They are small, numbering about half the size of a normal chapter, but are called into battle only when there is the direst need, because they are the best of the best, possibly on par with the Grey Knights. Their colors are the royal imperial purple, and gold trim, and are then only chapter permitted to wear the shade of purple. (its is a very dark, almost black purple) They also have no official chapter badge, and are represented either by a blank field, or the imperial aquila, as they are the empire's last resort' and are a rathe rshadowy organization.

This post has the stench of... heresy.

Without wishing to be rude, it has, quite frankly, the stench of Mary-Sue. Just writing your chapter to be better/stronger/purer than the rest, does not make them the least bit interesting.

Whilst this one is surrounded by the stale waft of cliché. At least they haven't been 'lost in the warp for millennia'.

IF anyone wants to help me with my lore for my Storm Crusaders go here. its hopefully good.
BTW they are not pure, they have 4,000 of them, they have mutants and they have a hidden rage within them when ever one of their captains dies.

Mine are provisionally called the Nomadii Celtus - this is very much a work in progress, so any criticisms more than welcome.

The Nomadii are a chapter of marines from the second founding, descended from the blood angels, and sent off to find a new homeworld. After searching the void for decades, they came across a huge asteroid, approx 32 km across. The asteroid had been hollowed out by a species unknown, but had long since been abandoned. The nomadii settled in this asteroid, building vast cathedrals in it's guts. Many arcane items of tech had been left by the previous occupants, and these items are researched by the Nomadii's adeptus mechanicus, leading to some curious weaponry.

The asteroid, called Nomadus by the marines, can house the entire chapter, including a contingent of three reaver titans adapted to be deployed from space by a pair of superheavy lifter craft.

The asteroid's orbit through space takes it to close proximity of Nova Celtus, which the Nomadii use for recruiting astartes into the chapter. They have a small, permanently manned fortress on this planet, purely for recruitment and training - due to the long orbital journey of Nomadus, the recruits are trained up to scout standard, then flown to the great asteroid to take their place in the chapter. The planet is structured around a clan system, which causes many bloody wars, and as a result leads to many great warriors. The chapter was named for these clansmen, many of whom now grace the halls of Nomadus.

Every 450 years, the orbit also passes through the region of space home to the eye of terror, and on these occasions, all battle companies are called home to defend the asteroid-citadel from the wars of chaos. As a result, the asteroid bristles with gun emplacements and defensive structures.

Kendo Valimour is the current Chapter Master, having taken his place when the founding Chapter Master, Forlan Mist was killed a hundred years ago in a battle with a Tyranid swarm. (This is to be further developed).

Kelios Drager is the oldest marine in the chapter. A venerable dreadnaught attached to the first company, he fought alongside the founding Chapter Master from the beginning. His dreadnaught armour is covered with seals and honours, and one of his armaments is dedicated to a huge tally of confirmed kills of mighty foes. He also takes active interest in new recruits, and, unusually for a dreadnaught, goes on many sorties with scouts, to both keep an eye on the young bloods, and teach them the many facets of battle.

Captain of the first company is Burse Rosenbaur. Having rocketed through the ranks, due to many acts of bravery, (sometimes bordering on suicidal insanity), he has systematically beaten the odds time and again. During his first battle as part of a veteran squad, he single-handedly brought down three Eldar Warwalkers, and decapitated an Avatar with his chainsword. He also utilises a power fist, modified with a combi-bolter.

A powerfist/combi-bolter is a popular weapons choice with this chapter - many veterans, sergeants and captains choose this as their main armament in battle, due to the flexibility it can provide.

The Chapter followes the Adeptus Astartes fairly closely, only deviating from the prescribed organisational structure where dreadnaughts are involved. Each company maintains a single suit of Dreadnaught armour, and the Marines entombed within are subject to the same promotion prospects as regular marines - If a dreadnaught from 2nd company is killed, and the dreadnaught from 3rd company is deemed worthy to have earned promotion, he will be taken from his 3rd company dread, and entombed within the newly repaired 2nd company machine. On rare occasions, a dread can 'leapfrog' others if particularly effective in battle. The 10 companies are viewed as a natural progression from scout to veteran, and sergeants, captains etc are only drawn from 1st company. Heraldry is generally based on Celtic designs such as Celtic knotwork, and the chapter is deeply influenced by the language and culture of Nova Celtus.

