Personally, I believe the community does a better job of hyping a release than GW's excitable ramblings which sound like a 10 year old. I doubt however that their current approach is directed at 35 year old men such as myself.

I guess we'll have to wait and see. Nothing preventing them from back tracking. And they wouldn't be doing it without some kind of knowledge based on facts and figures.

Not entirely sure it will help, but I genuinely don't see it doing any harm.

Actually, GW's CEO is a lawyer coming from the shampoo industry. May explain why he hires IP lawyers instead of marketing experts to deal with the fanbase.

No , it's actually Wade Pryce. HE is the person that decides these policies (GW's words).

Oh, and I thought the CEO had some influence on the GW policy. Silly me!

Very bad move in my opinion, but I guess they think this will attract more people to the GW stores when new products are released?

Tell me a couple of months in advance that plastic sobs are coming and I will start saving money to buy a bunch on release. Don't tell me anything and you will lose out
on quite a big portion of that money...

I think most of us are this way: if we know it's coming, we'll save up for it if it's something we want. If we know what the upcoming models look like and want them, we'll save up and buy a bunch. If we don't like it, we'll buy the older models in droves. Either way, GW would win. This current set up...they get far less money from us. It's entirely baffling.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I assume the thinking is that people will be excited and buy at the time of release, so they are not allowed a "cooling off" period to reconsider.

It may fit the buying habits of the target demographic rather than more knowing gamers.

Not saying I agree that it is the correct policy or indeed that it is the case, just speculating.

Now you can only see, what HAS been released, not what is coming out.

Hello fellow non smoker, I also know what you have meant
Korea always confuses me because it is spelled as in German and the K is not converted to a C like in almost other countries.

I suppose GW's reasoning is that you must keep yourself in a permanent state of excitement, like a coiled spring, and then unleash said excitement in a fury of consumer spending, as/when and if said Tau materials are released, travelling each day to your local GW to see if the magical day has arrived.

I guess the downside to that is you might be waiting a while...

What's more likely is that I will have to wait until someone else notices that the codex has been released, and puts the News on DakkaDakka.

Well, there is that of course. In all seriousness, I am not sure how and why GW think this is going to generate excitement and anticipation of a release? I can only see the opposite; increasing apathy and disinterest since no-one will have the foggiest of when anything is happening.

There is an argument for keeping customers in the dark but even then, the wise marketeers will release snippets of info to whet the appetite. If this new policy is designed to get everyone buying WD again, I fear it may just backfire.

I thought it had already been confirmed that WD releases are being delayed so customers won't receive them until after in-store release.

The wargaming community is always going to get information ahead of time, regardless of what GW do. Perhaps we should email GW when we get information just in case they did not hear about it?

Ah OK, so then the only reliable way to get advance notice of forthcoming releases is to either a) bug the GW studio or b) camp outside your local GW? That sounds like a strategy that is going places...

I don't think that's too uncommon. I know The Economist hits news stands before home subscribers get their copy, and the same goes for other similar publications. Not to say I agree with GW's overall strategy, mind you. I'm new to the hobby and am somewhat amazed at how counter-intuitive the business seems.

If they knew about it however, they would find someway to make me hate them.

I'm shocked you would say he's making this up. I just heard this too. Further I heard, GW is revising their entire marine line to be represent true scale 10 fee tall marines. All marines not to scale are no longer permitted.

I've also heard that, to boost their sales during this difficult time, they are releasing a new race in both 40K and WFB. The Pan Fo shall be reviled!

The catch is is that space marines are ten feet without armor. In power armor, they hit 12, and in terminator armor, they are a generous 15, maybe 17 feet tall.

The Economist is a weekly news mag. White Dwarf is a monthly hobby mag. Production and distribution schedules are necessarily different.

Previous WD policy as with most monthly mags was to post the consumer copies at the same time as the newsstand distribution copies where shipped, meaning that in most cases they would arrive first. This policy has been specifically changed to prevent buyers from getting information before they could get it in the shop.

The normal pattern with monthly mags is that postal deliveries arrive first.

Of course! Usually more subscriptions, but there are other things they'd like me to buy too. There's also the whole "paying a premium to buy without a subscription at a store vs. satisfying your regular customers who gave you money up front" deal with magazines. Even super specific ones like WD.

Hey, I'll go shut up now given that GW said the change was to "align product releases globally".
