Here is a preview of the Chaos Cultists, these guys are going to represent the "Frateris Militia" (Religious pilgrims to Vraks roped into the war), worker conscripts, and released criminals, etc.-in other words, the cannon fodder of the Vraksian Military.

On a side note, I have been reading up quite a bit regarding the state of the R&H list as it stands in the current 8E. So, it seems that the old Vraks R&H lists this army was intended to be based on is pretty much defunct/arguably worthless. I have skimmed the R&H list in the FW Astra Militarum Index, but I am still somewhat at a loss for the direction I should go with building this army.
I am certain that I want to make two "factions" one of regular traitor guard alongside Word Bearers (Using the Dark Vengeance models), and another of Nurgle guard alongside Death Guard (using Dark Imperium as a base). I hardly game, but would like to make my collection competitive. Does anyone have advice ?

As I am currently stuck with the Renegades and Heretics army, I decided to simply proceed with the Nurgle faction of the Vraks campaign. I picked up Dark Imperium, which I must say is GW's most impressive boxed set yet IMO, so I'll be making poxwalkers for awhile. The next decision is whether I should paint the Plague Marines as The Tainted and pick up Mamon, or as the Apostles of Contagion and pick up Necrosius as their leader. I am saving the Primaris Marines for now, but eventually somewhere down the road with this project I intend to paint them up as Red Scorpions.
Any thoughts on the direction of this project are certainly welcome.

I love the siege of Vraks, and am looking forward to seeing what you do with this blog. I don't know anything about 8th edition, so I won't be any help with army lists or tactics. Are you still deciding between Mamon vs Necrosius? I see you have Necrosius listed as a tenative leader, but also have Deacon Mamon. I'm personally a fan of the Daemon Prince Mamon (so much that I sculpted myself one), so from a fluff point of view it would be great to see him in your armies. He reached daemon hood during the siege of Vraks after all

Super stuff.

Vrax is without doubt my favourite 'event' in the 40k canon. The books are excellent and I grew up sort of close to Drax Power Station in England, which I personally believe to be where they got the name from.

The Fall of Kronstaat IV
Война Народная | Voyna Narodnaya | The People's War - 2,765pts painted (updated 06/05/20)
Волшебная Сказка | Volshebnaya Skazka | A Fairy Tale (updated 29/12/19, ep10 - And All That Could Have Been)
Kabal of The Violet Heart (updated 02/02/2020)

All 'crimes' should be treasured if they bring you pleasure somehow.

Thanks for the interest fellas, and I agree Syro, the Mamon Daemon Prince model is great I might have to throw that on one of these lists. The Mamon I listed though was going to be a pre-corrupted version.

Anyway, my Forge World order arrived today which included:
Renegade Psykers
Renegade Ogryn Boss
Renegade Militia Heavy Stubber Team
Renegade Militia Artillary crew
Apostate Preachers of Nurgle (I loved these models)

Here's a quick update of some of the primed Plague Marines and the Foetid Bloat Drone, which I left the 3rd propellor off since I thought it actually looked better that way.

I have not seen one of these forces in quite a while. Good luck with your project. If you do them like your Frateris Militia you should have a very nice force at the end of it.

Cheers,

CB

Ooh. I like the bloat drone without the 3rd propeller. It looks much better without it. More like the blight drone it's undoubtedly based off.

I'll be pinching that idea.

Quick update-Here's a Renegade Militia Chimera I started some time ago and recently finished up. I may add a few more touches such as some rust, what do you guys think?

Aside from the Chimera I will focusing on my Nurgle forces for some time, so prepare for Plaguemarines incoming.

The tank is good looking, but I think it lacks something. It's a little plain (aside form the honking great chaos star). Weathering would be the obvious choice, mud, dust, etc. But I don't actually think it needs any of them. What about some grizzly trophies? Maybe more graffiti to break up the colour a bit.

Current update: So with my new Renegade kits in conjunction with my old salvaged ones, I have enough to make two 10 man milita squads. These are to represent the "vanilla" defenders of Vraks, and will be armed with autoguns, as well as the 2 plasma guns, heavy stubber team, 2 vox, and 1 icon.

Likewise, my salvaged Enforcer bits will likely be utilized to create a 5 man Marauder squad armed with shotguns.

The Cultists will be made using the Chaos Cultists minis along with the new Cawdor sets once I find suitable rebreather heads for them. I am truly hoping that GW re-releases the Redemptionists as they would make killer Disciples of Xaphan, if not I am considering using Solar Auxilia. Ideas and suggestions are certainly welcome. Any thoughts on using hooded skitarii heads on the Cawdor bodies?

Here's some prototype paintjobs of an Apostles of Contagion Marine and a Poxwalker, along with many more Poxwalkers in the works. For some reason I've been having difficulties getting crisp shots of the minis, but nonetheless here they are.

The marine looks good. Nice and grimy.

The yellowy brown armour works well with the brass and metal patches. Only (minor) criticism is the eyes. I don't think they're bright enough to stand out against the rest of the yellow based model.

Won't comment on the plague zombie as (like you said) the photo isn't great.
Other then that though, looking good, mate!

Taking a departure from the Nurgle minis for a bit as I begin work on another aspect of the Siege of Vraks project. These I call "Xaphanite Cultists", and are meant to represent the corrupted religious pilgrims to the Shrine of St. Leonis. Here's a look at the first one:

Those Xaphanite cultists look excellent. A little techy, a little pilgramy. A really good combination of the Crawdor and Skitarii kits.

Also is that just a GSC body on beastman legs? Because they pair up surprisingly well.

Hi Snrub, yep it sure is: a GSC body on ungor legs. I was going through some of my bits and noticed their uncanny compatibility. Needless to say, the next project on this blog will soon be including that.

Hey everyone, long time no see. Believe it or not I have been working on my Vraks project and have some prototypes to show everyone.

Included in the photo (in respective order), are a Vraksian Renegade Militiaman, a Vraksian Enforcer, a prototype of the Disciples of Xaphan, and a Plague Marine which will represent the Tainted warband.

The Xaphanite Cultists look really cool. I’m looking forward to seeing those painted up. The whole renegade militia is looking good. The chaos star graffiti on the Chimera turned out well; it really grabs the eye.
