. More than, say, the intro to DoW. Lots more
They should be trying to capture a grotesque and darkly violent universe rather than impervius blue blocks.

Like someone else said, Direct-to-DVD doesn't indicate quality - It just saves a company hundreds of thousands of dollars in getting a film licensed for theatre showings. It's a cost saving measure, which, on GW's part is quite smart considering the more money they save, the better chance we might have at seeing prices on minis drop a little (Note: BIG emphasis on "a little")
Besides, no point spending that much if the movie won't sell. Direct-to-DVD could mean that they're gauging responses too. Releasing a small, shorter film could be a measure as to how much money they would make from a 40K movie franchise. If Ultramarine sells like a raped ape, then they might consider expanding. So that 240 minute long, 3 disc epic movie might become a reality, but only if they know it's going to sell.

Ok every one buy a copy for yourself and give one to all your friends.
Prehaps a series of 30 minute episodes would be a good branch off. Something like "Black Templar cronicles","Wraithship voyage" or "Gaunts Ghosts" would catch interest.

I like the idea that it's a short, 70min movie. Sometimes I don't have time for a full 90something or more minutes. I wouldn't mind if they made a series of 40 min short films each depicting a different battle. Please oh please let there be no Hollywood style romance. I don't want to see any smurfs getting all soft and mushy over a girl.

My little bro watches the clone wars series, and i took him 2 c the movie...it wasn't half bad. And I would be upset if there were no Chaos marines. I would love it if the alpha legion came and tricked the orks or something similarly alpha-legionish.

I hope it is like 5 minutes of ultramarines at the beginning fighting in a battle and then like 65 minutes of a guardsman and his doomed (haha) romance with a farseer. Or better yet, a love triangle involving Lelith Hesperax. And lets upgrade that guardsman to a commissar... Now we are talking!!!!

Clone wars is actually very well animated, though I think the art design might make it look sloppier than it actually is. Check out the TMNT movie from a year or two ago if you want top-notch CGI.
