Then it shouldn't pretend to be one! If you aren't going to moderate this place properly, then get rid of the fething Swap Shop altogether. I'm tired of watching the mods go after the wrong people and lock threads like this so nothing can be resolved.

but how the hell else do I send 40 models?

Uh, seriously? You do what I and every other reputable model trader on the internet does: buy some cheap foam from Wal-Mart, some bubble wrap, and foam peanuts.

Obviously you won't be able to prevent all damage, they're pretty rough with those packages at the post office/UPS, but you can't be held liable for that so long as you clearly did all you could to prevent it. So far I personally have had no complaints about broken models from my trades on Tau Online or sales on eBay, because I make little foam coffins for them, wrap them in bubble wrap, and ship them in appropriately-sized boxes with foam peanuts to ensure they don't move around too much. Printing shipping labels is also handy if you have illegible handwriting.

Honestly..."what the hell else do I do?" It sounds to me like you were either too cheap to get the foam (which is baffling since you were getting 2,000 points more models than you were sending), or too lazy to wrap 40 individual models.

Anyway, sorry if I'm being unfair, obviously I wasn't involved in this trade and don't know the whole story, but when I read that I felt like I had to respond. I don't ever say "Eh, feth it" and just toss models in a shopping bag, they're too expensive to be handling them like that, and it's unfair to the guy sending you 4,000 freaking points in exchange.

You don't even really have to wrap them all individually, I used to cut the foam into blocks and do batches of them, like 6-10 for each block.

Big'Uns wrote:You recieved my army first you, should have taken one look and seen your trade was not on par..

You recieved 50 fire warriors
40 kroot and dozens of other models all individually wrapped in paper, I insured that no two models touched and that the box was stuffed to keep things from moving..

In your box there were 5 bubble wrap balls, taking up 40% of the box. Not one model is not broken zid.. most were just in bits at the bottom of the box.

You know darn well that they could have kicked the box i sent to you halfway cross country and not much damage would have happened. You will also notice on the box that was shipped to you it says FRAGILE all over it.. Unlike your box which is unmarked.

I took every precaution to ensure that you recieved my army( and im guessing only the models that started out broken you recieved broken) and you took none. Including skimping on postage in the first place.

You can seriously say that you believe this is a fair trade?

YOU made the offer, if the value was off that was YOUR choice. NONE of your stuff was metal, thus wrapping plastic models in paper works. yet all the crisis suits were missing weapons, had broken feet. The kroot were overpainted like horribly, same with the fire warriors. 2 hammerheads broke in half. I fixed it all and called it good. I told you I was sending parcel, if you had issues you should have relayed them. And yes, it was my mistake for not writing fragile.

Now, if you want to propose some way to FIX this issue and calm your nerves, fine. I'm not doing this blame game all night, I have better things to do.

No I didn't get foam, but I bought 2 big rolls of bubblewrap and used 1 whole roll on this trade alone. I had never sent models before. But oddly, this is the ONLY trade where stuff even came broken that wasn't supposed to! I sent an entire SM army and the other half of my nids with minimal gripes. Yes, I admit, I should have wroten FRAGILE on the sides with arrows, thats my bad.

Well honestly I don't know if writing "Fragile" really helps. I've had the guy at the PO stamp it on when asked, but I don't think they're any more careful with the package...

@Luna: Actually, he does have a point there, if you aren't happy with a proposed trade then you don't have to go through with it. I sure wouldn't if I didn't like the terms.

So far though, all my trades have been pretty fair. Well, mostly. I was kinda new to trading when I started and accidentally charged some people too much for shipping (I used those flat rate shipping boxes thinking I had no other option, lol)...but when it was brought up I did what I could to make it up.

The only things in the box I didn't wrap individually were the hormagaunts, warriors, and rippers. The zoans were stacked in a straight line, wrapped in bubble, and taped. All other models were wrapped in bubblewrap and taped to ensure they would be covered.

And say what you will Lunahound, honestly until a feasible and reasonable suggestion is made by big'uns in how to allay his anger, theres no sense arguing. I'm here to make stuff right, not point fingers anymore. Theres really no sense to keep doing this.

As well, it wasn't 4000 points. He says it was, but my friend (who I gave the tau army) said he can barely scrape 3500 with full upgrades. I had 4000 points of nids, big'uns just wanted all my MC's and bunch of rippers and horms, as well as my lictors and some other stuff. It was his offer, not mine. And price wise it was equal. Hammerheads are what, $40 a piece? he had 3, and 3 devilfish ($30 a piece). My MC's more than covered the cost of those, and then some. The rest of the army was about equal price wise.

The tau are gone, period. Nothing I can do. Like I said, a feasible suggestion. I can help you repair them, send you a bit of money to buy stuff to fix them. The army is fixable, period. Your angry stuff fell apart, I understand that, but I can't send back something I don't have anymore. I told you why I was trading for your tau (cuz I personally don't like them).

And dipping them isn't a "good" paint job, they look a lot worse in person.

I always compare retail to retail, rather than point values... it keeps things simple!

