Also, and I'm not trying to start a debate on the subject, but other than Batman and The Sandman I'm afraid DC comics, in general, just don't do it for me.

No offense? That is the trues statement of all time.

What you are describing is a pretty basic tenet of story telling. Even some the best films pull this trick. Its not really a valid nitpick in my eyes.

This movie literally could never have been good. They were foolish to even try.

Well I hated the movie myself, but I can understand the lame will manifestations from Hal Jorden. In the comics he pretty much makes hammers and fists all the time. Its a flaw of the character not the movie. Hal just isn't very creative. Now Kyle Raynor, he is pretty badass in this department. The guy is an artist so he makes all kinds of crazy stuff like spaceships and Gundams.

Guy Gardner was always my favourite Lantern. Purely because he was such a jerk.

No its a pretty good nitpick IMO. Yes, alot of movies do the same thing, and alot of movies make it more subtle then this one. I mean it was pretty much "Hey uh...while Im teaching you how best to bleed, if you happen fight some one...possibly, Oh I dunno Paralax for example, just lead him to the Sun"

It was WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY to fething obvious

Man this movie was made of so much gak. Being a fan of the Green Lantern comic book it was really disappointing. I had some hopes for this movie. Not high hopes, but hopes and it was such a flop. If you want to go see a movie that's how Green Lantern really is go watch Green Lantern: Emerald Knights. That movie is 30 times over what the theatrical film wishes it could be.

I hate how they made parallax seem like some alien monster thing along with a bunch of other gak they threw in. They ruined so many parts of what made the Green Lantern comic great!

The graphics were good for 3D.

The story was not terrible, about what I expected from a superhero flick.

Ryan Renolds was a good choice for Hal Jordan, since the comic book portrays Hal to be about as smart as Reynolds played him.

All in all It was enjoyable.

If you were looking for a deep seeded plot and many plot twists, then superhero movies are not for you.

I liked it. I try to not get caught up in comic-to-screen translation errors.

I'm really bored with this idea that superhero movies, or any movie genre really, are supposed to be stupid.

Green Lantern was stupid. Absolutely brainless. Devoid of fun.

Superhero movies should not be like that.

Hey, I LIKE the stallone Dredd movie.

No guilt about it.

OK, I so want to push Rob Schneider out of an airlock or into a trash compactor, but the rest was fine. It looked pretty and had some good lines.
(and didn't have Ryan Reynolds in it, so it's head and shoulders above GL).

Ryan Reynolds gave a cracking turn in 'Buried'. One of my favourite films from 2010...

Maybe he just picks the wrong films 90% of the time?

As for 'The Green Lantern', have not seen it yet, so I'll reserve judgement until I do

I'm anxious to see this movie for myself. Right now my expectations are set so low that it might surprise me slightly to the upside. IMO, movies are mostly about expectations. I finally saw Sucker Punch recently, thinking it was going to be about on the level of Plan 9 from Outer Space minus the wacky charm. It was what it was, but I didn't find it unwatchable. *shrug*

The GL movie may be truly bad, but it also strikes me that the studio was always going to be between a rock and a hard place with that character. Keep all the really cosmic stuff and the general public is gonna say WTF. Go with a more grounded story and the comic fans are gonna say WTF. Clearly it sounds as though the movie could have been much better even with those constraints, but some comic book characters are just a lot more movie-ready than others.

I'd been collecting 2000AD for some time, I have to be honest it wasn't that bad, and certainly not as bad as some of the fan community were making it out to be. But the fact was the movie, going from the material they had, could have been absolutely incredible!

So, not that it was a bad movie per se (and bits of it were certainly fun), just that I think it was a little bit of a squandered opportunity. Chiefly, it missed the kind of black humour that characterises the 2000AD universes, that unique niche that the comic occupies amongst the industry, and tried to replace it with slapstick stuff from Rob Schneider. Also, it lacked any kind of intensity or serious grit that an action film needed if it wanted to take that kind of path. I don't think it was the problem with Stallone (although I would have cast elsewhere) but just the material he had to work with.

Certainly, I'm looking forward to what they do with the next movie that's in the works at the moment.

This movie commited the cardinal sin of flim.... it was boring.

If you have seen any superhero movies before, you know exactly what is going to happen in this flick. There was 0 creativity in it.

I heard intially they were going to play this movie as cheesy/cheeky fun with a large helping of comedy. However, the studio wasn't fond of the idea and they took it to the editor's chopping block.

I don't know if this is true, but that explains why it came out so generic and by the numbers. it reeks of studio interference.

This exactly.... Hel "The Killer Shrews" is campy and just plain B.A.D., but at least its not BORING....