The Company Symbol represents the journey of Nomadus through the void, and also the individual's journey around the circle of life and death and is roughly like so:
(Prototype Nomadii Celtus icon)

Company colours are like so:

Before I give you my [hopefully constructive] criticism, I want to say overall it looks very good Eggs. Now, here's what I see you'll have issues with.

1) Firstly, I know he is you First Captain, but he is still only a Captain. The chances of him outright killing three war-walkers and decapitating an Avatar? Highly unlikely, as he doesn't have quite the access to all the fancy gizmos, doo-dads, armor, or weaponry as a Chapter Master, or even any of the other more senior Marines.

2) Being interred into a Dreadnaught sarcophagus is a great honor, and is not something that can be easily undone, AFAIK. So the theory of transplanting the Marine over and over isn't only unlikely, but very time-consuming, dishonorable to the suit's machine-spirit, and possibly dangerous for said Marines.

3) Keep up the good work.

Edit: Oh yea, I wanted to ask you what that powerfist/combi-bolter idea was? Is it a modified powerfist that incorporates a full combi-weapon, or just like a single burst bolter shot that can be used with a special trigger?

Thanks for the crit - looks like I'll have to re-work some bits and pieces!

The powerfist/combi-bolter idea came from this model:

I really like the look, and it's a modification that I think is within the realms of my modelling abilities, so I thought I'd run the theme through my army a bit, though with only one on selected appropriate models instead of the two here. I'm going to convert the above model to be captain of my second company. They are planned as full combi weapons, but I'm going to need to get my hands on a SM codex, to see whether it would be allowed/how much points it would cost etc etc. I presume it would just be classed as a space marine with a bolter and a powerfist, but I haven't checked it out yet.

Ah, Calgar, hehe. Gotcha. That's what I was picturing. And you could probably do a powerfist and a combi-weapon on sergeants and captains.

Personally, I think that homebrew chapters mostly become boring or silly (or both) whenever people try to make them "special". Like with that Dread-hopping thing. Sorry, but it really is silly.

Simple chapters that just make use of what is already there, on the other hand, are awesome. A normal name, a normal structure, maybe one specialisation (like a large number of tanks or a tendency to use drop pod assaults wherever possible), nice colour scheme, maybe a tale about how their homeworld or something influences their character (but without all the mary-suing). That makes a good DIY-chapter. If everybody wants to be special, no one is, and chances are everyone looks dumb instead.

Im trying to work up an imperial fists succesor, they haven't gotten a name yet, but they'll be a space wolf count as (for all the heros) with a wolf preist (The Chaplins) in each and every squad, and led by Old Teiwaz Tyr (Bjorn the fell handed, named after the one handed germanic god of war) but using the chaplin dreadnought from forge world. And big units of blood claws foot slogging it across the board.

IN short he is not calnor Alrnia the Cybernitical Grand Templar that had his arm ripped of by a daemon prince, snapped a neck of a warboss, took out an entire chaos cruiser by himself (Of course he did have a specialized bolter with a certain round, and he also had weapon that can even cut into tank armor >.> and plus he was in a squad of Alpha Squadron members which are the best of the best in the chapter and have high tech equipment that make some marines jealous plus he took the credit because he was the only one that survived.)

i agree with all that is said.

That's why I'm posting for c+c! What works, what doesn't,
yada yada. As for not having anything 'special' or different, saying 'they're ultramarines, but purple, and with more tanks', well, that's just not much fun...

Part of what attracts me to marines in the first place is the variation in chapters. Going by skylifter's criteria, space wolves and grey knights must suck.

Variation in chapters is cool. But variation means differences, not being better or more special. Differences in culture, in habit, in style. Not in being the most awesome fighters amongst the most awesome fighters amongst the most awesome fighters. Because that is what SW and GK already are. Bad enough there's two who are best.

Maulers Chapter Background:

Founded: 635 M41.
Founding Chapter: Imperial fists/Blood angels
Chapter Master: Ammik Ranlon (acting )
Home World: Ulysses IX
Fortress Monastery: “The Mauling claw” (Star fort)
Colours: Black armour with red shoulder trim.
No gold ornamentation.
Heraldry: Skeletal hand with red claws dripping with blood.
Battle Cry: “Maul!” “For vengeance, the first, and the lost!”
Size: (Approximately) 700 Battle Brothers.
Combat Doctrine: Stoic defence coupled with vicious counter-attacks. Expert Tyranid fighters.
Organisation: 5 “codex” organised companies, and a space- borne “crusading company”.

