Good job man! I love that he looks confused like he is not sure why he is there.

Gday all!

Spent the weekend with a hot glue gun in my hand once more and made some solid progress. I finished the bulk of the gun arm and primed it black - looks like a model now and not just bits of stuff glued to other bits of stuff. Obviously there's a great deal of detail that I will lavish onto each seperate component - just nice to have one large chunk essentially done and awaiting details.

I intend of having lots of greenskins all over the model; grots, a couple of mekboyz, perhaps a dedicated crew or mekboy tweaked Nobz that can clamber down the Gargant and lend a hand on the battlefield. The beauty of a massive model like tbhis is how much detail I can potentially put into it. Lots of character.

I started thinking of how much character the GW modellers (and modellers in general!) can lavish on one single miniature, and if I co]an spread that character into all the nooks and crannies of this model... Think about the Stompa kit; the grot crew tell a story by the looks on their faces and their posture - they're under the pump and all working frantically to ensuret the lumbering Stompa can still, well, lumber. The gargant model as it stands at the moment will have ample areas available for this sort of characterful modelling to take place. Some ideas thus far:

an exposed area of the hull of the gargant displaving the inner workings and a grot or two attempting some battlefield repairs

assorted grot riggers in all manner of scenarios including two or more antagonizing a runtherd and being generally obnoxious

several gun emplacements with ork/grots using the guns and carting about ammo and munitions

a crows nest with a grot spotter

a pair of ork boyz squabbling

lots of portholes with ork arms hanging out blindly waving shootas

Any other suggestions or ideas are more than welcome! I've still got lots and lots of hours ahead of me before it even resembles anything near done so bring it on. Criticism is most welcome too!

So to wrap up my long rant, I didn't touch the main body at all (maybe swivelled his head once or twice) but was moreso looking to make some solid, visible progress in getting a limb completed and primed. Mission accomplished:

This is the platform that backs onto the gun arm. Lots of room for orks to mill about on

[Thumb - IMG_1608.JPG]
Oops - bit blurry but this is one of the static gun emplacements made from various sprinkler components

Laying down some scraps or card for the scrap metal surface

[Thumb - IMG_1612.JPG]
Oooh the whole hulking gun arm. Shooty goodness

[Thumb - IMG_1614.JPG]
More complete version of the gun arm platform starting to take shape

[Thumb - IMG_1615.JPG]
Primed gun arm. Now it's looking like a real model!

[Thumb - IMG_1616.JPG]
A nice view of the stepped platform area, more room for da boyz

JUst a shot for scale, ork boy up top, SM captain on the lower deck

Thanks man - slow going at the moment but great fun!

BTW and a little off topic - if anyone knows of any Black Library novels that have lots of Ork stuff in them please let me know - want to dust up on my fluff.

Read novel "Helsreach" It's got a long war on Armaggedon and there is one powerful gargant called "Godbreaker" that is twice the size of a warlord titan. It's a real good read as well. Also try "
Rynn's World" similar thing happens. And thats all i know but thats a really nice Gargant/stompa. And is it built in the image of Gork or of Mork?

Safe to say this project died in the proverbial.

I haven't actually been active in the hobby for well over a year now however I am slowly dusting off the mini's now.

This Ork Gargant ended up in the bin, any redeemable parts I salvaged with the intent of turning them into terrain.

Thanks for all your feedback anyway - onto new things now!

Daaaaaw, that's a shame. I'm planning on doing something similar using a combustion engine kit I got for a birthday years ago.

For those whovians out there, I something planned.

Something big.

MWOHOHOHOHAHAHAHAH!
