Honestly, the biggest complaint I have right now with their project, and this is something that is seriously lacking in my opinion, is where the heck is the donation box?
Those that serve the Emperor like this definitely deserve more than simple praise...

@Redscare: donating would be a solid nail into their coffin made by GW.
With donations the lawyers could bring forward the argument that they are earning money with GWs IP.

I'm not certain it works that way, but it does sound plausible that that is one of the reason why they don't have one.

This is absolutly astounding, I'm very shocked at how good the quality is of this!
My only consern is that while we have a couple of fantastic renders and animations - it's a hell of a long way off being a full motion animation of any significant length.
What size is the team working on this?

GW will shut it down. I love what I see and it looks like a much better effort than Ultramarines (how come a bunch of fans doing this for free can make something that looks much better [so far anyway] than a "professional" company being paid for their work?), but GW can't have it's fans doing what fans do and just generally loving the hobby that they've invested so much money and time into now can they?

I cannot see how this will (openly) survive, after losing a lot of face due to their position on Damnatus GW legal made comments along the lines of 'no' and 'never' for fan film projects based on or including their IP.
Like Damnatus it might come out anyway.

Inquisitor needs Russian VOICE!. But in all support this should be great! If the owner is going to sell it then GW would intervene but if its a free view then it would promote GW and support its fans And there's no IP loss at all, Do you think all the less rendered/detailed 40k CGI vids on youtube get ripped down by GW IP?

Well I am glad to see that the message has spread onto the DakkaDakka forum, even though I would have liked to post the thread myself. I have been waiting for permission from the admins of the forum, as that is the polite thing to do when wanting do promote something
Anyways, thanks for sepreading the word.
One thing though: this is not a movie but an animation, so it would be nice to rename the thread. Thanks.

Awesome work, I hope they don't get shut down although I think CT Gamer may be right with "IP lawyers are taking up position in high orbit as we speak... " *sigh*
Their speed sculpting video for the Bloodletter makes me want to brush up on my Mudbox, very VERY nicely done!

It's a real shame but unfortunately at some point I am sure GW will have to step in and stop this.
Because Lord Inquisitor is being made in Germany it falls foul of an unusual German Copyright Law which allows the creators of films, animations etc a claim on the film's Intellectual Property content regardless of the original source material.
This would mean that if this film was made and distributed, whether for profit or free the film's maker would have a legitimate legal claim on some of GW's intellectual property.
In this case Inquistor Coteaz, Grey Knights, Space marines, Thunderhawk Gunship and the list goes on.
There is no way GW would be able to let this happen, and GW have stipulated that they are not keen on fans making movies.
If this movie was being made outside of Germany it may not be such a problem, but as their copyright laws stand right now GW will come down hard on this.
And I have to admit I don't really blame them to be honest.
Which is a shame as this project looks stunning, and a lot of work has obviously gone into it, but I doubt we will ever see it unless illegally.
And just because GW haven't yet replied to the film maker doesn't mean they aren't aware of it and doesn't mean they won't stop it.
This is exactly what happened to damnatus, the film was in post production I believe before GW intervened.
Let's hope there is a way around this, but I suspect this project will end the same way.

*IF* this thing ever sees print, and the price isn't too God-awful, I'll buy a few copies... One for myself and a couple to sell online after GW puts their foot down. : )

At which point I will point a finger and speak thuslywise: "Ha-HA!" I mean, really. No way in the Nine Hells will GW decide that just because it's animated it's suddenly okay, no matter what their laundry-list prohibitions page will say. An animated movie will hit the exact same legal snafus Damnatus did, and it's both short-sighted and laughably idealist to think otherwise.

What's sad about it is that it REALLY looks like they're capable of just nailing this thing on the head.
Unfortunately, like Damnatus, GW will not buy it from them for distribution. It will likely suffer an inglorious death.
If GW had any brains about them, they'd find a way to bring these guys into the fold to create a new, sanctioned movie.
@Ag...
Building their own world is definitely one thing they could do. Unfortunately, they would not get the kind of wide-spread notice to it as they would with GW properties.
Not disagreeing, just making a statement.

Let me get this straight.
The total of about 1 minute of animation on the youtube channel, and people are saying its better than the Space Marine movie? The renders and clips they have up are fantastic. There are some skills there, for sure.
But it would be wise to see if the quality can hold up over the entire work.
From what I've seen of the SM movie, that is the tricky part.
The animations I watched were very good, and have potential.
Now we only have to wait a year or two for actual scenes.
There is a reason that studios charge what they do for the 5 minute scenes like Dawn of War.
I wish them best of luck, and hope to see a good final product.

If this project is indeed Germany based, I see no chance of it getting past GW legal. Same problem as with Damnatus that the authors would aquire copyright on 40k content.
I see no way that this could harm GW. It's free publicity on a huge scale. Put your name on it by sanctioning it GW, free animation of incredibly high quality (for now at least). Such a shame really that such talent and time will likely go to waste due to moronic management.
I want my Grey Knights God Dammit!