It does seem like the super-good-guy thing to do would be to agree to swap back... that's asking a lot, but that's probably the only way to really resolve it. Nids are hot right now (new codex coming out) so you wouldn't have much trouble trading them. I certainly had an easy time trading my nids for tau last year, and now it's an even better climate for trading nids.

Edit: Looks like that's not possible, but maybe one of the suggestions above will work.

Problem is I can't, I gave the tau away to a friend like I told Big'uns I was going to do (because I don't want tau). I can only help to fix the army or send him money to buy a couple new pieces. Otherwise I'm at a loss, I sent him the stuff, it broke, I'm sorry, so how can I help resolve this?

A bad trader should be able to handle being called out on a debated trade, which from what I can see, at least Zid is attempting to do. I'm hoping things can come to a resolution that will make people at least moderately content. This is why we let Bad Trader Alerts go through - so that trade issues can be resolved (hopefully) and so that people can refer to the information presented in these things and make their own judgments on whether to trade with these users.

These threads do NOT supersede the Dakka rules of being polite and attacking other users, however. The facts can be given without name-calling - it's unfortunate that this is considered "helping the accused", but we're here to keep things civil. As a general, once one guy starts pouncing with attacks, lots of others do as well which gives us the unfortunate need to lock threads. We're not opposed to letting people sort things out. But sort things out civilly.

I am not sure it is proper to give away or trade off something that isn't quite yours. Until the trade is finalized by both sides, what you received from Big was not yours to give away. Big had issues with the army he received and until the issues were resolved you really had no right to give away/ trade the army he sent to you. I have been trading for years on other sites and this is just standard procedure.

It's great that Zid is willing to work to resolve this somehow, and I think these are good suggestions. Big'Uns, maybe you could PM Zid with what you think would rectify the situation... and then post here to let everyone know it's been resolved. There's not a perfect solution (even trading back, you're both out for double the shipping cost, plus the damage to the models from shipping, and all the hassle involved) but hopefully one of the things Zid suggested will work for you Big'Uns.

I didn't realize I was insulting your painting.

I am asking for a refund Zid, this army is not fixable. as soon as I get my camera I will show you the extent of the damage. My cellphone does not do it justice. None of the breakages are on the joints. The Lictors and Zoanthropes were too dark to show up, but are mostly twisted and broken. All the warriors are destroyed, not just off their bases. only the 3 with wings managed only to lose their wings. Even the Tyrant guard are misfigured. The rippers however were alright only 1 losing it's base..

I told him I was trading for the army to give away to a friend, he said cool. As far as I'm concerned he recieved the army, while it might have been broken up, it is fixable. Its his choice if he wants to be angry and not fix it, honestly 1 tube of epoxy and 5 hours of work and I could get almost everything put back together (that tyrants wings have fallen off a million times). Its not against any rules to trade off stuff you just got. I even asked Big'uns if there were any issues the first time I sent it, and because he never got it, it never was resolved. I spent $40 of my money shipping twice and trying to make this work, I'm even offering to help resolve it.

Honestly I don't know what else to do. This is the only trade i've had where this has happened.

Well that is completely unreasonable and I decline. if this soils my name, fine, but I am not buying you another 3 hive tyrants, 3 lictors, 5 carnifexes, etc. And I do not have the other army to send back.

I apologize.

That would normally be fine. Every single model is damaged, not a few.. 10 models i can pick up and repair with some glue. all the hormagaunts can be fixed. the lictors, zoanthropes, hive tyrants, and carnifexes are all beyond my abilities to save.

They are beyond Uptonius' ability to save and he's been doing this for 15 years. When models arms break off..fine.. But when the details on all the metal models are smeared, you just can't fix that..

I'd really like to see pics of the models...

But yeah, it goes without saying that trading off the Tau immediately, before Big'Uns even received his half of the trade, was not a very good idea and makes the whole thing look a bit shady. They weren't yours to do away with, not until the trade actually goes through and both parties have received their goods.

I was going to suggest that (I noticed your sig)... there's no perfect solution, but if you can't trade back, maybe trading a different army would work. Those are all great ideas... just have to land on the one that works for Big'Uns. Sleep on it, maybe, and who knows...

It doesn't sound like it's possible, but if you explained the details to your friend, they might understand too, Zid. Like I said, nids are hot... if you take them back, you could get another good trade for them.

Big'Uns, one more possibility is to sell the nid army on Ebay (it will do pretty well, obviously you'd have to repair it first as far as possible, though) and then, perhaps with what Zid could chip in, put it towards another army (from here, Btown, or ebay). It might have to be a little smaller, but you could get items in better condition, which seems like it would be better.

Edit: That sounds like a good idea, Zid... he's probably just out on a Saturday evening like the rest of us should be

Honestly looking on Ebay I can Spend $300 or so and get Big'uns a decent tau or nid army. I have a bit of spare cash and I'm not above doing that to spare any further trouble. I just wanna get this resolved and move on.

