I started one, though it was cancelled because I am DMing the current d&d campaign, too much for me.

Terrific campaign report! This is the type of thing my friend and I want to do eventually, once we've figured out all the rules! If only we all had teachers like this. The idea of kill team games has appealed to us since we started playing and putting it into a campaign is a great idea. We're glad to have a copy of 4th ed. rules with the kill team details.
Keep up with the updates, looking forward to seeing how it all plays out.

++ Surprise attack:
Following intense and bloody fighting In recent days, the bulk of the Ork advance had split the main Imperial defensive line, pushing through the gap and driving toward the heart of the city.
Only an Ultramarine Counter-offensive led by Cpt. Sicarius and the 2nd Company managed to halt the rampaging greenskin horde.
In the battle the Warboss known as Da' Butcha and his personal bodyguard of nobz and Battle Wagons was ambushed and decimated, but the Warboss managed to fall back towards ork lines in the confusion.
Sicarius' own forces had also suffered substantial depletion, but he saw a window of opportunity to pursue the Warboss and eliminate him:
Scouts had reported that the Warboss had not gone far, and had rallied a small number of Orks at an ammo dump a short distance away.
IG commanders thought it best to hold off until sufficient Cadian forces could be mustered to assist Sicarius, but Sicarius felt waiting would allow the Warboss to escape or rally his own forces, and that haste would prove vital to success.
Forming a small mechanized detachment from Ultramarine assets immediately available, Sicarius quickly moved to strike at the Warboss...
This was an 1175pt. campaign game that we played this weekend. We played the "Cut & Run" Ork mission from Battle Missions. We had intended to do a more detailed report with more pics, but technological difficulties meant the loss of a bunch of pics, so I'll do my best to get something interesting down at least for the sake of the narrative.
The Marines had Sicarius w/ cmd. squad, 2 tact, squads w/ rhinos, land raider w/ Chronus (Sicarius made one tact. squad "tank hunters")
The Orks had some boyz, some tank bustsas, some kans, a few looted wagons, a wartrak, and the Warboss "Da' Butcha Uv Bavgad" (counts as Ghazkull)
Ultramarines mechanized detachment led by Chronus and Sicarius approaches the Ork ammo dump:
Ultramarines steal the initiative thanks to Sicarius and launch their attack.
Pushing hard into the square the Landraider under the command of Chronus (and carrying Sicarius and command squad) destroys a looted wagon:
Combat squads deployed in buildings on the outskirts pepper the orks with lascannon and Heavy bolter fire, initially destroying a trukk, and a few orks:
Sicarius and his cmd. squad disembark with the target in sight:
Chronus directs fire from atop his Land Raider as the orks quickly begin to overrun it:
All hell breaks loose:
Sicarius and his command squad disembark and push hard at the Orks, the Warboss in sight only a short distance away.
Rhino born combat squads move in to assist, one of them disembarking to destroy a flanking wartrakk. The other is forced to disembark after there Rhino gets immobilized in the rubble and they are totally vaporized by a direct hit from a Boom Gun!!!
Though initially the marines inflicted some good casualties and had a 5 to 1 KP lead, A string of bad dice at crucial times swung the tide so that at the end of turn five the game was tied 7KP all.
Sicarius and the landraider fell to the numerous power klaws of the kans and mega nobz in a massive and bloody melee in the center that decided the battle...
Chronus was left to face an onslaught of oncoming ork boyz and kans while being peppered with volleys of rokkits from the entrenched TanKk Bustas. Most bounced off the Hull of his tank, as did three Bomb Squigs as he attempted to perform a fighting withdrawal to stay out of assault range, but a lucky rocket immobilized the Land Raider and it was eventually overrun by the kans and torn asunder.
Chronus survived the explosion, and fell back toward the combat squads providing covering fire, the lascannon keeping the few remaining Kans at bay.
The game ended after turn six with the Orks winning by two KP, and the Ultramarine commander wondering what went wrong?!?
In the end we decided he had perhaps been a little too aggressive too early and taken too big of a risk getting so close to so many power klaws. Plans are to try to soften the orks up a little more next time before closing the distance, and work on threat recognition and coordinating fire to eliminate biggest/most immediate threats ...
The surviving Orks had little time to gloat despite the human carnage and burning wrecks around them.
Within minutes after the last of the Ultramarines had fallen back into the smokey gloom of the city, the roar of Thunderhawk engines overhead heralded the arrival of enemy airborne reinforcements.
The marines had come in force to recover Sicarius dead or alive, diverted from other engagements by a priority distress signal sent by Chronus.
The amount of firepower unleashed by the Marine flying machines erupting all around him brought first a crooked smile to face of the Warboss, a smile that quickly turned to a scowl as he bellowed at the encircling war engines in defiance:
His boyz diverted his attention as they informed him that they had located a means of escape: an entrance to some sort of tunnel system below the streets close by.
With one last howl skyward the Warboss clanked heavily toward the tunnel entrance, his mega armour deflecting a number of heavy bolter shots before the darkness of the tunnels consumed him and made good his escape...
A short time later after the Ultramarines had secured the battle site, Sicarius was recovered , badly injured, and just alive.
He would recover, but his injuries would keep him from the action for some time, and his failure at eliminating the Warboss would be a wound that would linger long after his physical injuries had healed...

Love the terrain.
The mission is "Cut & Run" from Battle Missions. In it the Orks must deploy first and may do so anywhere in their half of the table, and must be a minumum of 12" from their own table edge.
The opponent then deploys in his half no closer then 12" to the center line.
We started 24" apart for the most part, though the angle of the pic does make it seem less...

That is my " huge Squig" named "Chompa". He is a mutant gnasha/attack squig that is the pet of my Warboss.
I usually field him as a "counts as nob" w/ eavy armour and a P. klaw (to represent his nasty bite and ferocious temper) in whatever squad my warboss is joined/leading.
Here is a pic of him in a WIP "squig pen":
he is a bashed together out of the rear quarters of a toy dinosaur with a face/teeth sculpted (not my forte) from greenstuff, and a few other orky bits/glyph plates added.
He was originally going to be used as a mount for a goblin general for a WHFB army I had planned, but that project never got off the ground...
he adds a little character/individuality to my army and warboss me thinks...
C&C welcome...

Wow Great Battle reports, and I must say your terrain + conversions + painting is amazing, seeing it all on the table like that looks as good or maybe better than any whitedwarf battle report even if they have superb camera tech.
The Battle scenarios and reports where very fun to read and also very fluffy, my fav was the IG platoon with the mine field game, It felt very much like a spread to thin IG army told to hold a section of wall at all costs., the mine field and gun emplacements really added the extra effect to make it feel like a real wall defense battle.
Lastly I am very glad to read and see the friendly 40k campaign being written out and planed so fluffily with less regard to rules and more regard to fun and story. My 40k group has slowly moved from having campaigns with story to just tournament lists and battles just to rack up wins, and while competitive games are fun I miss good old campaigns like this.
I remember years ago when my steel legion threw themselves repeatedly against a city controlled by necrons and kept getting pushed out, but I was able to tie up the necrons long enough for some SM armys to come and save me and the city, tho the campaign ended up with Chaos winning lol.
