Yup, i do believe the majority of australians are probably switching to other companies who aren't charging absurd prices in comparison to other regions and/or preventing them from buying from those other regions.

Wow, I had never seen that pic before, ouch, and I was shocked at how screwed over eldar players are getting... 23 GBP for a box of dire avengers whereas DE get 10 kabalites for 18 GBP... wheres the logic in that?

i chuckled merrily reading this while flying home with the groceries in my helicopter.
I don't think anyone really knows why GW is so dam expensive over here, especially GW's marketing team.

The spinner thing in the SoM book.... Anyone else wonder where that came from?

"Hey why don't we use a spinner thing like the beancounters use for setting prices for the RoW?"

Here are some more for you rest-of-the-worlders..

(converted our prices to US dollars so you can see the increase)

Dark Eldar
U.S.A - Kabalite Warriors US $29.00
Australia - Kabalite Warriors US $51.00

U.S.A - Venom US $30.00
Australia - Venom US $53.00

Imperial Guard

U.S.A - Leman Russ US $49.50
Australia - Leman Russ US $88.00

U.S.A - Cadian Shock Troops US $29.00
Australia - Cadian Shock Troops US $51.00

U.S.A - Valkyrie US $66.00
Australia - Valkyrie US $116.00

This is why I laugh when people say that PP is 'just as expensive' as GW stuff; Not here! PP games have absolutely exploded in Australia in the last couple of years.

GW charges US$ 175.00 for a single unit of Blood Knights, that's two thirds of my WM army right there.

This isn't a troll post or a 'PP is better than GW' post - it's an accurate statement of the realities of pricing in this country.

Amusingly, not more than 3 years ago, that Cadian Shock Troop box was the exactly same price. The only difference was that you got 20 Cadians rather than 10.

Tyranid Gaunts used to be like that as well. Same price, but you got 12 Hormagaunts and 12 Termagants.

What sucks about breaking them up is the Hormagaunts some with no options at all. All the biomorphs were on the weapon sprue, which only went in the Termagant box. So if you want WYSIWIG Hormagaunts with Toxin Sacs and/or Adrenal Glands, you need to buy a box of Termagants as well.

That's because Cadians were only half as good back then.

8 T-Gant/8 H-Gaunt if we’re being pedantic, but yeah, same deal. And 16 orks (4 sprues of 4 orks) was the old box. Now it’s one box of 11... but you do get a stack of options you never got before (Heavy Shoota, Rokkit, Nob, etc.). The Cadians, Catachans and Gaunt boxes are terrible because they’re still the same – nothing has changed (besides the content and price, that is)

Heh. What does that make the Catachans then?

I wish I could remember how much they were when first released. I’m going to guess somewhere around the AUD$35-AUD$40 mark (the days of UD$29.95 boxed sets went the way of the dodo alongside 2nd Ed). It would mean that each Catachan has gone up by over 200% with no change in all that time.

Grown as in 'it's actually on some shelves now'. I haven't seen ayone playing it though, aside from their models being used in Warhammer Fantasy.

Either way it is cash in Mantic's pocket rather than GW's

I remember the days when you got 12 and 12 gaunts, where cadian boxes were $40 for 20 IIRC.
So the price goes up and the quantity goes down, makes perfect sense

This got a chuckle Too true.

Yeah here the hope is to get prices down to the same as the rest of the world, rather than 40% - 50% more as it is now.

I can't believe you guys get Tactical Squads for $37.25. We pay the equivalent of US$65.82 for a Tactical Squad here!

No idea why anyone in Australia would play GW games at this point. On principle alone I would quit altogether. That's just ridiculous.

I like playing the game. It just limits my options alot and makes me dislike GW but not the games.

Actually, not many people I know have switched.

GW, has bin running them selves into the ground much much more rapidly as of about a year ago :(. Nothing agianst GW, I love 40k, Bin playing since I was 11. but GW profits have shot right down to their lowest in the last 5 years. So what their doing, is hiking up the price heaps to marginalize their loses. That is a terrible Idea because they could make back alot of their money..not most..but better then what they are now by lowing their prices about 20%. People will see the price drop and start loading out on models till they hike it back up. But knowing GW, they will "NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER drop their prices....NEVER!

P.S. NEVER EVER EVER

I seriously cannont stress this enough....NEVER.......EVER..people who argue this point are being silly and support GW WAY TO MUCH. You can support your hobby...but never their prices. Somewhere deep down in every wargamer's heart (Doesn't matter what game your playing) you want the certain company your buying your models off for their prices to drop...everyone wants it to happen. But for GW's sake...NEVER...they have never done it, maybe in the earlier year (not sure)...but they will DEFINITELY in this day in age..NEVER drop their prices to them, its like saying 'Stop making Space Marines and their chapters'

Sheesh. I knew there was a price discrepancy between the UK and the US, but you poor Aussies really got it in the shorts there. Apparently, the rates for the Dodo Express to ship the gold-leaf unit boxes has increased the shipping rates...

Imagine the feeling when you position your tanks, engines idling, landing gear deployed for a low profile, with firing solutions along a key bottleneck. Then some fether lands a dreadnought behind them in a giant heat shielded coke can.

I lol every time i read someone say that.

I too love the 40k universe but it hasn't phased me or my friends from playing the games, sure i don't buy anything as much. Although we do seem to be playing more and more RT
