For the June tournament I'm strongly considering extending this RTT to a 4th round. We would shave 15 minutes off the rounds to help compensate for time, reducing them from 2 hours to 1:45.

So far very few matches have gone to time at 1500 points and the vast majority are ending early. This leads me to believe a 2 hour round is not a necessity. With the round time reduced, a 4 round RTT would take approximately 8 hours including lunch and breaks instead of the current 7.

The reason for adding the 4th round is to reduce the number of ties in the final standings. Generally, in Swiss Pairings a 4th round is recommended when you have a pool of more than 8 players. That's the impetus for this idea: It would better help us clearly define a winner at the end of the tournament. It also lets us get in more games of 40k against different opponents.

Of course, we are certainly capable of defining a winner with 3 rounds. There is nothing wrong with tiebreakers and 4 rounds of Swiss is no guarantee they are removed entirely. So this change is a consideration only. It is hardly a requirement.

Since the people already in this thread are the kind of competitive players this RTT is aimed at does this idea sound interesting to you guys? Would you be more or less likely to play in this RTT with an additional round added? Is that simply too much 40k for one day? Please let me know your opinion on this idea.

I was actually thinking about how nice it would have been if we had had another round. Of course, even then it wouldn't necessarily found a winner.

One thing that may help in that regard is 4-2-1 scoring (or 3-1-0) for a win/draw/loss as default, instead of just as one of the tiebreaker formulas.

Of course, if does go shorter, that also increases the likelihood of me playing a 20ish model army. I am not the worlds fastest player.

More games? Why yes, I like more games! I had plenty of time after my games. 1:45 wouldn't be a problem for me. 4 rounds of swiss should be ample for 12 people, and it would make our 1500 point games a more unique thing. 4 game tourneys at 1500 might be something that catches on. And it might take more people away from weighted battle point scoring, which is, of course, the devil.

4 rounds at 1500 shouldn't be a problem. I find 1500 games to play a LOT faster than 2K.

As much as I think 1500 is for skirt wearing commies, it does play a lot faster. It is a nice change of pace from 2K, which is what the gods intended 40K to be played at!

When we have a weekend to play games, 6 2k games would be ideal. But when we are stuck with just one day to play. i think getting 4 games in is more important than having the big time army sizes.

Think of 1500 as an interesting alternate format for 40k. some units get better and some get worse.

We already use 1/.5/0 scoring.

But you're right a 4th round wouldn't necessarily change anything all the time but would likely result in less tiebreakers. It also gives people a chance if they happen to drop a game to make up for that in a later round.