My friend would, but we'll see. If Big'uns wants his stuff back specifically I'll have to wait until the morning and call him. He'd be willing to give it to me to send back probably, theres some nice Ebay armys up atm

Ok I just called my buddy and hes ok with me taking the tau back and sending it to you Big'uns. Would that suffice? He said he'll just borrow one of my other armys in the meantime until I get him a new one.

However, please note, it will take a day or two. I'd have to get the army from him, package it back up (neatly) and send it off monday. I'd priority it. I just want this whole ordeal over with so I can get back to doin my thing. And I would expect you to send the nids you have back, I'll work on repairing the army and sell it or something.

I am treating this as any other purchase.. I have paid and I have recieved severly damaged merchandise. I do not care how I get what I paid for. Either return my tau in the condition they were sent to you, or replace the items that I was supposed to recieve. I will return the damaged merchandise. Other than that their is no acceptable resolution that can be mitigated on here..

As per the OP's request and Zid offering to make amends, or un-swap, as it were, I am going to lock this thread.

I will also PM both parties involved.

I did not wish to get into an argument of conjecture. However now that my army is safely back in my hands I would like to clarify a few things.
A Pm from Zid

Zid wrote:
Firewarriors/Pathfinders. A couple broken heads and arms, 1-2 fell off bases. Couple missing weapons. Everything that was in the box they came in is in one of the plastic baggies (my friend did not repair any models but the devilfish)

Bitz box, everythings there (one stealth suit was assembled)

vespids, all 4. 2 were not on bases when recieved. Wings are in the bitz box.

Etereal. Wasnt on a base, but there were bases in the box.

Crisis suits. These CAME in this condition, missing arms, legs broken. None were repaired other than 2 glued to flying bases. If the arms were in the boxes they are in one of the baggies, tho my friend said none of the arms were in any of the boxes (he checked).

Stealth suits came through unscathed

Drones, few had broken guns (course to be expected when they were shipped in a baggy). Everything they came with is still inside.

Kroot

A few kroot broke, one fell off his base, anothers legs broke, and one broke off at the waist

Tanks, all good to go. Weapons in one of the boxes

Tanks again

Hammerhead weaponry.

All the stuff that was broken/scattered around the bottom of the box when I got them. These will be baggied up. The crisis suits were placed in here so i could take pics of the tanks (my desk isn't that large)

Please note other than the two crisis suits glued to bases EVERYTHING is in the condition I recieved it in. My friend didn't fix anything or put anything together (hes lazy) other than 1 of the sprued stealth suits. All bitz that were laying around at the bottom of the boxes will be baggied. If you see any issues you care to address prior to me wrapping and boxing them up speak them NOW. I'll be wrapping them tonight around 9ish (CST) and I'll take pictures of them before being boxed and after, so you can see that I will be shipping properly. I will be shiping priority signature and I'll make sure to write 9B instead of 9b.
I'll be back later to check my PM's and I'll wrap these up tonight. I sent GoFenris a copy of this message for posterity.

Really?
Can you find the differences?
If you cannot make them out in the pic below please check my gallery for closeup shots.
I have added the pics of recieved tyranids to my gallery as well.

I can see at least twelve models that have been changed. All the crisis suits, and most of the stealth suits have been modified. He could not find the crisis suit arms because he glued them onto a stealth suit. The broadside conversion was completely disassembled, all the bits to use for the conversion are missing. I am missing the CIB arm From the silver shas’o. The remaining pathfinders were also modified. As well as all the vehicle weapon sprues were assembled, or cut off the sprue.

Zid wrote:YOU made the offer, if the value was off that was YOUR choice.
The rest of the army was about equal price wise
.

As to the points cost :

2 x FOC
3x shaso (basic upgrades, all kit included)= 300
1x ethereal =50 (no upgrades)
4x crisis (basic upgrades, all kit included)=160
19x stealth suit (basic upgrades)=760
55x fire warrior (basic upgrades)=625
40x kroot (no upgrades)=280
2x shapers=50
3x devilfish (basic upgrades) =290
2x broadside( converted, but all kit included)=140
3x hammerheads (railguns burst cannon) 450
35x gun drone=350
3x vespid+strain leader=75
4x Piranha=240(no upgrades)
Total=3770
This is with minimum upgrades.

Considering I would take a markerlight and Marker drone in each fire warrior squad and in each stealth suit squad, As well as 2 seeker missles on each vehicle. And spend more points on the Shas’os. I never used all the models to play at 4000 pts.

Yet in a PM.

You did not state you were sending parcel until after you shipped.

Sure enough

Your decision to save $2 cost me a $22 codex.

You have lied several times throughout our trade and on this post as well.
Before you make statements you should assure their validity.

As well as missing parts, and damaged codex, modifications have been made to the army, mostly due to the fact that you traded my army before our trade was complete.
I am out about $70 dollars in shipping on this trade through no fault of my own.

As to the damaged codex:

I did not receive the package on Wednesday as you believe. You did not send Signature Service as you stated that you would.

Luckily one of my neighbors was nice enough to take my package out of the rain..
I received it Thursday morning.

Although I have received my army back, I would still seriously caution any other user considering trading with Zid, to be INCREDIBLY specific while dealing with him.
