For example, The Plastic Soldier company have just released (or will very very soon) a box of 15mm Late War Germans, perfect to go with the Stugs in Open Fire. £18.00 (or equivalent) for :

10 junior officers/NCOs
90 grenadiers
15 light machine gun teams

As opposed to £40-odd for a quarter as many troops, (admittedly with the four half-tracks they need, but EVERYONE does half-tracks cheaper, and they're doing plastic ones soon.) from BF, including some really odd soldiers with rickets or no torso. So yeah, but no, BF are DEFINITELY not the best value in any area at all. See the other thread about "Help me build a Guards Infantry List..." for a clearer idea of the differnce in cost between these and the BF figures (for Russians.)

"There's a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious—makes you so sick at heart—that you can't take part. You can't even passively take part. And you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop. And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all" Mario Savio

Support whichever company you want. I like Battlefront, their models are top notch, and their support is great.

They also make the game itself, which you need the models for, and I've always been a fan of supporting the company that makes the rules...

Usually because I want the game to thrive and continue.

I agree with @Joyous_Oblivion. There are a huge ranges of different companies selling similar models for cheaper, but i always buy the models from the company making the rules. But i say do what's best for you.

The Crusaders-3600 points
Bor'Kan Sept-2500
Tyranids-1700 points
Imperial Guard Molov 67th Armoured Division- 2500 points

So let me get this straight, In all situations you would pay more for a model even if it wasn't the best model?

I'll also take a wild stab in the dark and guess that you've come from the evil empire and FOW is your first foray into historical gaming?

Ive been an historical gamer for 25+ years now and let me tell you that this kind of attitude does not prevail in the hobby, only at GW.
Even BF themselves, who wont allow pictures of other models on their site are not stupid enough to go full GW and insist you only use their models to play the game and ban non BF models from tournaments, It would be the death of them and they know it, historical wargamers wouldn't stand for it.

Most historical wargamers will have armies that contain several makes of figures, my early war soviets for example contain figures from 5 different companies, this is how its always been, you buy the models you need at the price thats best and the quality you want.
Although a company would like you to buy all your figures from them, no company (except GW) EXPECTS you to buy all your figures from them.

Recently there has been a large influx of new young gamers comming over from GW who think this way because they dont know any better and it really gets up my nose!

BF are realative newcomers to Wargaming and have done well but it is in no gamers interest for the 2nd World War period to be dominated by one company and I want my HOBBY to thrive and continue!

Never read such a bunch of errant nonsense in my life....................................

The Lieutenant is a Punk! And a pretty 2nd rate Punk at that.......

Absolutely agreed. Buying sub-standard materials forces the market and makes companies believe that what they are producing is worth charging for. GW have been doing that for years and its led to some truly ridiculous and awful events like Plastic Catachans (vomit) created because "Catachans sell best"..because Catachans were the ONLY guard range with a complete kit list. In the case of BF its their continuous production of strangely proportioned panzer-grenadiers or HUGE bobble-heads.

Historical Wargaming should never be dominated by one Over-Company who spend millions murdering the competition, and BF (because they insist on employing Ex-GW stasi ) are starting to head that way. For the sake of creativity and good models, buy the figures you find the NICEST, not just automatically the ones that say BF on them. As for deliberately costing yourself more... pure silliness.

Hmmm...

I better release a set of rules and some figures.

The reason the historical hobby is so vibrant is that so few companies that make rules also sell figures, and virtually no gamer sticks to one company. Plus all rules allow any figures to be used. I dont understand the logic in refusing to look outside one range... Seems ruddy daft to me.

I buy figures that I like. My 20mm German Army has figures from 17 different makers in it.

Im a figure whore, I simply couldnt be faithful to one maker!
