FRP says an "Estimated November" release.

As GG ends on 11/15, I don't think it'd be available for this year's contest.

It's a fairly streamlined game with a heavy emphasis on combined-arms tactics. Infantry and tanks are common on the battlefield, and non-humanoid walkers (referred to as "Striders") often appear acting as fire support platforms. Spotting your enemy using either passive or active sensors is also an important part of the game, and gears that mount indirect fire weapons (such as the incredibly common Rocket Pods) rely on forward observers to spot for them. Humanoid walkers (Gears if they're from Terra Nova - other planets give them other names) are the most common machines seen in games, but are by no means unstoppable. Your average tank can curbstomp a gear quite badly, unlike a certain other giant robot game.

There's also a variant rules set called 'Heavy Gear Arena' that was released about a year ago. It focuses on highly skilled gear duelists fighting in front of crowds.

March/April for the actual ruleset in the Field Manual. The army guides for 4 of the armies are about 2 1/2 years old via the Blitz Locked and Loaded book.

An online store has posted preorders for a NuCoal Espion. Does anyone have any idea what it is?

If I knew, I probably wouldn't be allowed to discuss it.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

A link to the store might help....

EDIT: Found it! http://www.warpathgames.com/wholesale/warpath.php/warpath.php?m=list&mfg=DP9&skip=200&sort=pNum

No pics though...Espion is due in January 2012. The details says it's a 2-pack at $20.75, which would mean the Espion is a Gear of some kind.

Also, it looks like NuCoal Engineering Gears - Chargeur and Sapeur - are coming in December. Personally, I'm really exciting to see what all the new Arena releases are....

it's also reached the point where the FM replaces the rules-portion of L&L, so if you want to get into a newer army (like NuCoal) you can make do with Perfect Storm and the Field Manual.

(L&L is still the book for basic background and North, South, Leagueless, PRDF, PAK lists.)

I like the Hussar Lance configuration myself... Should be enough Dakka for even the ork players!

You're thinking of the Spear.
That look like 2 Heavy Rocket Pods.
Each of those little red circles is a rocket, and I like to think they are all launched at the same time.
Now, that's Dakka!

Some prefer Macross Missile Massacres, some the Lead Hose. Both are valid sources of overkill.

The sink.

So, um, what the heck is NuCoal? And when is that book on special forces coming out?! That's the one I'm interested in.

Hm ... apparently Perfect Storm has an updated list for PAK?

NuCoal is short for "New Coalition". From what I understand (granted only reading out of L&L and Field Manual, looks like Perfect Storm will revise some history), they are a coalition of Badlands communities, the Southern Humanist Alliance, and PAK. See this thread at DP9 for more info/rumors....

Do you mean the Black Talons? They're already featured in Return to Cat's Eye.

Rumor says yes...

No, I mean there is a book coming out that's focused on special forces for all the factions, or at least all the factions that have them. I think it's called Secret War or something like that.

Not sure where you're getting that info as the only preorder books until Jan/Feb are Perfect Storm and Death Track 1000.

Mostly right.

NuCoal is a mutual defense coalition of city-states in the Badlands that includes areas adjoining Port Arthur. It was formed shortly after Col. Arthur took over Port Arthur, and there are mutual defense agreements in place between the two organizations. More recently, the Humanist Alliance has had... problems... with their masters in the Southern Republic. To make a long story short, Bad Things(tm) happened in the Humanist Alliance, and the Southern Republic took over half the country. The remaining half is, understandably, not particularly happy about what happened. The Alliance has long been the technological leader of the Allied Southern Territories, and the PAK has been looking for technical assistance in getting more of the left-over vehicles up and running. So Port Arthur and the Alliance have cut a deal to allow the Alliance to get a better look at the technology the CEF left behind when it pulled out of Terra Nova, in exchange for help from the Alliance in getting more of the PAK's mothballed vehicles operational. Due to PAK's relationship with NuCoal, this has then led to some technological spillover to the gear manufacturors in NuCoal and the result of that is the new releases that we're going to see next month.

There's some 'Special Forces' type stuff in the free Gear Up! magazines, but that's about it. I am not aware of a Secret War book in the production schedule, but I certainly don't know everything.
