Got the original metal Balrog for £19 it came without wings or a base, but a quick order on GW solved that, really happy. I also got Treebeard for £18 the same week completely untouched and complete. Other than that I'm always too much of a wimp with my max bids and have lost count of the times I've been outbid by 1-50p. Thanks eBay. TheBay.

I don't bother with sniping programs. I see an item I want and I determine how much I'll pay for it, shipped. I then place a bid for the total mount, sans shipping costs.

By sniping you can keep your prices lower. If you enter your max bid you may get 5 more bids on top trying to determine your top price. If you never enter that bid to begin with, then there's not a top bid to go against. The snipe program will still do all of that. It just waits until the end of the auction.

The big difference may be that I usually only bid on large lots. The less bids that lot gets, the better chance you have of saving a lot of money. The last thing you want, is to put in your top bid with 5 days to go. You can end up starting a bidding war that way. People will start bidding it up to see what your max bid is. People like leading the auction. I guess it's just human tendencies.

I use a snipe program because it's convenient, and it saves me money. But to each his own. As someone who sells a lot on ebay, I like bidders who enter their top bid days away from auction end.

It was $200. Fortunately there was another auction that had about the same amount of thousand sons, 14x terminators, 1x daemon prince, and 4x rhinos that was ending an hour after the one I bid on. So no one was paying attention or interested in the auction that I bid on.

I've not really got an awesome Ebay story of my own. But when I first got into the hobby one of my friends got really excited because he had found 10 leman russes for £20 (this isn't awesome, but appeared to be to my friend). So great was his excitement that he had not read the information page properly. He won the auction but much to his dissapointment, when they arrived they were epic Leman Russes.

It is not just you that buys them, and you are correct, you can get some screaming deals on the Dredd minis, seems like no one is interested. I grabbed a dozen JD models, including the bike for about 8 GBP, after shipping cost me something in the range of 15 CAD.

Absolute best score was a pair of original dome-turret Predators, for 26 bucks, shipping included.

That's the same reason my buddies use it. Me, though? I'm not so worried about it. I don't really bid on anything so large that the difference between my best price and opening price are so different that it makes much difference. Anything large, and I'm only looking @ BiN's, anyway.

I picked up most of my original Sisters of Battle because of a great ebay deal...

Case + vehicles + tons of pewter mines + shipping... about 1500-2000pts of Sisters (during the Witch Hunter era) for $150 total...

I've seen a similar deal actually sell for around 500 recently...

Hmm, I got a bunch of BNIB trolls for 40% (the metal, normal trolls).

Picked up a brand new Dwarf Lord (with pistol) for ~58% off.

I snagged Grombrindal, the White Dwarf (the 2009 WD subscription model) for ~$13. (this one was used though, I had to strip primer off him). He was listed as OOP Dwarf lord/hero.

** Those are the most recent ones at least.

Some of the older ones include:
Getting the SM half of AoBR for ~$17
Getting the WD Sub model Night Goblin boss for like ~$6
Getting Skarsnik & Gobbla (the current one) for like $20.
Snagging Gideon Lorr (the LE Inquisitor) for ~$23.

Basically, buying stuff on Ebay - I go for 25% off as the baseline for new stuff (since that's about what you can get it elsewhere) and work from there. I have a little sticky pad that keeps the % off MSRP I won stuff at my desk - it ranges from 27% - 58%. I have a 15% on there, but that was for the Dwarf Hewer - which you can only get from GW anymore. So I still considered that a win. It's just a matter of checking often, in multiple ways (since people mis-list stuff all the time) and being patient. A lot of these things took months of checking for me to get a bargain on.

I'm actually getting a little sad, as I only have a handful of minis on my "list" to still track down.

Minnesota, land of 10,000 Lakes and 10,000,000,000 Mosquitos

Got a few of them. Most recent one was a boat-load of Orks:

. 5 Nobz on the sprue
. 11 Boyz on the sprue
. 30 Boyz, some partly-assembled, some primed, some fully-painted
. 6 Heavy Weapons Boyz with Rocket Launchers, Flamethrowers, and other weapons.
. 10 Nobz, some partly-assembled, some primed, some fully-painted, one converted into Dok
. 2 Warbosses, their right arms not glued on so that weapons options can be alternated
. 3 Deffkoptas, two constructed and primed, one still on the sprue
. More than enough bases of different sizes to use on the sprue models once off the sprue
. Assorted Gretchen and Squigs
. Several bitz bags included heads for Boyz and Nobz, Nobz kit weapons, Boyz weapons, arms, and other bitz.

Mostly from AoBR, to be fair, but there was a fair amount just from kits. I wound up paying $70 for it, retail (assuming normal kit prices, not AoBR) at somewhere around $250.

Another one that I recently picked out was several sets of Wolf Terminators (10 in total) that I bought for $80, shipping included. All told, I think I paid about $70 for the Terminators plus shipping from the UK.

Not that exciting, saving like 20 bucks on Terminators, but I don't use ebay that much.

I have 2 cool stories (bro) about this.

Recently, someone on Dakka (probably WarOne) posted a link to a store closeout. My nephew has been dying to get into 40k with IG, but I was put off by the price. I obviously am aware that 40K is expensive, but he has no interest in troops at all and wants to do tanks only, and there is no way to do that for IG without a minimum of 11 dudes on foot that I am aware of. So, the way I saw it, I'd need at least 2x boxes of Cadians (Vets) and a Commisar (HQ) just to be able to put them on a table, which is like what, $85ish? Not an unreasonable price per se but kind of spendy for dudes he doesn't particular want and I certainly don't want to paint, I have my own models to not get painted up. Anyway, the closeout had these boxes of Cadians that been discontinued - 20 cadians per box, buy-it-now for $35, free shipping. I wound up with 3 of those boxes, plus a metal lord commisar for $7.50 and a Command HQ Squad for $15 - all in, $95 bucks for 40 guardsmen, a command squad, and a commisar. Not bad eh?

A more lulzy one was a couple of years ago. I really wanted a land raider, and some dude was selling 3 of them. More to the point, the prices were cheap as hell - the bids were only like $30 each and there were only a few hours left, and it was the middle of the night. I wound up putting in a max bid of $30 on a LRC and 2 LR's, figuring I'd have to win one of the three, right?

Sure enough, that morning... I had won all 3. I totally did not have a spare 90 bucks to spend on plastic army dudes so I had to have my wife slip me $60 till payday with 4 shades of regret and shame (remember, I only intended to spend $30!). Luckily, it's now 2012, and Captain Hindsight is giving me a high-five for scoring 3 boxed land raiders for $90 shipped now that they are like $70 each.

In a surprise to no one, by the way, not one of those land raiders is yet painted or even primed.
