It's no biggie. I just thought maybe you saw something that I didn't intend. Anyhow, it's all good, no big deal.

The problem with trying to sell an entire set of 8-rated items is that:
- 8-rated items are expensive, and you're selling alot of them
- there aren't a lot of buyers with that much cash
- the Chinese painters being fronted out of Hong Kong can throw more than twice as many hours at it as you can. And they do this for a living.
- the local guys in the store painting for fun & learning don't have to support themselves, so $5/hr net is plenty good.
So I wouldn't bother trying to price it on an hourly basis.

If I were still painting minis for pay, it'd take me 3 weeks of evenings to finish the set to a CMoN 7, about 100 hours total. I would expect at least $400 payment for this, which is again in line with the $600 commercial rate for the painted set after you consider the foam packing, given that the game itself is $100.

I think that $500-600 is probably a fair price for a custom commissioned, hand-painted set of Space Hulk. Converting that into an hourly rate is hard, because most likely, the Termies and Stealers were assembly-lined and then detailed.

Hope this helps.

agreed. Honestly, were i to do it over again, I think I would buy a hong kong set, tell them not to varnish and then finish them myself. I dont mind the time it takes all that much (although this will be the largest amount i ever attacked at once), but those first layers are mind numbing... i'd be willing to shell out out for cheating the first half lol...

p.s fortunately have drafted my wife into the first coat layers, i traded her my silence and company while she watches her god forsaken dancing shows... usually i threaten to burn the house down with us in it

First off, good on you for getting back in.

If you're painting at Eavy Metal / CMoN 8+, then submit the pics and give us the links. If they're really 8+, we'll see that soon enough.

lol, the pics are 2 posts up bud -

I have written 3 times that I am not looking to sell anything, just used my current project as an example... This thread was just to see what you guys thought about the mini market and the going rates... for me, the stuff on ebay that is 'pro painted' is usually barely tabletop.

That, and being 30 now, time is a premium for me with career wife, I was just a little surprised at how cheap some painted minis were... especially for armies... usually it is cheaper to buy the painted armies than to buy new! I kinda figure at worst they have their first layers on, could save time to build from there lol.

Take a look at the price of historical painted armies. They are not cheaper than the figures alone.

The difference with GW is the original models are very expensive, and lots of secondhand stuff done by mediocre painters makes its way onto the market.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.
