Loads of people make 15mm Vietnam stuff... Flashpoint, Peter Pig, QRF...

It may surprise you but some of us have been playing Vietnam for a little while... Since 1988 actually.

Well its hardly as if BF were going to do something "new". For that matter, its hard to think of a period that isn't already covered by the usual suspects (Pig, QRF, Skytrex and so on.)

I suppose if they wanted to break out a little into a relatively new area then anything that happened East of Russia between 1914 and now would be relatively uncovered. I'm surprised they haven't tried to corner a market in some period or other rather than jump onto a well-supplied bandwagon.

(Isn't it a little sad knowing that BF are doing a GW, and are more interested in profits than the hobby these days? It moves from speculating on what would be an interesting or useful thing to release and shifts into the rather grubby area of "what can they shift in bulk". I find it makes the fun of speculation a lot more cynical.)

"There's a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious—makes you so sick at heart—that you can't take part. You can't even passively take part. And you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop. And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all" Mario Savio

I would have thought Pacific or Korea would have given them more scope for expansion... Or even going back to WW1.

Or a new period entirely... 'Flames of Napoleon' perhaps?

I dunno, I dont play their game or use 15mm so I may be blowing hot air!

Does nowt for me. Sure the American side stuff is good and I can see why anyone would want to get that, but who would want to play the NVA/VC? All you are going to have are loads of infantry and underground bunkers? Doesn't make for much of an interesting army to collect and paint for most people.

Cheers

A rather mythical view of the period there... My NVA have tanks.

I actually find VC, both local and main force, and NVA rather interesting to collect, especially given the myriad of weapons they used.

But then I have an ARVN army so I may not be best placed to judge whats good...

Reference is from Friedrich Nietzsche, actually. I've never read it, but the first time
I had heard of it was Warren Ellis using it for a super-powered villain in Stormwatch.

The musical piece is inspired by the philosophical book.

Or so wikipedia tells me.

And thus my point is made!

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.
Play the games that make you happy.

Yeah, the choppers are what got my interest, too. I quickly made the leap to hoping that the next conflict they expand into is the Soviets in Afghanistan, so I can field Hinds. Lovely, lovely Hinds.

You're entitled to your own opinion, of course. Personally, I think this is a great move on Battlefront's part. That's because this is going to get me into the FoW system to begin with. For multiple reasons, the WWII stuff hasn't interested me. And Korea wouldn't really have excited me, either. Now, I'm ready to buy an entire army, knowing that I can get a bunch of my already-FoW-playing buddies to play this era, too. As opposed to the huge uphill battle of trying to get them into a totally new miniatures system in order to play Vietnam-era minis, a prospect so remote that, frankly, it never even occurred to me to consider it.

I would be down with Flames of Napoleon... Say 1:10 ratio?

Are you sure that's really what they're doing? It started out as one of the designer's pet projects, and they found out it was popular so decided to stick with it. How is that pulling a GW? They're giving the intelligence handbook away for free with issue 282 of WI, for goodness sake. And despite the fact that there are already other companies who make Vietnam miniatures and rules, it doesn't exactly seem like the obvious choice for area of "what can they shift in bulk."

Personally, I'm pretty interested in this. I was kind of kicking myself for missing out on the first run of Vietnam stuff, so I'm glad to see it looks like we'll get another (even bigger) change to get on board with FOW Vietnam.