Formed In the 21st or “cursed” founding, a mixture of the gene-seed of the Imperial fists and the Blood Angels, the Maulers chapter are characterised by their stubborn natures, their penchant for close-quarters fighting, and their malfunctioning Catalepsean node, which is rumoured to mean the Maulers can fight for days without sleep.
Late in 801 M41, the Maulers First, Fifth and eighth companies were caught in a catastrophic warp storm. The Fifth and eighth were confirmed as destroyed by the death-scream of the navigators on the lost ships, but the Golden-armoured first company, aboard the strike cruiser “Render of liars”, was never definitively proved to have been destroyed. Such a blow would have crippled a lesser chapter, but as befitted a chapter of such illustrious gene-ancestry, the Maulers stood firm, their kinship with the stoic imperial fists and the proud blood angels became glaringly obvious.
Since this disaster, Ranlon, the Captain of the second, was elected as Chapter master, and immediately tasked Sergeant Arquellon, hero of the chapter, on secondment to the dust devils chapter and one of only 12 survivors of the first, to create a force to search out the truth on the fate of the first company.

Arquellon formed a veteran squad , named after him, from which the commendable Captain Arctura was promoted to command of the 2nd, the first company being left absent from the rebuilding of the chapter, out of refusal to admit the loss of their best and brightest.
The second company then launched “The Red Crusade”, ostensibly to hunt down the regrouping Tyranid splinter fleets Ouroubos and Coatylus, but in truth to search the unmapped regions of space where the Librarians visions had seen “a hundred shining golden warriors embroiled in the clutches of a shadowy foe”. This great quest has driven the crusader company across the most dangerous sectors of the Imperium and veteran squad Arquellon has been at the forefront, in countless hopeless battles.

This is a story I wrote about my chapter and the initiation into the cult.

Toryn Angelus expertly knocked his opponent off balance with a well timed string of attacks. The other man despite being on the backfoot still had astartes reflexes, he jabbed the blunt end of his halberd into Toryn's chest. Rolling with the blow he spun and used his own halberd to knock his opponents feet out from under him.
Some of the crowd clapped, but most simply nodded their approval. Praise from such esteemed veterans made Toryn glow with pride. Every member in the crowd was from First Company. All members that could be called back to the chapter's homeworld had come to watch the Choosing, which was a grand tournament to initiate new members into their own ranks. Toryn knew that even one negative comment from any of those watching would cause him to fail, but as he scanned their faces he saw only approval. He bowed trying to hide the self approving smile on his face. On the far side of the arena the last duel ended.

After, all the participants were lined up in front of the crowd. At the head of First Company was the Chapter Master of the Sanguine Watchers, Praetorian Vex. The man was a giant even for an astartes and his ceremonial armor shined in the glaring sun. He stood before each Marine individually giving his own opinion first then turned to the crowd for any objections, at first there were none, just a simple no or yes. When one did come Toryn was surprised that someone could oppose such an imposing figure that was their Primarch, but as he went down the line they even became frequent. To think these men were so well respected. The thought made him even more nervous. Toryn had trained harder than his brothers everyday to earn this kind of respect, and the final judgment was looming three men down the line.

Praetorian Vex stood one man over from Toryn now judging the brother Toryn had bested last. The Chapter Master was even more imposing up close, in armor he was taller than Toryn by a at least a foot. To Toryn's surprise Vex approved of the man, as did the crowd, but now it was Toryn's turn all else was forgotten.

"I approve of Toryn Angelus, are their any who oppose." Vex said to his relief, none in the crowd opposed. Toryn stayed in line until the ceremony was finished, but he couldn't help but praise himself. After the ceremony they were taken into the center of the chapter monastery, here they were led below the chamber to a room Toryn had never known existed. Vex led them into a small circular room lined with braziers. The twelve marines who had been selected were shepherded into the center of it, and told to stand in a circle. The other astartes in the room were all notable members of the chapter, along with what must have been a third of it's librarians. Toryn started to get suspicious just as Vex addressed them.

