I'm really surprised no one suggest dipping these. A dip would have added depth to the skin and everything else.

In this case of course, the dry time 24-48 hrs would be prohibitive, but in general a dip or wash is the solution for adding some depth to fast-painted miniatures.

I'm a big perfectionist - some would be surprised that I picked Orks. Actually, the Orks picked ME but that's another story for another day!

Anyway, these Orks look good for a FAST paintjob. It uses two of the Holy Laws of painting as far as I'm concerned: metallics look good, black looks good.

I like my Orks to look better than this, but I've also learned: nobody cares what your models look like except maybe for your Warboss and other "cool" models (these they will look at for 5 seconds and say "cool.") So truth is, if your rank and file look good from 2 feet away, you're fine.

Nice tutorial! Thanks for posting it!

I just wanted to hop in here and thank Khorneonthecob for this mini-tutorial. I've been apprehensive to try doing orks because I wasn't sure if I could achieve that 'look'... the imperfect, messy 'look' that is the orks. I recently made a trade for a whole slew of waaagh! power, but they haven't arrived yet... so I picked up a pack of lootas and tried out this method. They look - to my standards, at least - PHENOMENAL. I did a few alterations - washed the skin twice with thraka green, ivory bone on the teef, a nice black wash to bring everything together - but overall, GREAT suggestion on how to paint up the boyz. Thanks again!

I never saw the point in spending hundreds of dollars on warhammer 40k, just to paint them in an hour and make them look like a 12 year old did it. Thats me though. Its more of a hobby and all about having fun putting great work into customizing your army. Then goto WARRGHHH with em.

I appreciate speed, especially with a horde army, but these guys look really ugly. I guess if you absolutely had to paint your minis under penalty of death in a very short amount of time this would work, but otherwise I'd put at least a bit more effort in. At the very least I'd do a Devlan Mud wash instead of a black ink wash, as it's less harsh.

I guess I'd rather fight an army that looked like this than a grey plastic one, but they're not looking so good.

It's much preferred to the hoards of people that have boring unpainted armies...

Check out my Project (B)log! I would love any suggestion or comments you may have.

ha. Not bad. I'd say go around that green again with a drybrushing of goblin green, which can't take more than 10 minutes.
