I did not say the game would be no good and I have no doubt the finished product will be well produced with good miniatures, but I am disappointed in their choice, as I was hoping for something original.

I'm just curious: what would have been an "original" choice for a futuristic sports game? I mean, I can think of a number of sporting games that would be available, but none that would really appeal to gamers. I certainly don't see baseball or cricket jumping up. I suppose roller derby might work, but I don't find the game that fascinating in real life. Dreadball is most definitely *not* based on football. (Hockey/basketball is the most common reference, also handball, and maybe touches of lacrosse.)

I can tell you from having a copy of the rules though, that it is a very, very different beast from Blood Bowl.

I think definitely worthwhile reading this article from the game's designer, and interesting reading for everyone actually!

If you're interested in female players for Dreadball, the first concepts have been posted. Weigh in with your opinions.

In answer to Llew and Pacific, my first comments were made shortly after the announcemnet was made and yes I was less than impressed. Seemed that Mantic were following in the worn path of rebooting GW (KoW, Warpath and then Space Hu...sorry Project Pandora)

However....

I have followed the news, been impressed by the minis etc and Jake T's blog. Enough to like what I am seeing and enough to buy into the KS at Striker level anyway.

As for a future sport I used to like an old FASA game GravBall a sort of pseudo 3d basketball, played with figures on tall stands. Multi level playing areas anyone.....

I loved GravBall* too, although it has been a billion years since I played it. I was gonna use that one as a rebuttal.

The fact is that the really new parts of gaming are in the expression of the idea, not just the genre anymore. Mantic has one strong suit, generally, and that is they design games that are faster to play than the competition.

*(Though I lost my copy ages ago, my friend still has a copy of Grav Ball. I may have to trick him into bringing that one out again.)

I still have a copy and this prompted me top go to BGG to download the revised rules - might be on the table at the weekend for a trip down memory lane.

What I always wanted was someone to come up with a tabletop version of Rollerball (the original film not the recent remake).

Just read the latest updates on the KS and blogs and this is really starting to look like something special, if they can pull it off.

The concepts for the second season - new teams notwithstanding - putting the game on the "streets" rather than a set pitch really starts to break the mold and conjures up some sweet ideas about modelling opportunities.

Best get a bigger plate for that bigger slice of humble pie I will be eating.

Got impatient waiting for my Dreadball KS stuff to arrive so I made a Corporation keeper from a spare Enforcer and some Necron bits.

Note to self: buy some silver spray paint for when the actual team arrives.

I'm from the future. The future of space

Looks great. I'm not that familiar with the necron bits, what arm piece is that?

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

It's a void blade with the blades trimmed off and the focus ring from a tesla carbine added just to make the ball launcher end a bit less 2D.

So has anyone got their copy yet, and/or news of when it is going to hit the shelves?

Are there going to be any other players/teams being released alongside the main box set?

Sadly missed the kickstarter but am looking forward to getting my greasy paws on this upon release if possible!

I've got a Trontek29ers team coming ( a mate was in on the kickstarter - I just wanted a single team and wasn't interested in any extras just yet).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.