"By being selected you are all now members of First Company, unfortunately there is more to this than a simple title. Simply by being in this room you have begun your illumination to the chapter's secrets. There is one last test before you achieve your goal, and it is a grueling one. If there is any of you who want to return to ignorance than step forward." Nobody did. Toryn's bad feelings were covered by his pride. He deserved this honor and wouldn't turn it away because of anything. He assumed it was the same of the brothers around him.

"Good," said Vex. In the center of the room rose twelve sarcophagi, behind each of the initiates. They opened for them. "Please step inside and show no fear." Toryn did as he was told, and as soon as he was inside it shut on him. His immediate reaction was to try to escape, but he was able to calm himself. There was a small window he could look through. Peering through it he saw the librarians had taken their own positions around the initiates sarcophagi. As the chanting began Toryn's head began to pound. The window of his tomb began to fog as the Librarians each began to glow. He heard the other initiates pounding on their Sarcophagi to escape, he would have himself if he wasn't busy holding his head.

Toryn was in agony he began to scream, and blood began to fall from his eyes and nose. Then suddenly it felt like he wasn't in his body anymore. He was floating in a sea of raw emotion, it made him want to claw his eyes out of his skull, as he had no way to process it all at once. Eventually he saw something solid coming towards him, and he moved towards it even if it was just to focus on something real and singular. It was a lie. He could feel the creature's avarice and pride. Others like it began to appear as well, but this one wasn't going to wait for them. Toryn tried to fight off the demon, but it slipped through his fingers and entered his soul.

Suddenly everything was at peace again, no not peace. All the swirling emotions had become one simple idea, desire. Before him was a beautiful being of perfect design. He realized however that this was the same creature that had just attacked him. It spoke to him in his mind and once again he felt it's greed and desire.

"Toryn Angelus you have the pleasure of being my vessel. We shall be the same and we shall be perfection." It said.

"My mind is my own, demon. You shall not claim me." Toryn said searching for a weapon.

"Ah, but I already have child." It laughed, "We are already one, your fall was your own design your pride a beacon in the warp. Now see through your eyes while we kill your brothers. You will come around I know your thoughts, once their blood is flowing through your fingers you will feel the pleasure I feel. You will want more. I can give you the perfection you desire, what can your First give you that I can not double." I was returned to myself in a flash of light. I was still inside the Sarcophagus, but as Toryn tried to raise his hand he found he couldn't. "You are mine now child resisting is foolish, do not worry I will drown you in the pleasure's your mortal conscious could never bring itself to take."

The demon moved his hand before his eyes to prove his point. It then began laughing. "You still have doubts you poor child. Do you not realize this is what you have wanted your whole life. I offer you perfection accept it."

"I know your tricks demon, the Emperor protects my soul. You shall not claim me. I will not be broken." Toryn screamed in his head trying desperately to move his body.

"You don't want your corpse god to save you though, we both know it. We share a mind. Accept what you seek child it makes things easier. Why would he save the soul of traitors anyway. Why do you think your so called brothers have placed you here with me. You know everything you have fought for is a lie. Embrace the truth, embrace perfection, embrace me." It's words held venom like snakes in his head.

"Your lying, this is a test the Chapter has left me."

"Your mortal loyalties hold you back child, you need to abandon them embrace the truth you have been shown. Your Emperor is a lie, your Chapter is a lie, your Humanity is a lie, Chaos is everything, Chaos is truth, I am Chaos." There was another flash and they were back in Toryn's mind. The demon circled him still with an inviting look on it's face. "Throw away the mortal anger they have planted in you and chase your desires you can be better than them, you are better than them, let me show you." It held out it's hand to him.

Toryn hesitated at first, he couldn't think clearly. His head was still hurting from the warp flow. The demon's words ran true to him, and that stung more than his head did. Toryn held out his hand to grab the demons. It laughed with glee. Until he lunged forward and grabbed it's forearm.

"My Faith is my shield, Contempt is my armor, my Anger is my blade. I will not throw it away so easily." Toryn said through gritted teeth. The demon scowled. It's arm ignited where it touched Toryn's. "You are right I did want perfection. I wanted what you wanted, but now that I stare what I was in the face I have begun to hate myself. I will burn you away in that hatred and whatever part of me you feed off of!" The demon began to melt, with the scowl still on it's face. It wasn't till the end when it had completely burned away that it screamed out in absolute pain.

