As mentioned, the only time you're going to want to take a power axe is when you want a power fist, but can't take one because of codex restrictions. The tiny gain you get from +1A against T4 isn't as good as the MC and vehicle killing power, and ability to cause ID of the fist.
... which means that the axe really isn't the fist, which makes me seriously question why bother?
For S3 models, it actually makes sense to take a mace, as the +2S means you're practically bringing a powerfist, as far as your S is concerned, making it just as good or better than the axe in most circumstances (especially since you're striking BEFORE I1). For marines, I think I'd still just keep the sword. They have the I and the S to still make good use of it.

I ll tell you why some1 would buy a couple power axes.. apart from not having other choice such as IG and apart from reality.
Chaos termies P.axes are Beautiful man!!!!
But apart from the fun of it p.axe is better IMO than PF against MEQ.
Period!

Looking on GW for fantasy maces gives metal dwarfs. Had a look at dwarf and empire troops to see if there was anything there but not that I could find.
