Hi Vik, Likely I will go to the hardware store next to the shop I was painting it at, and grab some of that tape to help straighten out the lines of red and white. I like that idea of painter's tape to help me out (Shaky hands can be a drawback to free hand painting).

Thanks, I have a whole host of the planets noted down for the Khadrovian Konfederation, and what planets contribute to the military they guard their portion of the Emperor's realms with. The majority of the worlds are Ice worlds, or Tundras, some forested and even a radioactive volcanic world to boot!

As for the soot from firing the cannons,,,,Hmmm, I could try and attempt some different schemes to tone it down, and make it less messy. I am also thinking cuts or holes for the muzzle brake at the end of the main barrel.

As for the tank, you could get one at the HobbylinkJapan, they have two headings for it, you want the one that has it with a green dot and at about 50USD, or likely a little higher in Euros. Then they do add shipping costs, it wasn't too bad, 82.90 total from my bank account as they charged it through Paypal on their website so that you are paying in Yen(Helps their banking system)

I can try daylight for the showing of the rust, I did have the flash off, the whole time we were under flourescent lights, and they do odd things with paint colors. I found that the Chain-mail of the treads with a heavy wash of chestnut ink wash made the rust.

My last pics;

A close up of the rear right flank with the rust and the devlan mud on the vehicle.
[/img]

Here the soldier(Greatcoated) is walking alongside the tank it is closer to done.
[/img]

Here, a head on for the sheer scale and size of it, making one realize that if I had found this at 1/48th, it would truly dwarf the soldiers
[/img]

At a slight angle, but also complete pic of the tank without it being blocked off at the edge.
[/img]

I can't wait to work with the helpful suggestions and get decals to mark it up in and rewash it all dirty, and I also plan to use a earthy color to dirty up the lower track sections and add to the discoloration with the rust.

every time i read decals my one eye twinges. i am no good at freehand, well the things i have tried, but i am a total dumba.. when it comes to decals. also i tend to find the glossy look of the decals yucky... i understand if you want to have stability in looks decals is a very good option. i just dont like them.

painters tape...damn i could have come up with the right word^^.
as for lights and effects the produce, the last pic of yours is by far giving the best results. the angle seems just right to pay tribute to all invlved colors...
ha thats a warzone mini? the longcoats? i´ve oggled on them for a long time now. they look super cool. but as i want to ceate a quasi praetorian army they dont look the look...
so as you go in full fluff mode now, will you do the sqad to this tank in a same camo scheme and wiull there be a next tank with another scheme or will you then repeat it? could work if you have small forces about 500 points worth all in seperate schemes which tie themselfs in the greater scheme... this way cyou can built fine looking units and not get bored while overrepeating the same scheme over and over again. if thats your idea as well i´d say cool idea^^...

i came to your thread because you collected the oddbal tanks. that was very inspiring. we should do so again, a leman russ or a landraider get boring when you see too much of them...

cheers mate and good luck with your painting.

Well, I do want to use the decals I have left over from the GW tanks to make the tie in and look and with the right wash and matte finish, the glossy look should go away. with the painters' tape, some can be hand painted. GW has boring numbers for their vehicles, they are either black or white.

The one thing I have been doing is using a urban-geometric pattern on the fabrics of the mens, uniforms, but some of the units I own this would be silly on, but the helmets and hard armor, like the cadian chest plates will be Catachan Green, some have khaki and earth camo on them. My storm troopers get black armor with grey splinters as opposed to the khaki-earth camo on the green.

All of my tanks are getting the Highlands camo as that is classed as a general patter for the Konfederacy for simplicity in ID of the tanks. I may make some tanks in the future just be green.

The long coats are from Wargames Factory, it is their brand new sci-fi troopers series they just came out with, I have platoons and vets from three different worlds just by using the optional heads that they come with.

I am also working on several other oddballs one is a Gundam Hi Grade kit of the M61A5 tank, I use the guns as long range Twinlinked Vanquishers. I will be taking pics of that as it is built and is under the brush stage now, sorry for no WIPs of that as I build it. Funny, that tank is 1/35 and the guins are still considered smallish for 40K!
155mm and they are too small? I feel 40k is unrealistically over the top with gun sizes, if they built the tanks to actual true scale, instead of just representative size, we would be looking at Leman Russ tanks as big as that Akuyaku kit, and Landraiders the size of Baneblades, Baneblades the ,,,,,well, you get the idea!