Toryn woke back up just as the sarcophagus was opened. He stumbled out on his knees and wretched on the floor. Never had he felt so much pain in his life. The brothers who had watched the ritual had formed a firing line around the sarcophagi. Toryn watched as most of his brothers rushed at the lines like animals. Most had some gruesome new appendage as a mark of their new masters. So many of his brothers had failed. Each was gunned down despite being able to take wounds that would kill even an astartes. As Toryn watched the man he had bested in his last bout, now with two crab claws as hands, took five bolt rounds to his bare chest before falling. When the gunfire died down it was only Toryn and one other initiate who had survived.

"So few of them this time," said Praetorian Vex pity in his eyes as he walked over to Toryn. "You two who have defeated your demons. Welcome to the Illuminati and welcome to the First."

The Storm Crusaders Prehistory PLease help this portion of my lore it is from the founding part of the chapter.
The Wars of Asherian
CH.I The First War

The First War was the first Actual Recorded evidence of the Storm Crusaders. The Crusaders original name the Dusk Legion is very different from its current status. The Chapter itself barely had any similarities with the current chapter’s tactics, colors, and the overall identity some Historians believe that the Dusk Legion were in fact a Legion, but this is scratched out as First Captain Leroic of the of Dusk Legion kept pointing out that they were all that remained of legions extra marines that had to be gotten rid of in order to follow the codex astrates. The First war is Drastically different compared the other Wars of Asherian as they are all defenses or an offense against an alien race or chaos. In this case, it was an invasion lead by the Dusk Legion. First Captain Leroic’s recording of the events of the first war were recovered by the Retired Captain Altorick (Astrates too old to fight) and Chief Magistrate Talnar. The discovery of this journal or historical document is that the chapter now knows that they are a 2nd founding chapter and indeed one of the oldest among them. Also some pride in that they had such a great Leadership at that time. The chapter only keeps the history of the first war to itself and it’s successor chapters. Except for the Black Fists which were annihalted after the document was found, by a Dark Eldar Fleet.
The Document regards time differently and it may appear out of order, but the dates and times have all been black inked by the writer.
Day 1
First Account of First Captain Leroic former Member of the ------------------- Legion.
We have been sent by the high lords of erra to protect the systems of the ghoul stars. Little did they tell us the entire region doesn’t want to be owned by the Imperium. Though they remain free, we first tried communicating and negotiating but our Emissaries (Self Righteous Idiots they be) failed horribly I myself could of done a better job, and that is not my area of expertise. They then warned to shoot at my vessel. After this went through the vox, our entire fleet arrived, The Dusk Legion did indeed scare the hapless Fleet, we quickly disposed of the fleet and we now rule the space ways. I don’t know how Chapter Master Asherian Will deal with this. Though our chapter is ready to take the planets by force it seems necessary to do so. Already they seem to be weak. Let us hope that this seems so. There are only 500 Astrates here, most of them are veterans of the Great Hersey, all having served with me and Asherian, it seemed fitting for us all to be put here. Me being promoted to first captain was interesting for I have had barely any expertise in fighting not compared to Lisos (Li-iso-os) an Actual Terran from Terra itself. With all the other legions dwindling I wonder how my friends from other legions fare?
Day 2
The Invasion of Dranis V
This planet is a beautiful City World, filled with many militaristic peoples, I can’t believe they didn’t even give up a fight, immediately after we landed we killed their entire Leadership and cut off their communications. Such a waste of our time. They surrendered immediately at least they will provide aid to us, and an ample place for us to recruit for our chapter as well. Maybe this planet could become useful to us?
Day 3
Navious
I found out the name of this planet Navious. The promoted leader who we sought fit to lead the peoples here told me the meaning of the name, Truly an Awe inspiring name. “Flower of the Untouched Garden.” After we had captured the planet I had found out why they had surrendered so quickly, they knew we were coming, not by psychic powers but by hope that they would be freed from having to send their first born sons to fight aliens that enslaved them, and a government that couldn’t protect them. I hope we can protect this planet and this system.
