Finally, an update! I've finished the anti-air vehicles. As you can see, they are different to the ones in the earlier pictures as I realised I was supposed to be using the armoured anti-air vehicles, not the open top ones. The open top ones got to about 80% complete, then I noticed. Doh! I ripped the gun and tracks off the incorrect ones and then put them on the painted body of the correct vehicles. I prefer the look of the armoured ones anyway so all is well in the end.

I tried a new thing with the above models as well. Instead of using the battlefront decals for the balkenkreuz, I bought some from Dom's Decals. The Battlefront ones always have the white parts of the cross slightly mismatched from the black parts, and it drives me crazy trying to trim them to be even. Dom's decals are absolutely perfect though and although they are not individually cut on the decal sheet, they are thinner and so easier to hide with a touch of varnish. There is almost no silvering under any light for any of the balkenkreuz decals I ended up using from him. The license plate decals are also from him and are perfect too.

I didnt think I would bother painting it, but I also painted the objective for this army as well - the sturmtiger ammo dump from the sturmtiger box set:

I was not sure what colour scheme to go with but am pleased with the results. I had a hard time making so many different brown colours for soil, wood, etc. and deciding on the colour of the plaster and tiles was difficult (both are actually the same, the tiles just have 3 coats of devlan mud on them). The wall was easy, just grey drybrushed over black to provide lots of contrast with the white coat of the scientist. I've seen some good versions of this objective where people have added propaganda posters to the wall, but it is busy enough already in my opinion.

The last thing I've been doing is getting distracted. I made a small start to a River of Heroes Soviet T-34/85 army:

I love the T-34 and it was only a matter of time before I started painting some up. I now have 10 more to paint as well as a large group of soviet infantry, but I'm investigating new speed painting techniques before I start on the infantry. Still a lot more germans to paint first! I've finished the HQ unit for the Waffen SS now as well, and have a WIP image of the infantry so far which will be coming in a future update. I've also airbrushed the camo on some parts of the panzer IVs, but am saving them as the last thing I paint for this force as a treat for myself after all that 15mm scale camouflage.

Thanks for reading!

Nice work on the camo on AA vehicles. I like the soft airbrushed shapes.

As promised, here is the HQ team:

And the 2iC team:

And here they are with their halftracks as the complete HQ platoon:

And finally for now, here is the current WIP of the horde of infantry. It takes me about 15 minutes do to the camo per model (not including all the other stuff on each model), and with 4 to a base, that is 1 hour per base just for the camo, so it will be quite some time until there are more updates!

The imperial guard are also a long term WIP so nothing more to show of them for now either.

They look great! Yes FoW is an amazing game there mini's are starting to get better quality like they use to be as well! They were in a funk for awhile with bad sculpts expecially for SS mini's but they have come back up expecially with the new commonwealth!

And, unlike certain other companies, you can use ANY 15mm WW2 minis for it...and there are a lot of nice ones.

Thanks all. I've enjoyed painting these so far, with the exception of the cleanup and basing, but basing in the future at least will be a lot more pleasant with the new tamiya stuff that I reviewed here, and on top of that, I've already based everything I am painting for this army. Lots of infantry still to do, but I am going to try and get through it over the next few months and perhaps do some more soviet stuff on the side.

I notice it's been a while since any new photos. Are there any plans for some more of the finished infantry or are they in a different thread?

They are still not done. I've got a little bit further but nothing photo worthy. They have the complete base coat (with the exception of the flesh of about half of them), and will soon be ready for highlights and details. It will be quite some time before I get a chance to complete them though as finding time to paint is quite rare at the moment and I've been finishing off some Imperial Guard and more T-34s at the same time. This blog will be completed at some point. I've had to add another panzer iv to the army list because of grey wolf as well!
