People can believe what they want to about how tall a space marine is, but that Jes Goodwin picture has a deceptively labeled y axis. I'm way too OCD to watch people bandy on about any subject and support their claims with a poorly read graph, particularly one with a space marine on it

Are you referring to Grey Knights, Mags? Because they are shorter than average due to Titan's higher gravity.

Drawn by Jes Goodwin, who ostensibly knows how tall a Space Marine is.

You are wrong. Unarmored SM are under 8 feet.

Regardless of who drew it, you can't change math. Count the number of lines, with each line equaling 1 foot. Writing the number "8" on a line that is 7 ft off the floor does not make the marine in that drawing 8 ft tall. So either Jes completely messed up the scale of his entire drawing, or he simply numbered it incorrectly at the end.
Edit: at this point you're probably just trolling, and I guess I'm an easy mark...

I'm not trolling.
I actually disagree with you. There is a common misconception that someone who doesn't think the same way about something that you do is a "troll." If I was attacking your personally or otherwise attempting to upset you I'd be trolling. You can choose to attribute the most importance to the number of lines. That's fine. I'm attributing the most importance to the number that Jes Goodwin put at the top. Silly Battle Brother Ambrosius, that's ridiculous cuz everyone knows that Spase Mahreens don't have privates. The beams shoot from the multilazors implanted where their pee-pees used to be.

I'm glad someone brought up the absolute fail of a Y axis. I'm starting to think that Jes drew it this way just to cause less-perceptive people to fruitlessly argue the height of a Space Marine. Not only does the drawing have a Space Marine at 7 feet tall, he is also in power armour; this is another point that people seem to ignore.
For those that haven't seen it:
Notice how the Y Axis begins at 1 instead of at 0 as it is supposed to.

So what is the mistake?
The starting at one?
Or people assuming that he really meant in armor Marines to be 7' tall?
Anyway - yeah, chainswords are awesome!

I've always just found it humorous that they screwed up the Y axis. I have always understood Marines as 8 feet tall in armor and around 7 or so out of armor; still far below the gargantuan misconceptions that float around claiming out of armor Marines to be close to 10 feet tall or so.
That chainsword is pretty boss, its a shame that it is so hard to get. I wonder how much it costs to make one? If it is economical to produce them then GW could make a fortune off of replica 40K weapons.

There is no way a marine is 7 feet tall armored. I mean, the future is a reflection of ourselves today, and if the historical trend is any sort of example, people are getting taller. The average height has shifter up from the mean 5-feet, to much closer to 6 feet.
Lets also considder the sheer number of organs a space marine needs implanted into his body. twenty that is absolutely obscene! There is no room in our chest cavities as is, so there is a lot of re-engineering that needs to go into that. Make a marine fatter? No, that doesn't work. GW has already admitted they have distended physiques, but they still have the fit musculature about them, they are not fat. The only way to get that physique in is to push their height toward 8 feet. Not to mention, a 7-foot tall armored marine does not convey the idea of trans-human dread that a space marine is supposed to epitome. minimum average armored height has to be 8.5 feet. The helmet don't add much, but once you take someone that weights a good 200+ kilos of bone and sinew, add another 200+ kg of standard armor and armament, then we've got 400 kilograms over 30 square inches per each foot? not a chance. Those feet need to broaden out over a larger area, to at least 60 square inches each to distribute that weight. Then add the mag-clamps to let marines space-walk on metal, and armor required to protect from any land-mines, etc. 5 inches of armor-plating under the feet is entirely reasonable.
As for ouze;
Not a chance mate. I would hedge my bets that $8'000 would get you a single working marine-grade chainsword. I've always imagined at least 3 side-by-side belts of teeth operating counter-direction to eachother. Add the motor(s) needed to run those chains, as well as the cleaning mechanism.. And then the cooling mechanism so the thing doesn't seize on you either.... I think maybe if you had the standard of manufacturing established, then maybe $8'000 would get you 4 chainswords, but otherwise.. I think you might just get one. (Then again, the engineering that would go into that monster would put the cost of the first one well into the hundred-thousand dollar mark) Automatically Appended Next Post: SonicPara wrote:Alpharius wrote:So what is the mistake?

I think GW has experimentally worked with companies to produce apparell... it suffers from the problem of being incredibly nerdy, and only a handful of people would feel comfortable with everyone knowing they spent money on something that is.... well..... honestly... nerdy. Or perhaps, even worse from GW's perspective; mistaken as something that isn't GW.