I am also planning on better pics as I return to the painting/weathering of the triple turret, double turret tanks I made from bashing two and three Russ kits together.

I am also wanting to rework the Malcador Defender I made from converting a French Char 1B bis from Tamiya. the 1/35 scale Char 1B

Seadragon Heavy Transport
[/img]

Variant of the Valdor using S-Tank and Tau bits.
[/img]

T-350 triple turret land battleship
[/img]

T-290 double Turret, considered a Macharius proxy.
[/img]

My French Malcador Defender.
[/img]

I also made an exterminator with the leftover turret and cannons from the Char 1.

i also have some 1/35 scale tanks at home. the guns look like needles compared to gw guns... but i have to say i like them more. you´rew right gw tanks need to be far more bigger than they are now. would be fun to see real leman russes. then i would respect them more. as now they seem tres petit and look a bit like grottanks^^
i´ve meant wargames factory^^ just messy recollection on my part^^. they look really good and they give (for real) 3 heads on each model??? cool business concept. that way you can really diversify your army and still make them look as a unit.

i have to master the decals i think as it saves a lot of freehand time. so i hold fingers crossed for your work with them. no need to apologize for no pics. pics happen when something picwothy happens^^

They even came with with a odd head that could be used to make a model wok when playing against the Nids, tentacle mouthed squid face for "Sarge is acting weird" if they use that Parasite model.

I loved the Warzone minis as well, especially the last iteration of the Bauhaus army. In Fact I have a small squad of veterans to from some Bauhaus minis, one Blitzer, and Jungle kommandos, I also have first run hussars as Grenadiers/stormtroopers.

I also have some tractors to pull my thudd-guns. 2 came in a kit from taken over FT-17's at 1/35th, and the third is a scratch/bash that looks like a Germanized Bren carrier. All of that came from the top of my head.

i think the triple head and double headed tanks look god if a bit overgeared. almost a bit orkish to some extent...the camo your using is really goodlooking now that i have seen so much of your army. am i guessing right that you are an apocalypse player then?
i specially like your multi sponsons on the t- mold tanks. thats really helping to support the heavy look

and i have some of the wartone minis with "pickelhauben" on sprues. wanted to use them for my steampunk army as well.

in your last pic you show the tractors. are the guns that get to be carried from warhammer fantasy the hellfire ones? i think they look really good. i´ve searched for them on ebay and want to get some for my uses...

you must be quite a "tank lover", your collection is a very good looking one^^

Hey Vik, the truth is the theme I was going for was quite Russian in the way of the tank designs and the way they operate, I have taken the squads and made rifle squads and separated out the Heavy weapons to be support squads for the platoons.

Back in the 1980's when 40k first came out, and there was no force organization we played bring it battles that would last all weekend, then Apocalypse came out with some rules and oh yeah! I had to jump on that game. I am likely to use the strategic asset "Tank riders" with all the monster tanks I have as well as about a dozen Lemans' and half dozen chimeras, and then the hellhounds and artillery. I just had to mount the extra sponsons to make them appear the Heavy class tank that they are.

Heh! the Bauhuas troops with the spikes on the helmets were great! Had to make the big weapons Heavy Bolters though.

Ah, those are the actual Forgeworld made Thudd-Guns, bigger than the old metal ones from way back. I love their range and power, they do 5/5 on enemy infantry.

I have the most tanks in my IG collection, as well as my Tau collection. My SM come next, and then there are my Orks...had to get them a Stompa for good measure!

the baneblade sure got style.

as for the heavy bolters. i always think they look a bit out of scale when in the hands/mounted on IGtanks of the guard. i´m so used to the disign that when i see them with IG troups it looks like a mishappen conversion...funny thing tho thats not happening when i see a twinlinked bolter...looks more seriously then i suppose.

man as you describe your army you´ve got yourself quite a big no enourmus army. might i ask you of your age?
your by far no teen any more^^

when i see a baneblade i would lobe to see a inside shot of them. as for all those turrets, where is the place for the crew? how do they opperate the gus? well its sifi gaming so i expect no realism but one thinks the thoughts one thinks, non?^^

Baneblade does have an awe around it.

