Poor Aussies. They always get abused by the gaming industry in general.

Even more than Europe does.

Ya know, GW blames this kind of thing on the predominance of eBay sales and all the discounters out there, etc.

Have they not realized that the reason people buy stuff second hand or from discount stores instead of directly from GW is because they do stupid gak like this and jack prices up to the point that its unaffordable?

As more and more people buy abroad, GW needs to further increase local prices to compensate for the reduced sales volume to maintain revenue...

What?

Discounters were "blamed" by GW when they shifted from allowing trade accounts to every webstore that had no brick & mortar storefront and was able to severely undercut B&Ms discounts.

People buy from discount stores or eBay because they're cheap. GW could price things exactly the same as Warmachine and people would *still* bitch that GW's overpricing things.

This regular cycle of price rises and price inconsistencies boggles my mind. Is GW trying to sink their own ship?

I must be missing something though. Do these moves make sense to people within the industry or to people who have similar business models of manufacture, whole sale and retail to a global market?

They really aren't any different to other shareholder controlled companies. It's just that nerds with more free time than common sense feel the urge to complain.

LOL.

--The whole concept of government granted and government regulated 'permits' and the accompanying government mandate for government approved firearms 'training' prior to being blessed by government with the privilege to carry arms in a government approved and regulated manner, flies directly in the face of the fundamental right to keep and bear arms.

GW holds a total monopoly over their respective games thats the difference

Two corporations that each produce the same product will hesitate to raise prices because then people will buy from the competitor

Yeah you can go play warmachine (which is totally diferent), but you've already invested so much time and money into warhammer..

Luckily you can use your old models to play without buying more.

When shareholders demand more profits the executives must abuse either A) customers or B) employees.. (usually employees first).. The executives themselves never suffer reduced pay or anything.

GW has already flogged their employes to the limit.. We're next

GW has used decreased profits due to increased ebay/discounter sales as an excuse to justify the increased price of their products before.

And PP's prices really are no better than GW's though. The only real difference is that you, on average, need less of PP's product to put you in the same "area" as GW.

GW is a monopoly. They just keep raising prices because there's no serious competition for them. PP is comparatively priced, especially if you're more of a collector (get a bit of everything) than a hardcore gamer who builds one or two lists and that's it.

If I played Warhammer, I'd be looking at Mantic Games. Ah, if only they made a line of Futuristic Genome-enchanced Warriors or Orcs with Guns.

I heard that Jervis said he was going to really stick it to Australia because "that HBMC guy keeps making fun at me, it really hurts my feelings. I hope that I raise prices enough that he quits the hobby."

This Means War, by Australia's greatest export, the brothers Young and AC/DC. I don't think they care that GW is raising prices. Angus is too busy painting cigarette packs, and Brian Johnson is racing hotrods.

(You get your head down, will you)
I
I want you
I want you to
I want you to march
Eyes go right, shoulder arms
Left wheel turn, show your charms
Change your clothes, cut your hair
Ain't no joke, ain't no place for kids
When the flags are high, hear the battle cry
Treaty gone, see the bandit fly
Dig that trench, watch the blast
Shell shock come, coming fast
Name and rank on parade
Might get laid by a hand grenade
Do you know what this means?
Do you know what this means?
This - means - war
This means war, this means war
I said this means war, this means war
This means war

(Run for cover, hit the deck, call for your mother)
I
I need you
I need you to
I need you to fire
Cock your gun, wet your sights
Get the bull dead to rights
Volunteers, one pace back
On the beach ain't no place for kids
When the flack is high on a bomber run
You don't talk back to an ack-ack gun
Fire range, and you're in the blitz
Keep your head or you're blown to bits
Name and rank on parade
Might get laid by a hand grenade
Do you know what it means?
Do you know what it means?
This - means - war
Who's going there, is it a friend or foe?
Propaganda time on the radio
Top brass shout as they clown around
Peace talks die in Geneva town
Do you know what it means? (This means war)
Do you know what it means? (This means war)
Do you know what it means? (This means war)
Do you know what it means? (This means)
This - means - war
This means war
I said this means war, this means war
This means war
(Where's the second gun?)
This means war,
I told you before, this means war
You know the score, said this means war
This means war
This-means-war
You're all dead

I'm fine with this policy, the more GW goes down this path the more other companies like Wargames Factory will prosper and I can get my sweet sweet 120 figures for 120 bux deals.

