Yeah great..consolodate all the US GDs...but why the Canadian one? So we lose ours and have to fly to the USA, so it's even more costly and more useless for us since they stopped showing off future models, etc.
Maybe if it was in a FUN city like Los Angeles, Las Vegas, or something....sure..then wife and I could go clubbing after, party, etc....but Baltimore? yeah..no thanks.
Since I'm more of a painter anyways, guess no more Golden Demons for me...

I'd rather see one good GD -- wherever it is -- rather than two or more mediocre ones.
Let's give the events guys a break here -- not everything that happened to the GDs this year was under their control.

There are certainly some good reasons for people to be skeptical about Games Day after the 2009 events. If I had to travel far for it I would be especially wary and would want to make certain I knew what to expect before committing to a long, expensive trip.
Being lucky enough to be close to the Games Day event in Maryland I'm looking forward to seeing what improvements will be made in 2010. It can only go up from the 2009 event. In fact, I'll likely be assisting in finishing some of the scenery that will be needed for the event. It should be fun.

I have to agree with a previous post that addresses the fact that North America is getting only a single Games Day while Europe is getting 3-4, despite the fact that North American is more than twice as large by land mass.
I mean, being in Spain and going to a GD in France is similar to being in Georgia and going to a GD in Florida.
Now, if you're in Los Angeles and want to go to the Baltimore GD, that's comparable to going to the GD in England from such wonderfully nearby places as Freetown, Sierra Leone; Khartoum, Sudan; or Mecca, Saudi Arabia. (Ironically, there are places on the East Coast of the USA that are closer to London than they are to Los Angeles.)

Yea I did find it kind of funny the only people not complaining about the single GD was the people who lived near Baltimore.
I only ever went to the GD out here in LA, and enjoyed them for a few reasons, mostly the bitz store, the mega battles, the preview models, and the cool GD only stuff like the shirts and free models. If that stuff is gone, and not even remotely close to my area, there is no point.
And the Vegas convention hall in not only way to big, but way to expensive for GW. Never going to happen.

I am in favor of it and I don't live in Baltimore. Seriously, the last couple LA Gamesdays weren't worth attending.
I may end up going after all, the wife wants to visit the East Coast and stop in Baltimore to see Charm City Cakes (of Ace of Cakes fame) and we may time it to line up with Games Day.
EDIT: Oh and there are a ton of convention halls in Las Vegas, not just the big one. GW could probably afford some of the smaller ones in MGM, Mandalay Bay, Sands Expo center, etc.

The last few LA days, no, I did not go to, as I was not only on a break from the hobby, but tended to forget when it was.
Having never been to Baltimore can their hall really be that big? I recall a post earlier in the thread that said back in the day, when the Baltimore GD was the only one, it was packed to tight you coulnt move. Yea, thats what I want. Another E3 with less excitement.
But honestly, if they still had the same stuff that the older GD had here in LA, Id say it was worth it. But if not, whats the point?
Also I hate Vegas, so Id do anything to not go there.

Well, not to sound insulting to the people who do live in Baltimore, but I have been there and I really can't think of a lot of reasons to go back. There's no way I would travel all the way there for a single day gaming event, and there just isn't anything else up there I wanna see.

Hell I live in Baltimore county and I don't go into Baltimore city unless it's to visit the aquarium. That city is a dump.
If you're a fan of aquariums though the one in Baltimore is easily in the top 5 for the whole nation...but that's about the best thing I can say about the whole city.
I haven't been to a Games Day is many years, and I won't be attending next year unless I hear very good things, GW isn't getting my money until they prove they can get their crap together.

I'm saying it.
Look, you guys can b*tch and moan all you want. It's not going to change the fact that their resources are a lot more limited than they used to be. And I think you'll soon see that's the way it's going to be for the foreseeable future. So yes, I agree with the marketing strategy of putting the money into one good event rather than spread it across two or more.
GW has put the ball in our court. If you want more events, your choices are 1) start your own, or 2) support your local indy events. Short of sending out press releases to that effect, I don't know how GW can make this any clearer.

The thing is, how are we to KNOW that GD Baltimore WILL, in fact be GOOD ? GWs promises carry little weight these days but we're expected to descend on their site like ravening hordes to scoop up the limited tickets now, before we have any concrete information on Games Day ??
I do agree that more fan-coordinated events would be great. I've wanted to go to Adepticon for years and 2010 may be the one.

This is completely off topic from the topic I started here, but assuming money, travel time, travel methods, passports, etc. were not issues at all and completely regardless of Games Workshop or any other hobby, who wouldn't rather go to London than Baltimore!?! Hilarious. But seriously folks, I've been to every Games Day held in Baltimore and it really was massive when it was the only US Games Day. It's just a shame we can't go back to having a 2-day event, but hopefully the one day will be great like the "good old days".

I have been to many Games Days (only one as a player) and I fell this is a good move. When it was a 2 day event in Balimore it was great. The one went to in the Uk was cool but only one day. Having all the best in one place is nice, however I would have picked a spot in the middle like Chicago so it's easier for both coasts. However I understand picking Baltimore, that's where everything is coming from and shipping/moving all the stuff would be costly. The quality of the event did go down as they added more events. That being said it made it more accessible and so very skilled players/painters could go without flying cross country. Until this GD takes place and we see what happens no one can tell if this is a good move or just a really bad move that will be changed back to having 3+ GD in the U.S. As always I will try to make it but if I don't it's not that big a deal to me. meh. I might go. I haven't been to a GD in something like 10 years.
Would I play a game there? hell no. However, there's a pretty good chance they'll have the bits bins there I think. So that could be worth the price of admission.
Plus a good selection of FW right there.
I'd look at it like I look at any Gaming Convention style event. It's a vacation day and a shopping trip. And then a party at a nice restaurant afterwards. Automatically Appended Next Post: Blackmoor wrote:Cruentus wrote:

They haven't sold bits out of bins at Games Day in years. They also no longer sell bits the way they used to by Direct Order. The old "bitz" system was replaced with the "bitz pack" system about two years ago.

actually all models are made in memphis at their factory there ergo the shipping is pretty much the same whichever way you cut the dice. Also the chicago bunker is the highest in sales for the country for many years running so it would have made even MORE sense to put it there in the middle of the country.

All the key support staff and the new scenery being built for Games Day US 2010 are in Baltimore at the HQ, not in Chicago. What's more, when there was only one Games Day US in Baltimore, attendance was extremely high, people did travel from all over to come to those events. It is unlikely to hurt attendance having it in Baltimore over Chicago. The community in the Maryland area has been developing since GW started in the US as HQ has always been there and GW has always had stores there when they've had stores in the US. The Baltimore Battle Bunker's sales are only exceeded by the Chicago Bunker. Games Day in Baltimore will be packed just as it was years ago so long as the negative fall-out from the 2009 Games Day doesn't keep too many people away. Regarding manufacturing, all US manufacturing is in Memphis now, but not everything sold in the US is made there. Some product is still imported from the UK.
