Although i dont know how you would play the doctor in game since i doesn't use any guns or fight very much.

The Doctor doesn't fight? Rubbish. Pertwee had plenty of fight scenes and in Day of the Daleks is pretty handy with a Disintegrator Gun. 4th doctor got into many a fist fight and the 6th dumped some poor guy into a vat of acid.

I too have wanted to do something Doctor Who themed. I thought about a Dalek army using either the Necron or space Marine Codex. Probably have enough models for a small force too.

But I struggle keeping to a single theme with my Orks. Instead I have themes to different units. So a unit of Pirates in a looted Dark Eldar Raider, and I'm working on a small unit of Mexican Nobz.

I've tried to get my girlfriend into 40K. I've told here I don't care if she has Space Marines painted pink with glitter so long as she plays.

Apologies for talking positively about games I enjoy.

Not sure if you're going for this or the 'Police' theme (from LAPD), but well-done Faux-Egyptian Imperial Guard would be awesome and very fluffy... A lot of the IG regiments given cameos in the Horus Heresy novels seem to have Egyptian or Asian themes.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

I started an Iron Man themed Eldar army, and I've recently started a Marvel mercenaries themed GK Inquisition army. I have thoughts for my death cult assassins, regular assassins, inquisitors, arco-flagellants, crusaders, psykers, tech marines and servitors. But after that, I'm lost. Full rundown looks like this, if you can help offer suggestions to complete:
Coteaz: Cable
Valeria: Domino
Tech Marine: The Fixer
Servitors: Random (yes, that is the characters name)
Death Cult Assassins: Deadpool
Crusaders: Taskmaster
Arco-Flagellants: Constrictor
Psyker: T-Ray
Acolyte: Alex Hayden (Agent X)
Assassins: Weapon X Team (Maverick, Wolverine, Sabertooth, Silver Fox)
Daemonhost: ?
Mystic: ?
Banisher: ?
Jokaero: ? Weasel, maybe?

Anyways, thoughts to finish up those last 3-4 guys would be great. Not sure about the assassins yet, as that would remove the techmarine slots. If anyone else is familiar with marvel, I'd appreciate help. I'd do Dr. Strange as a Banisher...but I'd like to stick with Mercenaries for this one. Also means no X-men for the Daemonhost, despite the mutant-like abilities. Those have been thought of, and discarded. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I want to do a Chaos army themed around the art of Hieronymus Bosch.
And a Dark Elf army themed around the Wizard of Oz... Wicked Witch of the West, Purple Winkies, flying monkeys, all that.

Da Orks a 'Azzz'Ard.

Hazzard County themed Speed Freeks. The idea being that the planet that their Spacerock crashed into was 38000 lightyears from Earth. The signals from the show passed through a warp storm, bombarded the spores of the orks, and when they evolved into proper boyz, they had the psychic imprint of the show in their minds. Models would have included orkified Dodge Chargers (da Orange ones go fastah!) squad cars, a Cadilac (with horns on the front) and tow trucks. Also included would have been a Blood Bowl cheerleader for Daisy and of course Bo, Luke, Uncle Jesse, and Mekboy Kooter.

Good news. This is the best time in the hobby. Full of promise. GW lets us down each time and we know it but secretly we're hoping that this is the edition that GW gives us a balanced game that can also be played competitively at tournaments. I'm loving it.

Actually, now I think of it I did start to make a IG force based upon a PDF regiment from the Ultramar Empire.

I had made a number of models, with Ultramarine blue berets (very UN!) but lost interest when I realised that the Ultramar Defence Force abreviation (UDF obviously) I was painting also had the some unintended connotations with a certain Northern Irish paramilitary terrist organisation called the Ulster Defence Force and just couldn't be bothered with coming up with an explainaition.

Later I also saw that someone on Dakka had had the same idea, and probably done it much better too!

I always wanted to make a zombie horde fromt eh old LaTD list, but I was too slow.

Probably a good thing considering what happened to tehLaTD list. I saved myself a lot of time and effort.

Edit: Oh yeah, I do have an army of Pink Marines that my wife use to play before we stopped playing 40K.

Ideas in the pipeline for eventual completion... One day...

Marienburg army, based around the Empire army book, but no flagellents, no steam tank, no knightly orders. Warrior priest of Manan, Ogre Pirates and mercenary units of knights, made up of a mix of models. Oh and that big warhammer forge landship!

A Forgeworld heavy imperial guard army.

Would love to do a genestealer cult, if I could decide on what codex to substitute for it.

The Rakshasa Devil Tigers, I get so fed up with space marines being caucasian and using various overdone historical tropes, I want to do a space marines army based on Indian subcontinental history/folklore. I cannot whilst I maintain the private rule to never own a space marine army due to feeding the monster and wanting to spend my money in ways that will make GW diversify. Still, the idea they are all white dudes who are monks or vikings or blonde vampires bugs me, it's supposed to be a galaxy of a million human worlds and... meh.

