Wow, I feel pretty lucky. The FLGS I play and order my stuff have been assured by GW that they'll be arriving tomorrow. They ordered several collectors and gamers, only 1 collectors edition was stiffed but were giving 6 extra gamer's to make up for it.
Ofcourse, we'll see on Saturday just how accurate this is, but if their rep was right then I consider myself and the others that ordered via my FLGS very very lucky.

Either way you look at this, it's a botched operation by GW. Either they didn't accurately forecast demand, which I'm pretty sure anyone with half a brain couldve done on something like this, and so screwed flgs everywhere by changing the pre-order terms on Sunday or whenever; or they didn't let the stores know that the other editions were direct only, which is their responsibility as the provider. They gave the stores the sku codes and didnt tell them anything about limiting any of the skus. Either way, piss poor business by GW. Seems to be mainly isolated in the U.S. also, although that may be an inaccurate observation.

Or they created a limited edition item and stores set their customers expectations incorrectly.

If you're a business owner and GW tells you that 'here are the product codes for the 6th edition 40k rule books and you can now start taking pre-orders' and they give you no other information besides that, it is in no way your fault when you, as a business owner, start taking pre-orders on all the product codes they have given you. If its a limited item, then you cap the total number of preorders per store on that item. If it is direct only, than you don't give a store direct only product codes that they can't get and tell them to take orders on them. Either way, this is on GW, NOT the stores. They weren't misleading people or misrepresenting product. The simple fact is, most gamers have no loyalty to any store, and will stop buying at a store (but not stop playing, oddly enough) over the slightest provocation. It would make no sense for a store to intentionally mislead a knowingly fickle crowd, and I promise you that that is not what happened.
Edit: oh, and I don't care either way. I've dropped GW from my hobby life and will not be picking up the 6th edition book.

Except for the ones that were specifically listed as 'direct only'. I saw the preorder lists when they were leaked pre-launch, they said 'direct only'. This was confirmed by two store owners I know, one local and one online. Automatically Appended Next Post: Chances are most stores thought that they could get around the direct only since they are allowed to order direct only as if they are a normal customer for a lesser rate. Either way, we are playing with hearsay since none of us is a FLGS owner or GW.

Maybe it has something to do with the GW rep that represents those stores. I know the email I saw that had the product codes on it didn't mention direct only, but then it hardly looked official at all. I don't know. I just try and assign blame to the stores last of all.
Unless your store owner is a jerk. Screw that guy!!

lol Yeah, there's definitely a difference between store guys. If you want a real answer talk to someone like Mikhaila or Reecius, they are known and respected forum members who happen to own stores, so have first hand experience.

This is what happened in my stores case. I am pretty close with my flgs owner. They were 100% blindsided. All you guys saying your quiting 40k because of how gw treats them are just hurting the flgs even more because they are losing your business too. Just wait it out fellas play the game - don't buy from gw - buy from your Indy store or eBay... Let gw go bankrupt and someone with a brain in proper business antics buys them out.

Yeah... If GW goes bankrupt, you're probably going to have some issues picking up a game.

Usually the company sells out and new ownership takes over. It would not be hard to find a game because people would already have their army etc and all the stuff on eBay to supplement models. If people like the game people will play it whether it is discontinued, bought out, or gw continues to keep doing what they are doing....if not then there are dozens of other table top games the hordes will flock to and a new emperor will arise.

Yeah, at this point 40k will not die if GW went under, nor would Fantesy.
The rules would simply never get updated in the future and FAQs would only be avaliable from 3rd parties like the INAT.
One thing it would do is encourage 3rd party model suppliers to ramp up production and advertising, since there would be no point is disallowing non-GW miniatures anymore.

My FLGS is being pretty cagey on this. If I was baited (for Gamers) and then switched (to Standard), I won't be happy. Granted, the manager passed along caveats from his distributor rep on availability, and didn't collect money in advance, but still... the store doing something within the letter of the law but breaking good faith would not leave me a happy customer.
@pretre: Can you detail what this deal is, and who is making it (i.e., is the store making the deal, the distributor, or GW itself)?

My FLGS confirmed yesterday that they were only getting 6 of the 10 or so Gamers Edition they ordered, and 1 Collectors edition. Additionally, they will not be in until Tuesday or Wednesday.

Well, it seems my FLGS was provided with zero copies of the Gamers Edition. They've offered me an additional 10% rebate (on top of the 20% they're offering on the book, an additional 10% above their regular rebate program). Sigh.

While my FLGS is getting the collectors and gamers they ordered, they just discovered that GW didn't ship until the 28th. Their delivery estimate is the 3rd. One of the reasons I like buying via indepentent retailers, they're letting those that are getting gamer's editions to take a copy of the rulebook home on Saturday and then when we get our gamer's edition we just give them the rulebook from it. Sadly, such an offer can't work for the people getting a collector's edition.

My FLGS said that they couldn't pre order them, but that they were only back ordered, that the FLGS would still get them in EVENTUALY. They said their supplier had no idea of a time frame though, that it will probably be a while but the owner seemed sure that he would eventually get it in. This is at a store near Macomb and Clinton township in Michigan.
What do you guys think of this? Im thinking the copies are out and that theres no way they will be getting the games edition in for me to get (even though I pre-ordered through them)
