Wow, I have been out of the loop, but were did Jes Goodwin expressed he's angry?

If I was the lead designer of a secret project and someone at my company leaked the fotos I would be pissed too. Its irrelevant if its toy soldiers or the latest ipod, its someone's life work and that should be respected.

Is all this secrecy really necessary? Well personally I dont think so, but if they decided to keep it secret its their perrogative.

It hasn't been that secret.

Several people saw some of the range over a year ago (at least half a dozen that I know of).
Its just that those of us who are given early access don't post pics or describe items unless told we are allowed to.

GW can clamp down harder.
It just makes them look even stupider when the leaks occur.

The times I met Jes (years ago) he was one of the most approachable and friendliest guys at GW. A real credit to himself, the hobby and the company. He created a huge chunk of GWs background and styles for many of the armies 'looks'.
I find it hard to believe he has been having an enormous hissy fit. If it had of been 3 or 4 months ago, sure he'd be angry, but they are dumping a heap of this stuff in the next few weeks anyway, so honestly, is it that important?

You can argue yes as it gets people excited about the next release, rather than people getting excited six months ago and going 'meh' when the codex comes out

Navarro, you raise some good points, it's just that I'm not inclined to agree with them. If I was leading a project and info got leaked, I guess I would feel a little deflated, but I don't think I'd get mad. I'd probably hit the forums to see what the response to the leaked info was. If people are getting hyped over a single, blurry photo I'd be psyched that they'll freak at the real thing!

And I have that opinion across the board, as you said - whether it's toys or iPods. Go on the HeroClix forums - they have leaked shots on new sculpts. Transformers forums have leaked sculpts. Games forums have leaked screens, sometimes leaked code. Movie forums have leaked photos and videos of production. To somehow expect it no to happen is unrealistic. Especially nowadays with smartphones, 3G, wifi, Twitter and a whole host of other tech right in our pockets. If anything, I think the tighter the GW screws, the more leaks we're going to get. See the "Streisand Effect".

The real meat and potatoes now, is did Jes actually say anything? His sculpts look freaking awesome anyway, that's all we need to worry about

We got the six-month window instituted, previews on the official GW website gone, and the Black Boxes became a privilege rather than something your store is guaranteed to get.

Pretty sure you have no idea what you're talking about here -- i.e., no causal relationship at work. That stuff is usually the domain of marketing, legal, etc., and not miniature design. IIRC, GW got a new head of legal at some point, after which things really tightened up. I believe I heard they have to check their cell phones at the door now. And that's not because Jes said so.

Ahhhh....... actually I did read the thread before posting and unless you didn't know the Gibberish is a generic term in English for talking that sounds like speech, but carries no actual meaning. My post certainly were actual words that when strung together certainly have meaning. Feel free to disagree with me though

Besides if I think Jes Goodwin or even GW are acting like a bunch of spankers then I believe I have the right and ,perhaps more importantly, the ability to express my own opinion on the matter. Never understand why people have such a huge problem with people criticizing artist or companies.

I read everything on Dakka out loud at the top of my lungs, which tends to annoy my co-workers. What you wrote sure sounded meangingless to me. Obviously I'm not grasping the subtle nuances of your "Jes Goodwin is apparently a transvestite and should off" argument.

Critique is commendable but not when it's based on conjecture and unsupported rumours.

I think we should care, just because we should be happy DE are coming out in the first place. we've been waiting 12 years for new models, the least we could do is respect the sculptor's wishes. besides, it's only about 2 days away. Just wait. Why even bother releasing some blurry pics?

Because we have a god-given right to see hobby models as early as possible. People need time to work on their scathing commentaries on sculpt and pose quality.

I believe you are the only one going on about your God given right top see anything...... most people are simply saying it is a little dumb to get worked up over them having been released. If GW should release or not release pictures ahead of time is a different matter.

Wait people are really shocked that pictures have been leaked? This is one of the biggest releases in years, there is no way this is going to be kept quiet. Seriously, Jes goodwin just needs to wait until people get a good look at the models before listening to them. This is a really immature thing to get annoyed about. If he is that worried about what people think give us a good picture so we can see howgood they will be.

As to having respect, it's up to you to choose whether you respect him. If you do by all means keep the pictures to yourself but not everyone agrees. Sure I admire his ability but IMO he is just a guy doing his job so I don't respect him anymore than anyone else. If anyone should be shown respect it's the DE players who have been waiting 12 for new rules and models that aren't being shown anything even when the models could be shown.

Don't blame fans and consumers for GW's horrible and ill-conceived business decisions. GW does Draconian things because they want to. In fact they seem to get a kick out of being obtuse and disrespectful to their fan base any chance they get...

GW likes to do things that it thinks makes itself seem more important and powerful.

You know who else made up stuff to be angry about? A sculpture of Space Hitler. And so, we have reached the point in the thread where Goodwin's law is invoked.

Godwin's Law, and that only states that the longer a thread goes on, the the closer the probability of a comparison to Hitler or Nazis gets to 1. It doesn't actually DO anything to a thread.

Its more likely a form of GW research to get feedback on upcoming ranges. They are not going to release an entire range if nobody likes the look of them. All companies use this technique to generate opinions/interest. What has he really got to be supposedly angry about? We all know that the DE are going to be spiky, where's the big surprise in that?

I love GW's method of not releasing any information about their new releases.

It means I don't have to plan any of my purchases around new releases, which means I have no reason to invest myself in new purchases from GW, saving me hundreds of dollars!

Yes, but this is the internet.

Those people that like the models, or think that we should wait until we see good quality photographs before we pass judgement will likely not be passionate enough to post, and those that do will likely be labelled fanbois.

Those people that don't like the models, and think that judgement should be made on a person's entire career and personality based on blurry, out of focus photos, likely are passionate enough to post, and so the internet descends into a long line of threads based around people going "that blurry bit that I can't see properly by his shoulder looks really out of proportion, Jes Goodwin should never be allowed to sculpt again, and I reckon that he kills puppies as well!"

That is why he, if he is angry (which we don't know) he would have a right to be so.

Yeah, free speech. But it this case neither JG nor GW have said ANYTHING. They aren't acting like spankers. They aren't acting like nice people. Directly: they aren't doing a single thing about this. So you might want to wait to say that they are acting like whatever when they are acting.