Day 4
The assault on one of their High Temple Fortresses on one of the moons next to navious began. We were able to break through immediately if it were not for my first company, who had lead the line and slaughtered the defenders, except for a few that fought bravely and were corned we decided to spare them and interrogate them for information, we used what the codex dictates the Chaplains and the Libarians, the soldiers immediately gave way and told us many things. But it still worries me what if someone was able to get a hold of this Codex Astrates and was our enemy?
Day 5
Entire System Captured not much else to report on. The system we will call it Navious in honor of the planets there, we also found a suitable place there that was an ice world that had primitive tribes there, the reason why the Dranis empire never went there was because they believed that people like that should not live.
Day ?
Its been Several month siege I don’t know how long it has been, probably of shouldn’t let my time serf die. Of course I did bring him out with me during a firefight, and I did tell him to run through a firefight and he wasn’t an astrates. Probably a dreadful mistake on my part. The Dranis Empire has bunkered down on this world we were able to bombard one of their military bases and were able to take a city. The rest of the planet is in dissarry, how many damn worlds does this empire have?
Same Day different hour…
We have just found an underground tunnel, after following it we discovered an entire network, they ambushed my small detachment but we were able to rip through them, I lost my 2 best veterans. I’ve lost many Astrates to these spineless humans.
I have slain many with my sword, it seems to me that no blood can repay what I have lost, so be it. A shame this sword has also split the blood my brothers as well.
Asherian truly proves to be a champion to me. Though his psychic powers rival that of the Thousand sons. It truly worries me how long he had be hiding these powers, and what worries me is how well he controls it. Let us hope he does not fall so easily like the Sons did.
3rd Year…
The First Recurits come from Navious they truly have no idea what they will endure but they proved themselves. I know not many of them will survive, many of us wonder what tradition we could start. We still haven’t decided. The Worlds of the Dranis empire are wide and spread apart right for our picking. Already we have found the populations torn asunder by aliens already, truly they are breaking. We are running constantly low on this squad dubbed named the Tactical Squad. It seems the Codex does not show how to prevent this as we place them stratgetically to hold choke points contest areas yet we still lose marines to gunfire even when they fight heroically. They were also veterans of the Heresy, loyalists that should of deserved better. If it wre not for the Dreadnought’s heavy fire power we would have been lost on that barren world. The tactical navigation system showed a planet a planet with regular forests wide mountain ranges and massive fields. We dubbed it Lornis’s World, in honor of if not foolish fallen marine that fell against a savage creature, these creatures that attacked us were wolves, but they stood on two feet, like a werewolf, their image reminded me of the Space Wolves, though their claws were made of some material that could slice even power armor. If it weren’t for Dreadnought Titus all of would have been lost. We are setting up a fortress here to hold the planet and to protect the feral villages that live here, we also found a weapons depot and a temple which gave us no resistance this was their world that holds beauty and to protect the creatures here, for some unknown reason. We call these creatures, the Iron Wolves, a good name we thought. Let this world produce warriors that will honor our chapter.
4th-14th Years
I have been unable to record the events at this time but we have been attacking and regaining ground and defeating entire regiments, bloody and short battles. Truly they have no idea who they fight.
15th Year
The Codex is absolutely useless! Today we sent in an entire blasted Battle Company, it was slaughtered to the last man, they knew how we would strike and what we would do, intelligence from our scouts say the leaders have found the codex and now use its so called scared texts against! Already Asherian and I plan our next move, we have decided that the codex for now will be followed but we must create a new one to learn from this, he says that it is the only way to ensure that the future generations will succeed where we failed. Already our first course was to assemble the Captains and reorganize, a Chapter Council has been created, so that I would be promoted to lead the chapter as a Chapter Councilor, A much more suitable thing but I can lead my chapter much better. Though I will miss my first company, my command squad has appointed Jerios has been appointed in my stead, a veteran himself of the horus hersey and he even slew a Daemon, a creature wreathed in blood with his power sword, he was then honored with being granted as an Champion of our companies. Such an honor was great.