Of course, they should look odd, according to a cutaway from a White Dwarf of the Predator tank, the HB is 37mm gun. 1/35th french tanks could be used as HB sentinels on treads, like the Hotchkiss.

No problem, 46, I have been involved with 40K on/off since it hit the states in 1988.

I have actually been trying to figure out how to do a Interior of one, but to do so is expensive as the materials needed, crew, and carving up a 95dollar model is involved in the process.

Your welcome Mad4minis. ^^

yep doing so would involve killing one model/getting it out of the game and only using it for a diorama. sounds a bit over the top then.to make this work you probably have to leave the 28mm heroic scale and go further up the ladder to get all the details done right. when aiming to something that high on an art scale 28mm isn´t enough to admire all in due detail^^

by the way i´m 36 and only recently due to a project with my oldest son did i got reinvlved to wargaming. about 5 years ago i had my first models painted but then they looked like really first models. drunk in paint and not really good lucking. here on this forum i really learned quiet some tricks to make my minis look way better than then.

Just glad you came to get help here at Dakka. At Bootcamp, I am Gen. Makarov.

Oh yeah, the painter tape was harder to work with on a curving surface. The rivets allowed bleed throughs, so I had to re-work with section at a time.

looking really good your regimental colors.the tape paid quite good off. as for blleding through paint. i recommend to paint the part before aplying with the choice color first with the undercolors/side color. i use this by painting windowframes and the likes. first you tape the part, then use the "blue color" then let it dry and then add the color you like for stripes.
next step with new color simply repeat. i know it time consuming put in the end it will look good. but i thin you managed quiet good on your own^^.

3 treads? never seen this. is it only for this kit? but a nice idea nevertheless. guess you could make some house rules for that gimmick.
the tanks still remind me of the comment from Han Solo:

"look at the size of that thing..."

cool work and the decals look really smooth...
your reference shot really dwarfes the other tanks even by a scale of 1/48...

by the way. for your next treads i suggest you try something out. fist i recommend black basecoat. then only drybrushing metal on the treads. this will instantly give lots of scratches on the metal to let it look really worn to begin with. after that you can wash ´em like the devil how you want it. i think as of now the look a bit shiny under the gime and rust. your rsut wash cant break the shinyness of your first metal look...
but don´t get me wrong a general will get in some serious self confict to battle your tank as destroying him, well trying to anyway will cost him dearly one way or another...no ones easy with destroying beauties...

cheers mate, vik

Hi Vik, I did start out with white as the base color of the stripe, then added the red, had to retouch the white where the red snuck in at the rivets.

Yeah, the Akuyaku has a third section of tracks and wheels in the center, but not the entire length of the tank, I would use the "Rough terrain modifications" wargear rule for the third tread is all.

The T-61A5 is 1/35th scale, makes for superheavy class all at once with that scale! But in 1/35th is my other hellhound a PzKpfW-II flammpanzer, it is about the size of the Chimera,,,odd eh?

I did the first steps with the decals, I used the 'ardcoat on them and with the wash it will match more, and then the Matte Coat to seal it all up!

The metallic first was based more on the look of the trads used, I usually base everything in black, and then work up from that, but these were so huge, I figured they would be metallic to start as they dig deep and get scoured by the dirt they sink into. That would make them get a thin rusty coat due to exposure, I will also be using an earth tone overwash on the treads and the lower armor of the tank to look like it has indeed been in dirt before, ground in dirt.

Yeah, it should be a great fire magnet, I will have to set it up in woods and give it camo netting for good measure. 3+cover save from most weapons will really drive folks nuts!

I will, when that time comes, I will likely buy and use gauze bandaging to start with for the camo nets.

I know fellas, but the weird bit is it fits with the Khadrovian penchant of making high sitting tanks as they are almost land going ships as far as they are used by them.

Look back at the T-290 and that is where it all started. OR my T-350, also with a tower or conning tower as it were.

Fear not though, the promised pics of the Hellhound from a WWII Flammpanzer will show a low slung approach to counter the high hat tanks. (I can play it as a battle between design pundits, like the one that went on between Battleship and Aircraft Carrier pundits way back)
