Wait. Wut?
So Anphelion Project takes place -before- the Badab War? Really?

Maybe he keeps being demoted for being tactically unsound? We'll probably find somewhere in IA9 that the Red Scorpions lose/run away again (even though they are on the winning side)

Given the fact that since Anphelion Project is where he's "Commander Culln", and he's been getting promoted in pretty much every book...

Yeah, no. He's not being demoted.

Muchas gracias, notprop - some very cool stuff there. I find the characters with non-traditional weapons very interesting - the one with the MC plasmagun? The Raptor with the Heavy Bolter? Pretty wicked. While I've got a Lamenter army in progress, this makes me pretty tempted to go back and rebuild a Raptor army again....But then, I know when Badab part 2 comes out, they'll have rules for the Space Sh...I mean Carcharodons, so I'll have to save my money for them.

A huge thank you to notprop.

I was on the fence about future IA books. I'll pick this one up just from your review.

Lexicanum is a bad source.

Anyway we need the new date, from the FW book.

Thank you for that segway poipo32. The answer is...........................................
Spoiler:
Huron proclaims himself Tyrant on 5 901 715.M41 legally and accepted by the High Lords of Terra. It starts to go tits up for him around about 6 899 901.M41.

I always thought the Badab War was circa M38 in the RT era references but I don't have a great memory? So if anyone has WD 101 hanging about i'm sure we would all appreciate the answer? (I can't be arsed to climb in the loft).

Its an engrossing read and I've only reached p26, bloody having to work for a living!!

@ Warboss - I don' t have a SM codex either so I'm not sure about eaxctly what HQ's get what; so I keep the squad options in case they were pertinent. It was easy anyway I Copypasta'd just like Warwick showed in the previous 8 books!

I just received my book and it is beautiful. The Tyrant's Legion armylist is an interesting mix of Space Marine and human auxiliary units. I'll provide a quick overview.

HQ

Huron: If he is taken you may take a single elites choice from SM codex and an honour guard for him.

Legion Centurion: 2w Space Marine with basic options, must take one in an army of 1500 or more.

Legion Auxilia Command Detachment: Basically a command squad with less options. Can upgrade commander's WS/W. Has the old ld bubble rule, 18".

Elites

Corpse Taker: Apothecary who runs around with servitors harvesting the geneseeds of any fallen SMs. Enemy SM units killed near him worth double kill points.

Renegade Marauder Squad: Mercs who have 3 special abilities to choose from like the old Alpha Legion cultists. Can take beasties that rend. Can take an Arvus as a dedicated transport.

Legion Retaliator Squad: Equipped for close combat, no bolter, combat shield standard. Limited options.

Troops

Legion Space Marine Cohort: May take up to 20 total. Limited selection of specials and heavies.

Luegion Auxilia: +1 troops. Conscripts with slightly better ld and options. May always attempt to rally.

Auxilia Armsmen Cadre: Guardsmen squads with worse ld and options. If they don't move they can reroll 1s to hit for shooting but may not assault afterwards (they can take shotguns).

Fast Attack

Legion Iron Hunter Squadron: SM Bikers.

Hellhound Flame Tanks

Sentry Gun batteries: May take TL assault cannons and single Multi-melta in addition to TL Lascannon and HB variants.

Arvus Lighters: They have improvised weapon mounts (TL ML, TL AC, TL HS, 2 HS missiles)

Auxilia Tank Squadrons: LRBT, Annihilator, Exterminator

Auxilia Siege Defence Squadron: Thunderer, Medusa, Basilisk

Artillery Barrage: Bombard, Basilisk, Mortar strikes

Auxilia fire support cohort: conscript heavy weapon blobs. Can take a total of 6 heavy weapon teams. HB, AC, ML, mortars.

Maelstrom Fleet Naval Detachment: Thunderbolt, Lightning, Vulture

You may take 1 HS from Space Marine codex for each Legion Cohort you take (within standard limitations)

Auxilia Heavy Ordnance Battery: Earthshaker enplacement, Medusa enplacement

Nice. Do they give colour schemes for the Tyrant's normal human troops?

So it goes in this order
-Vraks Siege
-Anphelion
-Badab War
Which means FW didn't screw up with Culln.

Just tidy up a few of those questions

VermGho5t wrote:Nice, i'm interested in seeing how they paint their Astral Claws since I play Claws of Lorek CSM.

Pretty much burnish silver, with variance in the pauldron colour depending on the comany. 1st company has blue fill with gold edges for example.

plastictrees wrote:Should have this myself by the end of the week...Lamenters here I come!

I'm just looking forward to all these chapters not being a collection of gimps and weirdos as they were in that terrible cursed founding WD article years back.

How can I say this..............errrr...........the hint is in the name L-a-m-e enters..sorry

I jest of course! I have quickly skimmed this section and I don't think you will be disappointed with their treatment. They have a bad rep because of the "cursed founding" meaning that they don't get the recognision plus the odd accusation but they double hard SM with a nifty fleet and a ponchant for the red stuff - nothing weird or gimpy here!

Death By Monkeys wrote:..................................................... but do the rules give any hints at how to play a force of that Chapter (like the Lamenter character having BA Descent of Angels or such...)

Well there is only a brief section on this which is in the campaign section. I paraphrase but the gist is they are all Codex forces except the L-a-m-e enters (again sorry!) who are chosen from the BA codex. In the campaign Loyalists can also chose to play IG, Secessionist forces get the Tyrants Legion included in the book.

