In my opinion its cuz the Bible talks about what to do with gay people (kill 'em) but not what to do with poverty (???). Oh well. Every year there's a little less discrimination against gay people. Hopefully this trend will continue until they're like equal with straight people.

I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure their were a lot of things said about how to deal with Poverty. Of course, trying to interpret the parable is where you get into the battles.

Also, most of the anti-gay stuff was added in Paul's writings, a guy who notably never met Jesus in person (Sorry, the conversion on the road to Damascus doesn't really count as ghost Jesus said about three lines to him?).

Good job making a quarter (rough estimate) of the New Testament from a guy who wasn't even there.

That's open to interpretation.

In our culture "Sodomites" refers to homosexuals, but in the original story of Sodom, it was their desire to rape angels that doomed them. Meanwhile the one who offered the angels sanctuary was left alive-- although he, too, was immoral, basically offering his daughters out to the crowd to be gang-raped instead of the angels, but I guess Christians don't like to think about that part because that would mean that they'd have to admit that one of their "heroes" did horrible horrible things.

What kind of gakbag father says "here you go guys, rape my daughters all you want!" And this is somehow supposed to be the GOOD guy.

It wasn't a story about homosexuality but rather general depravity and inhospitality towards guests.

Ezekiel 16:49-45 wrote:Now this was the sin of Sodom: [The city and its citizens] were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen.

To be fair, I think a bloke who rapes an angel he never met before is way nicer than a bloke who happily lets an angry mob skull feth his kids instead of a stranger.

If that was me, id have them raping the angels pronto while me and the girls went out the back door.

Yeah, Especially since they were probably underaged to begin with, as they were virgins and most women married young at that time.

So it's like tossing your two preteen daughters to a crowd of pedophiles. I don't know about back then, but in modern culture, that would be utterly indefensible. "God told me to!" "Well god's a dick!"

It's christmas, I don't want my mood ruined with any bible talk!

Back OT. I've typed it once, and I'm typing it again: of all the countries in the world, it always surprises me that the USA is the one that frowns upon people taking drugs or same-sex marriages. Tis a strange mentality.

According to my Bible (There are some annotations included with the passages) it says that homosexuals aren't bad because we are all God's creations, its just the act of homosexual intercourse is immoral.

But I don't know, does God really care enough if you're gay? I doubt it.

Seems to me that gay marriage/homosexuality is one of the few things left the extreme right can still use to bestow fear on their brain washed followers to get votes.

You can jack off twenty sailors in a big line, like some sort of plate spinner at a really fethed up magic show, but marry another man and live together in harmony for 60 years until you die?!

I think KilKrazy nailed it. Few people actually care that much about what the Bible says unless it supports their existing views.

As for the letter, it made me laugh.

What about plural marriage? (Polygamy) Many people get mad because others are trying to stop gay and lesbian people from marrying, yet how many that are defending gay and lesbian marriages would do the same for polygamy?

"Khorne is a noble warrior who respects strength and bravery, who takes no joy in destroying the weak, and considers the helpless unworthy of his wrath. It is said that fate will spare any brave warrior who calls upon Khorne's name and pledges his soul to the blood god. It is also said that Khorne's daemons will hunt down and destroy any warrior who betrays his honour by killing a helpless innocent or murdering in cold blood..."

I'll defend it. So long as all parties are consenting adults, I think you should be able to marry whomever and however many people you care to.

To clarify, I don't think the state should be in the marrying business, period. I think it should be solely a function of either churches if you're religious, or civil marriages if you're not, both of which are legally equivalent in all respects and produce identical marriage certificates. I simply don't consider quantifying what is or is not a valid legally binding personal relationship between to consenting adults to be a government role.

It's part of a general rant against a Dionysian cult that was a local political rival of the author, whether that's whoever it's ascribed to or not. I don't think it shows up as anything more than the contemporary equivalent of jaywalking, though, usually as one of a screed of things the author didn't like about someone, wherein the chief sin is always idolatry or something.