16th Year.
Our numbers have swelled but mostly neophytes our original number was 500 but over time our Astrates dwindled to 200 of us, now we have 800 Neophytes, all have been given tasks, each is lead by one of our chapter council we are running low and the first company has yet to lose as much as the tactical groups, surprisingly our Assault marines have taken surprisingly low amounts of causalities, funny how much we use them and how effective they appear to be, they have taken rearguard options and even have threw away their chainswords and bolt pistols and equipped themselves with bolters taken from our sternguard as they lay dead, they were surprising more effective than our sternguard, they are dubbed Fire Angels. Though the Neophytes prove resourceful they tracked down and ambushed many of the enemy supply lines. Though in fact many of them may not realize they could possibly take an entire planet by themselves without our interference. We have decided to test the neophytes to improve them even in further, the squad based test if any of them pass they will all become Astrates we will redirect the rest of the other neophytes that are newer to fight against the Armies of the Dranis Empire.
16th Year 6 month according to terran calendar.
The Neophytes have proven themselves we shall implement this into a regular practice, they are more united in resolve and act as a unit. The tactical squads are now refreshed, are apothecaries now work rigorously to prove themselves.
17th Year
Onle one world Remains now. Drancoris the homeworld of the Dranis Empire. The Dranis Empire’s Final bastion, this is where they shall fall. We have already saw the wild life and the Iron Wolves of Lornis’s World are made mockery by these creatures. They are called The Drancorians the true denizens of this world they all range in sizes they wildlife here are so different from the other systems I wonder how we have been able to kill so many of the Dranis Peoples.
We have besieged their above ground city, its defenses are pathetic compared to the other worlds, it seems their resolve is broken, though after we took it, we were confused to find out the capitol is still on this planet but we cannot find it or detect it. Asherian intelligent enough discovered the Capitol city was underground, we threatened to destroy the entire world with an extermanitus immediately we received a response from their council. They asked us not to put the world to the flame. In return we gain control of their empire and their peoples to do as we wish and to follow any or all laws of the Imperium of Man. We accepted, in return we protect them, seems straight forward.
20th year.
The Dranis Council finally has given us the privilege of seeing the ‘City of Light’. It was something I cannot describe, even when I am infinitely different from a human the city was beautiful it was a work of art and not alien. We have decided to make our fortress monestary in the southern pole, on the highest mountain peak, Mt. Mortiniva, we have decided to rename it, Mt. Dominus Umbra. The fortress itself is named Ashera in honor of Asherian and his decisions. The imperial fists have also come to aid us in constructing it and building a massive vault like structure underneath it, thus far we have been granted STC’s to store beneath it and many other wonders to protect. We have also found the dead world. The World of the Dead, here we will bury the dead of our chapter, The Dusk Legion will keep a fortress here in grim remembrance and this will be where the Chaplains shall be trained. We have selected hundreds of potential Pyskers to become Libarians that specifically guard that place we have also requested for guardian spears that are specifically designed for pyskers. We jokingly called them the Guardians.
-End of Record-
Leroic Went onto a campaign and was later entombed within a dreadnought, the campaign took place 200 years later, He was seen as the first Real Grand Templar of the Storm Crusaders. 400 Years after is entombment Asherian was placed within stasis after being poisoned, he was then succeeded by Malnar his student, who Leroic had found to be a potential youth before he was entombed, he saw to it that Malnar was taught well, and Malnar implemented the Codex Ignatus and replaced the Codex Astrates. Leroic was finally killed during the third war for Asherian, where he held a postion along with a detachment of the Firea

