I'm beginning to get a feeling that I've taken water over my head with this project. What do you guys think?
And isn't there anyone before me who has done this? It would probably help a lot to see a model to try and copy, but... Well, idk.

Finer snow that snow you are using looks like hair. I personally like skin but I would reduce red-ish colors.

EDIT: If you want to add red-ish colors maybe a controlled thin wash of purple and red would work.

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.

If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in.

Hmm yeah, I agree, looks like the snow effect is very coarse. That stuff would work great for bases, but is too much for on the guys themselves.

There is a household product, baking soda or baking powder, can't remember which, that is very good for snow effects. Forgive me I don't remember the more universal names, but I believe one is sodium bicarbonate.... you would just mix it with white glue. IIRC it turns brown with age, though.

I'm painting some zombies now, so I can try some washes to try to get a cooler effect.

I've painted some tech servitors using Shadow Grey as base coat for flesh, then blending up using Elf flesh. Gives a very cool, dead, look, but unfortunately all those guys are packed away.

Edit - I did a quick look at a model railroad forum, and they mention using marble powder for snow, evidently a product available in model railroad shops. the same person said that GW employees use sugar substitute mixed with PVA glue (I've never heard of this before, though)

The show could work, but I think it's on a little heavy. Try just a dusting, not even a complete layer, ya know?

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?

The first thing I thought of when I heard this was people complaining that when they used a Spray varnish in wet conditions it 'frosted' the model. You might want to try steaming up the bathroom, then quickly hitting one with a gloss varnish spray and seeing what happens.

Do be careful not to get you a contact high...

This. I like the snow effects though.

The USS Orinoco was a Federation Danube-class runabout that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century, attached to Deep Space 9. It was outfitted with a sensor pod.

Where the sun crosses the field of blood.

Hello everyone!
So, once again, I tried to improve the colour scheme today. Someone pointed out that the skin might be too blue, so I tried having it basecoated with Elf Flesh, then experimented a little with just washing the Elf Flesh with Asurmen blue, or putting on a very thinned coat (almost wash-thin) of Space Wolf Grey before the Asurmen Blue.
I also tried to sprinkle the snow effect onto the models, as another suggester suggested.
The results:

So, there's a little detail work to do on them, but the skin hue is what's important here. I think it's an improvement from before actually.
What say you? Better? Worse?

I think you gone into a very nice way with your first attemp, the only problem i see are your colors: they are to vivid. Try to plae them up, with dry brush of white or wash of very diluted white, before the snow.

That will make they look a lot more "frozen"...

Those las ones (that only see now) are very good...

You're making excellent progress. Those most recent pictures are showing some good lookin' chilli-undead. They definitely look like something I would avoid in winter (or summer, or anytime, for that matter...).

I agree. Try a slight wash on the area that's getting the frost, to help lighten up the frosted over sections. Gently tho, keeping it subtle.

Keep rockin' it .

Side Note: I can visualize and contemplate all these things, but I'll be damned if I could ever actually do it myself on a project of my own... I commend you for your skills..

Hey man, i think you got a lot o progress in the skin tone. But looking with more attention to those pics i see now that you need a better contrast, try to add some color to theyr ragged clothes (some normal, cold color). Keep the work, they are coming great
