I definitely thought the kans would serve to be a better source of first line defense, so that the rest of his boys can counter assault the next turn. I thought the opponent actually didnt play very well.
He explained that earlier - my deffrollas (x3) would have had free access to his kans. He deployed the way he did because he wanted to be able to countercharge me.

Yes, you would expect that to happen. But his lootas will definitely get side shots on your wagon (assuming he knows how to deploy the lootas), wreck it, and charge your contents. 15 + 15 Lootas on AV12 open top will have a high chance of wrecking or exploding it. If he doesnt, it's just tough luck. Anyhow, it is definitely better than what had actually happened.

Re-read the thread. I did deploy my Lootas out to the flanks to get shots on his BW's. But again, rolled poorly on those turns and didn't do much with them, luck happens I guess. I still think putting the Kans in front would have hurt more than help.
Can you explain why you think that would have been a better move?

In that case, his battlewagon rolling into your kans would have given you a 2nd chance to get side shots at his wagons. Getting rid of his transport will help alot in you stealing back the initiative from him.
All you all, you will have had to sacrifice a unit. But I would have chosen the kans. Also, I don't think you need to sacrifice all 9 kans, 6 might have done the job.
Btw, I dont think you can place the flamer templates from the deff rollas? Are deff rollas part of the main hull?

Primarch did get side shots on my wagons. There were buildings in the way that blocked his LOS for a few Lootas, and my own Lootas were tearing back into hit Lootas - so he didn't have full Loota squads by the time my battlewagons crossed the field.
The shots he did take whiffed, or I got KFF saves against.
And you've got to understand that there's a lot that goes on in deployment and the game that can't be second-guessed during the game. I didn't get a good field of pictures this game because we were constrained on time, but turn1, he didn't have side armor opportunities. \|/ works wonders, if the center is a bit back. Basically front armor to the whole field. Turn2 was much the same - he had obstructed view, and I intentionally was aiming for that - and I presented front armor on a battlewagon to his left Loota squad (which in turn protected the battlewagon in the middle), and the Lootas on the right whiffed against their battlewagon. Some games your dice are hot, and some they aren't - he stole the initiative and on turn 1 rolled 45 shots each with his Lootas, which got used to kill deffkoptas because he had nothing else to really shoot at (except my Lootas) but the deffkoptas were a bigger threat. I'm pretty sure that he rolled 1-2 shots the rest of the game, and my nobs jumping on his Lootas turn4 didn't help.
I think Clay is a great player - perhaps a bit rough around the edges, but that's a personal quirk, and I've seen much worse. We all *are* an eclectic community. Automatically Appended Next Post: striderx wrote:

There's a gigantic thread over in YMDC about this - feel free to head over there and read it. Not counting a deff rolla as hull (and subsequently measuring to and from it) breaks a lot of things in the game, and is a far worse alternative than counting it as the hull.

I didnt expect him to get side shots on your wagon at a distance away. But if you were to deff rolla into his kans, it would definitely be a good opportunity for him to get side shots on your wagons - which is why it is not a bad idea to use 6 kans asa first wall of defense.
Quite surprise on the part about deff rolla being hull though. I still thought it is abit unfair.
Also, wouldnt this mean a longer side for the battle wagon?

It's animated alright. Just for 2-3 seconds and then it stays on the 6 forever, even if I reload the page. I have to open it anew to catch it.

Eh, agree to disagree I guess. I thought he said I played badly, then said I should put my Kans out front to screen my boys. Which would have allowed the DRs to roll over them and wipe them out in around a single turn or so.
Maybe he could have worded it differently, and I am sure I could have reacted differently.

I take kombi-rokkits with ammo runts so that the BS2 gets a chance to do something.
My games didn't actually present me much opportunity to use those kombi-rokkits. They dealt a couple wounds to Bloodthirster in the first game. The second game they might have killed a bodyguard. Third game...don't think they did anything.
Those kombi-rokkits are there so that I can pop a rhino before assaulting it - or to soften something up (like a Bloodthirster) before assaulting into it. I'm not worried that they didn't do anything here - my army is intended to have an answer for everything, and I have answers for things in a game that aren't present. Burnas are a good example - people keep telling me that I should cut down my burnas. Some games, they don't deliver massive overkill. They're not there to wtfpwn everyone - they're primarily there so that I can answer Tyranid armies, and when they make up their points in other games, I'm grateful.
