Regarding this whole "Ultramarines are the best, even the fluff says so" nonsense, I give you; Chapter 666. The Grey Knights. One average marine versus one average Grey Knight is almost pointless.

I think I missed the part where Ultramarines are the founding legion.. I thought they were all founded.. at like the same time by the primarchs at the end. Just because Ultramarines obeyed and broke up first doesn't make them the first or bestest.

Grey Knights. Their fluff actually says outright that they're the best.

if we are going by actual chapter's i'd have to say the Exorcists simply do to their awesome backround and training methods. now if we are going by chapters people have made up as well as actual chapters backed up in cannon i'll have to say The Bearer's of the Light

this is why my Bearers of the Light are based off the Templars though with slight modifications, namely basic troops being I 3 but S 5 lol

No, the arrogance is thinking that Black Templar are somehow the only ones that do that. They aren't, and never were.

Quite a few chapters are constantly crusading, and it's not always a good thing-- just because the Black Templar "conquer" a world doesn't mean anything without the Imperium's support (the Black Templar cannot populate a world, nor can they convert the civilian population to the imperial creed, nor can they defend the world as well as the Guard can, nor can they keep order on a world truly wishing to resist, etc).

Actually, the Codex confirms that there's at least 7000.

You need to reread your codex. I can tell you right now looking at it that it doesn't.

I voted for Ultramarines.... because I feel in the 40k universe they are the "best" as in follows Codex, battle honors, non-genetic deviation, etc.

My Favorite chapter is Blood Ravens, a Librarian heavy army, whole combat squads of Librarians?! Yes please! I just hope that eventually there will be some sort of official rule for this.

The reason? They don't follow the Codex Astartes. The Grey Knights have something like 3000 men and the Space Wolves are known to have more than 1000, putting them at massive advantages to the other chapters due to pure manpower. Also the Grey Knights are have strong links to the inquisition so if you fought them they would declare you excomunicae traetoratus (sp) and you would burn .

IH don't follow the codex either, this makes them cool, as well as really tough to write a fluffy list for.

To all non codex brothers, respect, Gillyman's book sucks (and says nothing about deamons!)

and? templars are 6000, and a few other chapters have a good 2000. numbers matter not, it's how you use them
