No, it's not the title of a new sitcom, I painted these fellas up to get my platoon up to full strength.
I found a bunch of OOP Catachans digging through the bins at GenCon.

YES! A left-handed Guardsman! Don't let the inquisition find him and his taint

And here is all that I can call "table ready"...you should see the unfinished pile!

how much points are gathered there? looking good and that pirate of a catachan is super! that sword is even bigger than him... catachans are such muscled up guys^^

That is 2009 points (in a not-exactly legal build I know) in a painted state. I still need to decal and weather all of these tanks, plus I have to finish painting:
1 Baneblade
1 Stormhammer (superdetailed)
1 Leman Russ Exterminator (old metal weapon)
1 Leman Russ Executioner/Demolisher/Punisher (I magnetized the weapon mount)
1 Chimera
1 Salamander Scout (scratchbuilt upper hull on a Chimera )
3 scout sentinels
3 Tank Hunter sentinels
and a mob of more troops

I want all my troop units to have all the optional troops painted up so they can be fitted into any kind of list I want to play

10 years of collecting man! Maybe I'll be ready to actually play by the time the new edition of 40k comes out next year. Plus I have a gaggle of Cadians, OOP Valhallans, and Tallarns too that I've been picking up here and there just for the nostalgia value. I envision a Valhallan Artillery Company detachment a-la Commissar Caiphas Cain in the Salamander. Even if they might loo ka bit odd with the Catachans, all the novels talk about IG Regiments being composed of remnants of other depleted regiments and that's fluffy enough for me.

Nice stuff mate. I'd like to see more close-up pics of the more interesting guardsmen. Like, you didn't even post the CO yet. Where did you get your shotguns?

lol, I don't really like my CO, that's why I haven't shown him off! The shotguns are a mix, mostly old Necromunda plastics, Orlocks and Goliaths specifically. I got some new clippy lights this weekend, I'll see if I can shoot some better photos tonight. I've seen some great articles on converting shotguns from Guard Flamers, but I can't seem to find them at the moment, but basically it involves cutting the flamer at the forestock and inverting it, using the flamer tubes as your barrel and magazine, then combining them with a lasrifle stock and grip. The black vet is carrying such a conversion.

I know, the one vet that looks like he is from 300, his shotgun looks more like an M79 grenade launcher, but oh well, beggers can't be choosers.

as it happens to be in this thread i think are some really good conversions shown... and by the way mine are shown too... which i am rather proud of as they look like they could pack quite a punch^^

i think that a tallarn and catachan force would be a good troop amalgam... these two forces have much in common...cadians and catachans on the other hand make catachans always look like penial troops...which would be in your case of your army be quite unfair!

i think your conversions are very good and i am very much jelous of some ideas you have done. i think some of these i have to nick^^
the melta conversion, secon pic, looks extremly steampunk in my opinion...also i like the idea of that underslung talon grenade launcher! that is quite a nice idea especially to a catachan army as i picture them as some nam army and this fits in so many ways!
as for your pictures... i think there is a photograhpic titorial of great helping here... mom...
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/317430.page

this should greatly help you imrove your pics... and my two cents:
don´t go too near, zoom in instead... some focus related problem then wont happen, and also your lens wont be darkened by shadows from the mini... i think the running vet shows that problem a bit...

also i think taking daylight pics whenever possible is the way to go as this produces the best results... using artificial lights always produce somewhat fishy colors and thus loos like you ruined your work...which is in fact definatly not the way it is! fact, period!^^

Thanks, I'm not sure I really like the camo, but I am now committed to it, so I'll just need to keep painting tanks that way. I am really hoping that the weathering (and yes I intend to use the powders as well as oil paints (like on the Marauder Destroyer). If I do it right, the camo pattern shouldn't be too overpowering...Still, it is a bit scary to ruin the showroom finish.

don´t be too modest about the camo scheme, i like it very much! in fact you tried a lighter one most peeps use darker versions... yours is a very set apart theme and thus original!

when i see your pointing commander in the tank... i remember the colonel from apocalypse now... i think one day you have to model him with his cav hat and all his glory^^

The Marauder look 100% better weathered. How are you going to mount that beast though?

Made in us
Decrepit Dakkanaut

No, I just got the weathering powders , have never used them before. The Marauder Destroyer was my first time using oil paints (el-cheapo burnt umber and black) but that was it! I still have no idea how to mount it, it came with the oval base and clear plastic stand from the Valkryie kit, but that isnt strong enough to support the sheer heft of that girl...She is corn-fed for sure! I've seen people use acrylic rods, but I have never seen them in a store...then there is the gutwrenching task of drilling into the finished bodywork at the right spot for best balance....oof

Also, really nice guard! Really love the characterisation of the newer catachans with the different parts and heads. I've also got a soft spot for the older metal models, so kudos on them too. Ace!
