I've had iPhones since the first gen. Never had a problem. Upgraded for free when a new one came out and handed them down through the family. Hell, my nephew is still using his first gen iPhone that I gave him years ago...

The more crap you put in a compact package, the less longevity you can expect from it. I've had a ZTE and after two years, the only visible wear was dust and a slightly battered casing. Get rid of all the other crap you don't need, like the silver linings around the edge of the phone, the camera, special battery-inhaling features, and you will have a phone that should last you till the day you die. I had a mate who had an amusing habit of whipping his phone at something whenever he got pissed. I told him he would breakt it one day by doing that, and it was amazing to see just how much punishment that little thing took until one day it hit the wall at just the wrong angle.

It doesn't matter how bloody far the apple falls from the tree. If the apple fell off of a Granny Smith, that apple is going to grow into a Granny bloody Smith. The only difference is whether that apple grows in the shade of the tree it fell from. |

I had the original enV from Verizon and when my 2 year contract was about a month from being up, my phone started dying... Seems like an awful big coincedence that that same month they're offering me free phones for an extended 2 year contract.
I'm sure they plan phones life to be about 2 years to fit contracts etc. And even if they don't, everyone cuts as many corners as is possible in order to save $$$. Corporations know that the populace isn't going to stop buying their phones because the inards are sub-par as long as the apps store is open and the phone LOOKS purdy.
Its difficult to find Quality now days over mass product spam.

Well contract phones don't really need to last more than two years, because in that two years you have the phone there will have been more advances and better phones that you can get as an upgrade on the same contract in the last 4/5 years (mostly on PAYG, only got my first contract phone in May this year) I think i've had 5 phones, because I have always wanted a new phone, since getting my one in May (Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc) I haven't looked at any other phones at all as I know i'll be tempted, but when it comes to the end of my current contract i'm sure i'll get another new phone...
My laptop I had a few years ago broke about 2 weeks after the warrantee ran out, that seems to happen far to often. There was a car advert on fairly recently saying you get a 7 year warrantee and I saw it and just thought 'Yeah but the car will just fall apart in 7 1/2 years'.
Things can work for a very long time if you look after them, i've had my PS3 with no problems (well maybe one now, have a sound issue but it might be my TV need to check it on another TV) since whichever model I have came out a few years ago. Phone wise, my Grandad had the same phone for about 6 years before he got another one, and that was only because he was persuaded by the shop assistant he should upgrade...