Cenobite Dark Eldar. "Demons to some, Angels to others..." (this is likely in time, 2012 project).

Ideas that will never be, now.

Sisters of Battle, corrupted by Slaanesh (no, not what you're thinking, no titties or tentacles - rather resplendant in white and gold, Living Saint as Daemon Princess, based around the quote from LotR by Galadriel 'All Shall Love Me And Despair', Pride and Arrogance and notions of absolute purity. Sold my Sisters off instead, too expensive an army atm, perhaps revisited at a later date when plastics come in.

Mentor Legion with Imperial Guard - would have used Grey Knights codex, replacing 'mystical' weapons and abilities with 'advanced R&D'. New codex killed that idea.

I only have had two army plans that fell apart.

1 - A space wolf army using the old 3.5 chaos codex. The background is that these guys spent so much time in the warp that their rune priests used their powers to call upon their ancestors.

It have viking models painted in ghostly colors as Bloodletters and wolf models painted as ghosts for damonettes (the wolf spirits from all of the wolf cloaks and what not).

2 - Might still do it if the models get released but an IG army based on the Empire themes from the game Valkyria Chronicles. I love the look of the empire tanks in that game. Just need approperate models.

I've got an Jihadi terrorist Ork army in the works...Al WAAAGHsa Martyr Brigades, but Orks take forever for me to paint. 4 layers of highlighting on the skin is a real pain...it'll match up nicely with my IDF Guard.

I really want to do a Team American deathwing army...something about 2+ / 3++ on everybody says, "America, feth yeah!" Nothing says, "You will accept Freedom, whether you like it or not" like the threat of being put to the Thunder Hammer.

Plus it'd go well with the theme song...

"Storm shield, feth yeah!"
"Terminators, feth yeah!"
"Thunder hammers, feth yeah!"

I always loved the kroot (and the idea behind the Tau) just generally disliked most of the Tau models as they don't look anime-ish enough for what I want to do
they're stale, boring and I generally feel the models are ugly at times
I can see what GW was trying for (catering to an anime market, but they made it too much their own, thus failing to cater to the anime market)
that and the army is awful these days

Well, it's not as "out there" as a lot of the other ideas people have mentioned (I am just too seriously into the fluff), but I've wanted to make a small army based around a Rogue Trader for some time. I love the idea of a Rogue Trader: an Imperial agent acting unbound from most of the IoM's usual prudishness and restrictions. A real human individual making their own way through uncharted space. Working freely with Xenos, heretics, and other borderline types. Not something you see much of in the 41st millennium.

The relative freedom a Rogue Trader represents is the basic appeal for me. It is also the biggest hang-up as I simply can't decide which direction to go with it. Would my RT be benevolent..or malevolent? Military/civilian? Loyal/renegade? Male/female? Would their landing force be IG? SM? GK henchmen? Their own private army? Suffice to say there are a lot of questions to answer, but I know where I'd need to start: figuring out my Rogue Trader's personality. This is an individual's army after all, suited to their individual tastes and needs. Hopefully I will see a model, get inspired, and the whole army will fall into place.

Hello everyone, longtime stalker firsttime poster.

I actually made a Sisters army about 8 years ago before the Witch Hunters codex came out (I went to tournies with the stapled packet of the army FoC and rules) and the concept behind it was all flamers, all the time. I had something like 3 troops with as many flamers as I could have, the Sister Superior of each troop having a flamer, the Cannoness has a Combi-Flamer, the Seraphim had flamers, and the Retributors had heavy flamers. I converted a SM Whirlwind into an Immolate with backwards-facing flipping huge flamers pointing down directly in front of it (first conversion, it looked terrible).

So the idea behind it was BBQ time, yea? Well, it fought terrible. First fight was against a CSM force and I learned quickly that 3+ armor saves are tough to beat, and it gets worse when you're in melee, which flamers will absolutely guarantee you get put into.

Next fight in the losers bracket was against an IG force, and while I count with pride the number of models I put into the dead pile, still lost the fight. Then my buddy invested heavily into Orks, and I thought YES! With that many models, my templates will be put to great use!

And I would get 1 glorious turn each game where my flamers roasted Orks in the dozens, but then melee combat would ensue and my Sisters would be overwhelmed. I shelved that army, having never won a game with them, and I still have them... partially painted (a garish Halloween orange and black scheme), gathering dust, never to be played again. I still think of them with promise.

I did an IG army using all Skaven minis. Didn't turn out half bad. Clanrats made great rank and file, Poison Wind Globadiers carried demo charges, Giant Rats were Ogryn, Jezzails were Ratling snipers and I put a Warp Lightning cannon with an extended barrel on a Basi chassis. Overall the line transitioned over quite well. Unfortunately when the recent IG Dex came out I didn't feel like painting 80 more rats I'd have needed so off the army went.