I quote from the book:

The Legion's human Auxilia are founded on many different worlds throughout the Tyrant's domain and almost any scheme you like is perfectly usable for these forces, although the original Legion raised on Badad Primaris have an urban grey fatigues and grey-black flak armour. Throughout the Tyrant's Legion the symbol of the Tyrant's claw is common, as well as conventional Imperial markings.

Any chance of a rundown on the various Chapter's backgrounds? I'm particularly interested in Novamarines - the Captain's name has an interesting sound, and I'm intrigued by why Terminators are scoring. Something to do with a boarding-based combat style?

Space Sharks are in IA10 I think.
Apparently they are now called Charcharodons and have a vaguely native pacific islander theme.

Weren't Fire Hawks one of a billion "mysterious" marine chapters that may or may not be destroyed/traitors/mutants/ghosts/forty squirrels in power armour, with vague connections to the LotD? Hopefully their background is mor interesting now.

*collects commission gleefully*

The Fire hawks do indeed, eventually, wind up becoming the LOTD. There is a ,slight, nod of the head to this in their background piece that mentions the chapter being declared lost in the warp at a later date.

Boarding action rules look nice and clean and simple. The stratagems (and the layouts you design for the ships) are very characterful and add a nice edge to the games.

I am quite tempted to try doing a Planetstrike battle using them, to represent a boarding/breaching action on the hull of a vast ship of some description or other as they suggest.

The Novamarines are a 2nd founding chapter, their founding master was "Lucretious Corvo", an honoured captain from the Ultramarines Legion. He served as a Legion champion and notably fought against the Word Bearers in the HH. He led his forces as they were besieged on Astagar, by a force many times their size. After 6 days he led a desperate counter attack which broke the siege and destroyed a traitor Warlord Titan. In honour of this he was presented with a Laurel of Defiance by Guilliman, this sacred relic is preserved in the Fortress Novum to this day.

They are hardline adherents to the Codex Astartes and somewhat monodominant in their beliefs ; the only good alien is a dead alien and it mankind's destiny to exterminate all the xenos in the galaxy. To this end they serve extensively in the Deathwatch and maintain "unusually close" ties to said organisation.

The quartered colour scheme is based upon the personal heraldry of their first master.

They tattoo their skin with images of their deeds and life, they believe these markings help to armour the soul against dark spirits and it is by the roll of their deeds on their skin that the Emperor will judge them when they die.

They hold/own many war relics and can infact field a full company of Terminators if they have need to, they have extensive arsenals of early pattern Predator, Whirlwind and Vindicators and numerous Dreadnought frames.

Hope this is of some help.

Picked up my copy from Warhammer World yesterday - lovely presentation and it looks worth the money. Six proofreaders credited but, hey-ho ... mentioning 'the battle to rest control' (sic) from 'The Murder of Sagan' scenario was quite amusing.

Speaking of this particular scenario, I did a double-take at the 'Weapons of Mass Destruction' special rule - basically, the Secessionist player has to drive Rhino car-bombs into the Loyalist deployment zone and then detonate them in order to win. Interesting.

Oh, and I liked the fact that one of the Lamenters characters pictured has a jagged stump where a hand should be ... will their luck never turn?

I'll Be Back

Britanica-airstrip 1

I’m just getting back into this stuff (an new to the forums ‘ello all, etc) and IA9 is easily the best of the recent stuff I’ve picked up writing wise, and its got me very fired up for a Marine army even though I’ve just re-started a Necron force, and there’s tons of cool background stuff in it.
Oh, and somebody feel free to tell me I’m wrong because the old white dwarf/red compendium is long gone, but wasn’t that whole rhino virus bomb thing in the scenario a reference to the article where rhinos were first introduced waaay back? -if so, ++good, if not I’m just crazy

I've just been reading through my shiny new copy and came across a terminator model that I've not seen before on page 51. Is this something I've missed, or is it the rumoured early mark terminator armour?

Anyone want to make a scan of one of the "Corridor" missions (assuming there are any)? I just want to see how they're laid out in the book.

No, I'm not asking for someone to scan the book, before anyone jumps on me, just one of the 'example' boarding missions (assuming there are any with maps).

There aren't any specific boarding missions in the book, just a few pages of rules, including new FOCs for attackers and defenders. As such, there aren't really any floorplans either. There is one example diagram, but it's literally a couple of squares connected by some rectangles.

When setting out a board it suggests using a 4x4 table with a few large areas set out as rooms, connected by corridors. For the corridors it suggests either space hulk tiles, or cutting out corridors from strips of paper. Each table quarter should have at least one room on it, along with double that in corridors. Each table edge should have corridors connected to them to allow for troop deployment.

The "rooms" should have terrain set up in them to represent walkways, storage containers and cargo. This terrain should be equivalent to 1/4 of the "room"'s footprint.

It'd be fun to try and play all the space hulk missions using these missions as some of the extra rules are rather interesting. For example if you decide part of the board is in vacuum, any weapon over S4 becomes rending

Hmm... that's a shame.

Doom tiles would work wonders for this. Big rooms in that game, and decent sized corridors as well.

I should clarify that point. There are three different mission types (Search & Destroy; Force the breach!; Sabotage); just no specific scenarios with floorplans.

I'm looking forward to trying out a boarding action; though imperial guard heavy weapon teams are screwed as their base size means they can't go down corridors.
