While I realize these are not ideal, but between Dakka swap and eBay, you can still have at least 2K of any army you want, so not bad.

I will just ask to hold off for the next new 40k release. Whether its Dark Eldar or Inquisition wouldn't matter and I know that they are going to be severly limited in range but that would help me get started in either army.

It actually felt like they just gave me ~the smallest number of kits that would make up the points. Chimeras are a lot cheaper in points than Russes.

I can only imagine how much a foot guard force actually costs.
Reminds me of that 300 army I was going to make. Which amusingly would probably work with Straken nowadays. I did end up using the prototypes to make a Spartan veteran squad for my sisters.

I wonder if you have to claim the prize right away. If someone wanted DE or Inquisition and they are next in line for a new codex I could see winners wanting to keep their prize in a holding pattern until the new army comes out. My foot guard wasn't that expensive, but I converted 100 WHFB zombies into guardsmen. I then has buyers remorse as I realized that food guard just isn't my play style, and skaven would have looked even better as a conversion project.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

I know I wouldn't, but if I got to choose I would pick 2500 points of space marine terminators. But as it is I would pick chaos space marines.
