The necron one seems to be. Per GW:
Codex: Necrons
Codex: Necrons is your guide to the armies of the Necrons. This volume details the terrible history and advanced wargear of the Necrons, and provides full rules for fielding an army of these deathless robotic warriors in games of Warhammer 40,000. This expanded Codex includes interactive miniatures galleries, lavish colour artwork, and updated rules to match the latest edition of Warhammer 40,000.
GW! what a way to rub salt in the wounds! They want us to pay twice now for each codex.
For shame! we pay for the paperback codex when the new range launches, then again a few months later for a new upto date codex with extras...
We should only have to pay once and get both.
I made my point on the games workshop facebook page, quite a few others are making noise too, we can only hope once enough people complain that they listen.
I let them know that I won't buy at this price, especially having already bought the book once already!
Panic...
I know right! And digital copies should be dirt cheap!
Its like them trying to charge me for the kindle version of that hardback I already paid for!!!!
I mean, there is NO precedent for that in electronic publishing!
(note; this post contains sarcasm, and irony in pointing out logical fallacies and a complete disconnection to the real world).

I went to Barnes & Noble the other day to get a book I really enjoyed on my Nook. The employees stopped me at the door and wanted me to pay for it. I told them "I already paid for a digital copy, it should come with a physical copy for free!" Those bastards threw me out!

d-usa wrote:Has GW ever send you a new printed codex anytime there was a FAQ? Nothing has changed there.
GW didn't ever to my knowledge introduce a printed codex for the first time just a month or two prior to the release of an edition that would change significant portions of that one or two month old product. The electronic version was released likely at the same time or after the new edition was sent to the printer. Also, it's alot easier to update an electronic product on the consumer end than a printed one. The two situations are not really comparable.
While no offer of free updates was technically included with the electronic codex, I do hope that GW doesn't squander some of the goodwill they garnered by releasing it in the first place.

They are two different products, and you can buy either. Nobody is forcing you to buy both, although that is the argument people are making.

I'm actually more concerned about the other rules that aren't available elsewhere. At least the FAQs can be accessed from any web-capable PC, which I've seen at every game store I've been to, or at your local library. They're very accessible.
Rules for the Ork Bomma? Not so much. (And if I'm wrong on that, PLEASE let me know. I've been very out of touch for the past three months).

You do realise updates are avalable for free right? In the FAQ's?
Also, a little fact I found out, Apple and android have about the same number of users, but the app store has 6 times the sales of the google store (yes, I know its not the only place to buy android apps, but most people do only use it). This and the much lower levels of piracy on apple could just be why they are releasing on apple first. It's not like the e version is the only version, but the android market is tiny.
It being the only place for the ork flyer rules is a little annoying, but ill give it a few weeks to see if they go up online befor getting angry that I can't get to them.

Gothic data-slate. They could probably get away with a re-skinned iPad with some funky gothic engravings. Costs twice as much of course.

yeah, People paid for the WD to get the Ork bomber rules and have them valid for only 2months before they were out of date and needed FAQ'd. And then release a 6th editin copy of the bomber rules and ask for yet another £3! £3 for 14 pages mostly taken from white dwarf and the website!? Why not have these rules included in the box or as a PDF on the website. It's pure greed. Panic...

In australia the Digital Necron codex is $36. The book from GW is $55. Im pretty happy to be saving $19 and getting a copy that seems to get updated and is more portable. Im sorry you guys in the rest of the world aren't happy with the price (which I understand). But GW have been giving us Aussies a hard time for a while now...

Thanks for the update GW but odd how they haven't mentioned that it's been updated on their site.
Necrox codex is really nicely done with all the photos of the new models including Orikan and Anrakyr who aren't out yet.
Agree with everyone else on the other nonsense they're releasing like the Ork Bommer and tactics, what is White Dwarf for if not for tactics and chapter approved, oh no sorry it's all advertising which is why I haven't bought one in ages!

Well, GW is full of surprises. I am usually quite critical of them, however this is a good development and they deserve praise.
If they released the codex in a format that most people can use on their computers/phones then they would sell more of them.

GW is actually supporting their product proactively and intuitively...it's getting very difficult to deny buying an iPad now. the price kin depends on if it is "one time" or not.
If i fork out the money for the Necron "digi-dex", will it be auto-updated when new Erratas and FAQs come out? If a new unit comes out in WD or FW for example will my snazzy digi-dex get a OTA update with the new rules?
If not then what does it deliver that a normal 'dex and a rulebook doesn't?

It delivers a digital codex that you can read on your iPad? People would buy it for the same reason they buy any ebook. Because they like that format better. What benefit does any ebook have over a physical book?

Confirmed that the space marine dex has the latest FAQs rolled into it. Nice.
I'll end up buying all of the iPad codexes as they are released.
Yes, I already own physical copies; however, the in page links to rules descriptions on wargear is vastly better than constantly page flipping.
One thing I would like to see ( and I have no idea if this is even possible ) would be for the entries that say " see 40k rule book page xxx" to be replaced with an actual link to the digital rule book when it's available. That would rock.
Regardless, I'm happy. Incidentally this was the only reason I even bought an iPad.