Of course, murphy's law dictates that as soon as WGF gets successful they'll start raising their prices.

I occasionally still buy GW stuff here, because I feel a little bad. Not anymore though.
There is only ONE store within 200km/100miles of where I live that sells other wargames. I bought from them to support them a little. They still don't have gaming tables. And I'm lucky, living in the CBD - in the state of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_Australia, there are less than 5 wargames stores outside the capital CBD. WA is approximately the size of the western third of the US: Montana, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and California COMBINED.

HBMC is right about other games companies here as well. I've seen a few other company's miniatures in blisters, but never actually seen a painted one. All knowledge I have of other companies stems from this forum.

Just thought I might post some other comparisons of the Aussie dollar as well. A 600ml coke (20 fl oz) is $3-$4.
A Cheeseburger meal $5. Most 14-16yr olds will be making between $8-$12 per hour. A movie ticket is ~$15. At the moment I am renting a house about 15 mins from the (tiny) CBD of my state, and that is costing $400pw for a 3x1 place; although people in sydney would probably be paying twice as much for the same kind of place.

So, good game, GW. Maelstrom will take all my money now

Jesus Kan, you keepin' score or something? How long ago was that?

And we were making fun of Jervis's use of his son as an example to explain his reasoning for... whatever it was at the time. Can't remember the exact details now... might've been about the pictures in the wargear section... or the presence of the wargear section, anyway, doesn't matter now.

Aww H. Without me to attack in the 40k minis section of the site your day wouldn't be complete. Not sure if I should feel giddy with glee at your obsession with attacking me or scared?

I don't apologize for GW, contrary to what you think. I don't like all their choices they've made (Eldar SC nerf, the 3.5 CSM codex and the entirety of the 3rd ed. rules set). An apologist would find no fault with them at all. Try again though, it's hilarious watching you trip yourself up.

Well you all DO know that buying from Maelstrom is still buying from GW right? They actually make MORE profit per unit that way than a product from a store, but what you ARE doing is hurting their stores' sales and thus their profitability (if that word can even be used to describe their store operations! more like sales subsidised walk-in marketing...)

They should look at the FOW company's business model, they are INCLUSIVE of other companies (they bought Wargames Illustrated and have a dedicated FOW section, but most of the mag is still other people's stuff) and you don't see THEIR sales suffering. Oh and said mag makes money too unlike WD.

I hate to say this especially to GW staffers, but wholly owned and operated GW stores are what's bleeding the profit margins. Yes the increased sales from store openings look great, but its more than offset by the costs involved. I work in retail and have been for 7 years now at various stores selling various things and know what the costs and margins are. I dare say I did a stint at GW a long time ago...It doesn't quite pay the rent and wages most of the time.

Partner up with well established indies and do a preferential sales and marketing deal, buy shelf space and install well trained staff who are there to promote like promoters in department stores who also perform light general duties. This will cut payroll and overheads and of course, only THE best GW staff will be put into these challenging positions and thus improve customer interaction.

Pull prices back down to reasonable levels. slow down on the release of plastics if the molds are costing you so damn much and do MORE releases of updated models for all races even in metal.

Move production to India or something to further cut down on manufacturing costs. Don't outsource, set up your own shop so you maintain QC. UK based staff will just have to move on I suppose or some may be offered supervisory roles in the new Indian/Asian factories.

Put the human capital where it counts, DESIGN. Games design and figure design. Pay those folks well and be more open to community talent. Be a games company for gamers again. They should also not neglect their other IPs such as the specialist games which can be updated, repacked and sold through other channels.

There is so much they can do to make more money and please gamers/hobbyists at the same time yet all they seem to be able to come up with are lame rehashed plastics for IG (wasted wasted opportunity), worsening value for money and ludicrously disproportionate price adjustments and a little red book of justifications. Price of oil, import taxes, costs of cardboard, labour costs, general costs, premium product, its a luxury hobby, you get more purity seals, plastic is better than metal so it costs the same or more eventhough we said plastics will bring down or at least keep prices in check for longer...