They have been here since before the Great Crusade, I wrote them in, GW never explained what happened to the lost Legions, and I'm starting a complete history on everything that happens(whether home brewed or official) my Primarch is already done, has his own statline, and the legion has it's own backstory, he disappeared shortly after Russ though, to keep it consistent with the Loyalist Primarchs.

The Lost Ones, this is a group of loyalist Space Marines of several different chapters who got lost in the Warp and now are stuck outside Imperial Space

While they claim to remain loyal to the Emperor, they would probably be regarded as heretics for their actions and views after having to survive for so long away from the Imperium, they scavenge any technology they can get their hands on like common Orks and even on occasion are known for creating alliances with filthy Xenos scum and ignoring holy imperial dogma, as well as defiling their holy weaponary and wargear, even using foul Xenos machines.

There are humans in the systems that they inhabit, who were on the furthest reaches of the Imperium, but lost in the war against Chaos lead by Warmaster Horus, fashioned in a style similar to the Imperial Guard these humans have carved their own miniature empire deep within the realm of Xenos space

The cliche 'Space Marines who don't follow the Imperial code and aren't Chaos either' idea, lame I know

GW has hinted that at least 1 of them was destroyed by the SW Legion.
It's also considered bad form to use the Lost Legions as a foundation for a Homemade chapter...
It's really something that has never been done well.

The exorxists are a regular chapter and according to Lexicanum are GK successors.

My chapter is called the Imperial Castellans. They are based in the Caras sector on the borders on the Imperium. There were originally 5 chapters based in the sector but thanks to a Tyranid invasion, Tau trickery and old style necron evilness, there are barely 1300 marines left in the entire sector. They have two unique forces - the Apothecarion Guard (a half company to support apothecarys) and the Chaplaincy Guard (pretty much the same but for chaplains) They along with the Castellan Guard (PDF based on their homeworld) and the survivors of the other 4 Chapters, made a last stand at their fortress monastary.

This was all based around a campaign I fought with my friends over (semi-living) metal found on the Castellans' homeworld.

Trim is company, armour is black

The only thing they have as ancestry is a shield with the name of the legion blanked out (I the glorious E of Manking etc award this shield to XXXXX of the XXXXXXX legion) and their warcry : "Kill for the living, kill for the dead...

Also they always seem to wear penitent badges (this should be pretty obvious to anyone who has read the HH series)

My own chapter cuts & pastes 40k and Star Wars fluff into my 501st themed one.

(The blue and white jedi-hunting stormtroopers led by Vader).

Why?
Because I'm in the 501st.
Several characters are modelled on mates also in the group.

Fluffwise, they are an Imperial fists successor.
They have a homeworld like any other chapter.
They have the same chapter organisation as many other codex chapters.

Where they differ is recruitment. Rather than recruit a plethora and whittle them down to unsustainable numbers, the 501st recruit physically suitable candidates and clone them (with an accelerated growth) and they also incubate the geneseed progenoids in vat-grown meatsacks - there is background in the game to support this, with several FAILED foundings that used technology such as this. The way I play the game, it certainly appears they are one of the cursed foundings.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

They are more spiritual successors than actual successors. They also excel in fighting daemons so they kinda carry on the GK ideals...

The Suffering Servants chapter

The Suffering Servants are a fleet based-chapter of unknown founding origin. Though the chapter archives insist that they are descendants of the Dark Angels chapter, the Dark Angels themselves refute any such claims - perhaps not wanting to be identified with this unorthodox chapter, or perhaps a sign of foulplay with Imperial Records. None alive know.

The Suffering Servants are afflicted with a peculiar disorder via a flaw within their Gene-seed - their Catalepsean node causes undesired effects on areas of the brain, causing marines of this chapter to have an overwhelming sense of guilt-driven duty. The flaw within the Gene-seed causes a Suffering Servant to find it difficult to distinguish between his own actions and those of other, similar beings (in this case - other marine chapters). Thus, each and every Suffering Servant feels the pain, shame and guilt of the failures of other chapters. Such a disorder is the reason for the unusually depleted chapter strength - The Suffering Servants are always fighting battles and serving penance for failures that are not theirs - even in the face of foes they know they have no hope in defeating.

The chapter wears antiquated armour, long since robbed of its once astonishing golds and flawless whites, now dirty and tarnished. Maintenance is rarely performed upon the armour - the Servants not believing they have earned it. The Chapter Masters of the servants are known as the Grand Martyrs and are promoted from any rank based on their selflessness and perseverance. The majority die particularly young, even by space marine standards, by virtue of their tendency to attempt overly heroic feats - most of which are unsuccessful. The current Grand Martyr is Lenconius Celeritas, and has held the position for roughly 23 years - making him the second-longest serving Grand Martyr in recorded chapter history.

They maintain poor relationships with most other chapters due to their reckless behaviour, but many admire them for their acts of courage - foolish though many of them may be. The chapter is also in possession of a Contemptor Dreadnought - a gift they claim was bestowed upon them by the Imperial Fists after successfully thwarting an Ork Waaagh that threatened a planet under their control. The Imperial Fists recall no such event, and, indeed, still hold dominion over all of their Contemptor Dreadnoughts - a fact proven by the toll of a hundred battles.
