What really ticks me off is it's like they're getting punished for showing affection.

Stuff like this "keeps happening" because faculty and school systems are facing the same issue as law enforcement at this point: society is too triggerhappy when it comes to litigation. By calling in the sheriff, the school avoids being responsible for punishment of the children and avoids any potential responsibility against them by the parents.

I've seen cases where being safe is paramount to controlling the situation, but with something like this? Come on.

It's not about being safe.

It's about being safe from lawsuits.

Oh, Florida.

It's just another Florida thing. Moving on.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

This is more serious than I'd imagined.

I'm calling the CDC. They'll send a cleanup team.

I like to think Cannerus is somewhere demonstrating proper snogging technique in front of school children somewhere.

He is not the teacher they need but rather the one they deserve… or something.

I spend some time at my local school as a volunteer. It is always striking to me how "industrialized" the learning process is.

It feels more like a labor camp to me than a place of learning, like policies are in place simply to groom kids to be obedient wage slaves in the future. It is really creepy.

You can say that, but you're not the guy who would have his boss and everyone up his chain of command ripping his ass apart because some soccer mom lost her gak because some little hussy kissed her poor innocent son and the local ambulance chaser is filing a lawsuit.

I get the same sort of vibe every time I'm at my kids schools...I feel as though I've stepped into some sort of hybrid Orwellian/Barney indoctrination center, where the primary "lesson" being taught is " how to be another faceless, unquestioning, boring cog in the wheel 101".
Now, believe me...I get that being an educator/teacher can be a very thankless job and that we now live in a " What do you mean my kid did something wrong/was a victim/heard or saw somethingI find offensive!!...I'm suing everyone!!" sort of world, thus resulting in many of these CYA policies ...and despite that, I've met a few teachers who are amazingly dedicated people who genuinely seem to care about the actual learning process.
...But, at the same time, I've sat across tables with"Stepford" administration/ teachers who regurgitate "doublespeak" as though they were tape recorders who's " educational mission" was/is to see that my kids become little tape recorders as well.

... Yeah, I remember back in high school when there were fights between students , staff broke it up, detentions/suspensions were given out...and everyone got on with life.
Now...if two kids scrap ...the police have to be involved.

I have not goten that vibe at the elementarty or Jr. High. The high school - well I've only been in the band hall and auditoriums which just felt "bandy"

Did she get to keep the handguns? I would wear them pirate or Mexican bandit style. If like a pirate, then a nice slow burning match under a hat would fashionably set them off perfectly.

I'm often saddened at my wife's school. After a parent teacher conference wherein a parent when told by my wife that she doesn't argue with children the parent replied, "well, where is someone my daughter can argue with?" like that's a service that the school is supposed to offer. I'm also shocked by the lack of critical thinking and researching skills displayed by students, let alone the students on their way to high school that can barely read. It disgusts me. Teachers are part of the problem, so is the framework they work within; I wish I knew the solution.

I would opine that Defense spending and Education spending should be equal.

I'm ok with that. UNder the enlightened Frazzled foreign policy of "dick with us and we'll radiate you, otherwise we're cool" we should have plenty of funds freed up for such. Proper funding and proper motivational techniques for all parties will insure Greater Texas er the USA will have the best educational system in the world.
